The idea of either of these people becoming president of the United States would make me want to find another planet to live on. From the Independent:
The number of potential Republican candidates for the White House continues to grow and grow with billionaire Donald Trump being the latest to say he may throw his hat into the ring.
Mr Trump, 68, who said he may make a run for the presidency only to decide against it both in 2008 and 2012, said over the weekend he was “seriously thinking” about a campaign. He claimed he was the only person who could run the country.
“I’m the one person who can make this country great again, that’s all I know,” he told reporters after a speech on Saturday in Iowa, whose primary caucuses kick off the formal presidential election next January. “Nobody else can.”

“It can’t be Mitt, because Mitt ran and failed. Mitt had his chance. He should have won and he choked. You don’t want to give a choker a second chance,” he said, according to CNN. “You can’t have Bush. The last thing we need is another Bush.”

“If I run for president, and if I win, I would totally succeed in creating jobs, defeating ISIS, and stopping the Islamic terrorists, reducing the budget deficit, securing our southern border, stopping nuclear weapons in Iran and elsewhere,” he said.
But wait there is more:
Mr Trump’s comments came after another conservative favourite, Sarah Palin, suggested she may also be open to running for the presidency.
The former governor of Alaska, and running mate of John McCain in an unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign, said: “When you have a servant’s heart, when you know that there is opportunity to do all you can to put yourself forward in the name of offering service, anybody would be interested.”
Palin is back to her mumbling stuttering foot in mouth best. She recently was photographed holding a sign saying “fuc_ Michael Moore”. The photo will attract attention because both “o”s were made to look like cross hairs. It seems that Palin has not learned.
Other potential candidates apart from Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush include Rick Perry, Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum whose infamy includes being the subject of one of the most infamous google bombs of all time.
In celebration of Palin’s awfulness I thought I would end this post with the Awful Truth episode where Michael Moore tried to decide on which presidential candidate he should support in 2000 by seeing who was prepared to get into a travelling mosh pit that he had organised. Video is below. Enjoy.

Given that their Republic was originally founded excluding women and Blacks from voting, structured with an appointed Senate, an Electoral College and multiple other devices to prevent popular power in favour of a ruling elite, they were never a true democracy to begin with.
The American system was state of the art… for 230 years ago, when the nearest the rest of the world had to a democracy was Westminster (rotten boroughs and all) and much of the rest of the world still ran on the divine right of kings. Neither will run.
They like being in the news. They can slag everyone else’s actions and not have to do deiver anything themselves. They have ther feet up while others slog.
Palin may run, if only to raise cash through her PAC for her retirement.
well after reading that im going to have a hot caustic shower followed by a good foot soak in battery acid and bang my head on a nail studded wall until wots left of my hair drys…..all this much more favourable than those two in charge of a dying superpower

The problem the Republicans have is that to win the primary you have to appeal to a very narrow demographic of morons, reactionaries, fundamentalists and conspiracy theorists, who despite claims to the country on this blog, only make up a very small portion of the US.
The person who wins the primary is then generally un-electable in the presidential election.
In my opinion, the exception to the rule in recent years was McCain who got past the crazies primarily on his veteran background, that his main rival was Romney and Hickabee/Ron Paul split the crazies vote.
And I don’t think Warren will run – this time at least – the Democrat money obviously sees Clinton as the best chance this time round. I imagine they would then position Elizabeth Warren as something like Secretary of State to give her some international chops, or Secretary if Commerce to see if a reform push works – setting her up for a run in 2020 or 2024 depending on Hilary’s success.
But at the the end of the day the parties in the US should be renamed as:
Republicans > Reactionaries
Democrats > Conservatives
Warren is never going to be able to fundraise from the banks and the corporates so she is out from the start.
