Sorry, Vanilla Eis is right. We all got a 20 minute telling-off by our Politics lecturer about making the same mistake. “There has never been a 5th Labour Government, nor is there a 5th National Government, only a Labour-led coalition government and a National-led coalition government” and on and on it went.

I realise what you’re trying to get at here but the fact is Labour were the Government, they just didn’t have a Parliamentary majority so had to rely on coalition and support partners.

There was no 5th Labour Government. There were three coalitions where Labour was the biggest member and provided the Prime Minister, but nothing that remotely resembled the 4th Labour Government etc. I wish people would at least figure out the difference, it’s not a tough one to make.

I find it interesting then, that Goff is planning on winning a straight majority, losing an election, and then winning a straight majority again. At least the man has ambition, I guess.

The London Bar.. cool, haven’t been there in 10 years or so. Is the Scottish bar still downstairs? I wish I could be there but I’m an ex-JAFA now exiled to Canterbury – - the worst of both worlds, some people say! (Wellingtonians usually)

I think all types are welcome to attend these things, but you need to understand that you’re at an event organised by and for lefties. No one’s going to stop you attending but you need to respect the purpose of the meeting.
