   Who was it who said something like
   “Sport isn’t life or death. It’s much more important than that.”?
   Actually I think it might have been about football but the principle applies.

   Why isn’t Bracewell man of the match? Will Shearer bring back 3 or 4 test series with Australia and institute a summer protection law to ensure that winter sports can only be played in winter not bloody February in Perth!!!!!!!!!!!!!

       Now they just got to keep it up for the one dayers and 20/20’s. But what about Martin?? every one seems to forget him because of Bracewells 5 But look at the stats. at 37 Years old he (Martin) bowled 16 overs in each innings (most in 1st innings) and he got 3 in the first innings and one in the second. Yes Bracewell is the man of that moment but please don’t forget the old man of NZ cricket.

         Personally I couldnt give a fuck about the ODI’s and 20/20’s. Sure its good to win them, but IMO tests are more important. They are the pinnacle. We should be focusing on winning tests, and worrying about the limited overs stuff later.

   Ah, yes. Internationalised, corporatised sport is extremely important. It is the modern ‘soma’ of the masses, provided by the system to keep the proles dumbed down, compliant and patriotic.

   The Roman emperors worked it out long ago: bread and circuses as the empire collapses.

   It follows, of course, that anyone who can see through the scam and wants to keep their brain uncontaminated tunes out.

   Keep worshiping the false gods Ben. The corporations will love you for it.

   By the way Ben, do you think that war is ‘glorious’? Do you like to see planes (or more often missiles and drones these days) ‘destroy’ houses, hospitals and people? Or do you only use such words in the wrong context?

         Sport is something you do not something you watch. Otherwise it provides no benefit whatsoever (except to the corporations that profit from it).

         It’s the same with music, dance, playing cards …. practically everything in life.

         Of course, many people like to be spectators of life, rather than actually living it.

         Try reading ‘Brave New World’ (Aldous Huxley) some time.

           Twit – I played cricket until I was 40 and found I could no longer catch the catches I used to catch, my knees were shot from 20 odd years of opening the bowling, and cataracts meant that I could no longer use my limited eyesight to bat.

           So I should carry on playing cricket with a little bell in the ball or maybe take up some boring shit like golf – not that I can see the ball once I’ve hit it, or squash which has an even smaller ball……..

           I love cricket and more importantly I love (test) cricket crowds. That is far more a social community than any other game that I have experienced. I made good friends of strangers at many games.

           And what is sport with no-one to watch but a self-indulgent look at me idiocy.

           According to your rule you can’t enjoy music unless you play it, you can’t enjoy movies unless you’re in it, you can’t enjoy speeches unless you make them yourself (yay for powerpoint), you can’t enjoy the smell of food unless you cook or eat it, you can’t fly way up in the air unless you sniff aviation fuel and get high, …..

           Anyway what is that you enjoy doing?

           Should I feel insulted? I like to watch sport – useless at playing it, but.

           I do, however admire skill and talent. I’m not sure that many who know me would call me a spectator of life – just a spectator of sport and music (Can’t play music either). Oh and I read a lot – does that make me a spectator on writing?

           Awesome win for the Black Caps I’d love to have seen it!

    Both sides snatching defeat from the jaws of victory so regularly in one game…fascinating. In the end it came down to dogged grit, and like the ABs we just hung in there against an equally dogged foe. Well done black Caps.

    I rate this higher than the ABs winning the trotie. a; it took longer between wins and b; no one expected us to win.

    That and tests are the best sport ever: 5 days to drink, rain and bad light calls off play and at the end a draw is a pretty common result (insert right wing jib about unions).

    Brilliant. I just wish there was a world cup of tests. We could get a champion before I’m a granddad.

    First test victory against Australia since 1993, and first in Australia since 1985.

    The Black Caps needed this result, and cricket in this country is general, I was kinda getting really sick of us only beating Pakistan, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in tests over the past umpteen years. (I couldnt give a flying fuck about the ODI bullshit.)

    Admittedly though, got a little bit disheartened with out batting efforts…

    We have to find out away to stop Bracewell from breaking down like our other decent fast bowlers. it seems that every time we have a decent paceman, his career is marked by long periods on the physio table.

    After watching highlights on the Boxing day test we drew 1987. This should have been our 4th!!!!
    How Whitney was not given out to Morrison still grates me after all this time.
    Nice to see the boys stand up after last week. Never give up !!

    Went to watch at the Backbencher when Australia needed 39 and NZ needed 1 final wicket. Was agonisingly tense, especially when Southee’s plumb looking LBW was overturned by the review system. The place erupted when Bracewell cleaned out Lyon, jubiliation and relief to finally beat the Aussies again in a test.

    Agree with Milsy too, test matches are far more rewarding and meainingful than the T20, or ODI fluff. Hopefully we’ll get a proper 3 test series with Australia next time.
