More lameness from the man with no ideas; wave goodbye to Aroha

In a desperate attempt to distract voters’ attention from his dire campaign problems, John Key has announced today that if Winston is re-elected (in which case me might well hold the balance of power), New Zealand will be forced to go back to the polls within weeks. Presumably until there’s a result that pleases His Lordship.

As Winston Peters has refused to offer anything more to prospective ruling parties than to vote issue by issue, Mr Key believes that “every budget, on every issue, there could be a general election. How can New Zealand govern itself over the next three years – which is likely to be a volatile period in the world economy – when at any stage the whole government can be brought down by Winston Peters“.

What a tired and out of ideas lame-arse Key is really proving himself to be. This from the man who says he want to talk about policy and the issues that matter to voters.

Meanwhile elsewhere on the limping catastrophe that is the John Key Campaign, Aroha Ireland, the girl Key paraded around Waitangi to make it look as if he gave a shit about the underpriveledged, has decided to leave New Zealand and join the record numbers of kiwis leaving permanently for a Brighter Future in Australia. With clearly more insight than the man who once pretended to care about her, Aroha said “I don’t see us catching up, we are going backwards while they are getting way ahead. There’s not many opportunities here.”

National desperation, Key a haunted man.

    • yep, just reeks of it CV

      • Jim Nald 1.1.1

Key will, as he gets more worried and desperate, get more shrill about Winston.

Or will he be relaxed and comfortable with seeing Winston poll increasingly higher?

        • Georgecom 1.1.1.1

Given how relaxed Mr Key has been about almost everything else in the past 3 years I cannot see how he would be anything but ‘relaxed about Peters returning to Parliament’.

I mean, if nothing else got his pulse rate rising why would the election of a political rival?

Unless it threatened his self interests and being relected as PM?

          Hmmm.

  2. Uturn 2

Key is just like all the things he imagines beneficiaries are: lazy, surly, work-dodging, blaming, anti- social, whining, not worth the money.

Don’t vote NZ first, vote john Key: It’ll be cheaper, except for Key’s pay rises, his job won’t require any skill and if it all goes wrong it’s your fault.

Gee, since you put it like that, John…

      @ uturn

“Key is just like all the things he imagines beneficiaries are: lazy, surly, work-dodging, blaming, anti- social, whining, not worth the money.”

This certainly seems to be the case judging by Key’s empty rhetoric, behaviour and disappearances over the last three years. Even one of his coalition ministers, Rodney Hide, said he was lazy.
I ‘ve often felt I am adrift in the Pacific Ocean on board a large ship with no one at the helm. Key said he was the “skipper” of national – well, I wish he was better at being the skipper rather than the ‘scupper’ of our country. No wonder Aroha has gone to Oz.
I hope she does well, no chance of that here at the moment.

  3. Dv 3

Yep lets keep having elections until the Nats front up!

    • mik e 3.1

The only way we can stop kiwis leaving our shores if national get in again is to put the price of airfares up by at least 3 times.100,000 in one term of National it will be 300,000 next term if National Wins!

  4. Roy 4

    Shameless bullying from Key.

  5. tsmithfield 5

“Meanwhile elsewhere on the limping catastrophe that is the John Key Campaign,…”

ROFLMAO!!! I bet you wish this was the case, The Sprout. You obviously don’t keep track of the polls, though.

Like this poll that is so embarrassing for the HoS that they have tried to bury it in a hate-piece against Key.

55.6% support for National. If that’s limping, the left had better hope they don’t start sprinting!!

    • Scott 5.1

What if the polls are a lie like everything else that has to do with National?

      • tsmithfield 5.1.1

That’s all right Scott. I know reality can be hard to deal with sometimes.

        • Scott 5.1.1.1

Reality is entirely subjective when dealing in politics.
Totally dishonest when it comes to the right.

        • Policy Parrot 5.1.1.2

I liked Bomber’s line of the NZ electorate and its potential to vote for sadomasochism (i.e. its just another form of being fucked!)

    • Galeandra 5.2

‘they have tried to bury it in a hate-piece against Key’

Ts has a beam in his eye as usual.

    • Key’s polling has been despite his campaigning, not because of it.
His campaign is an utter train wreck.

    • willie maley 5.4

ts if the polls are an accurate reflection, then why is Key panicking? Cause at 55.6% support he has nowt to worry about.

    • Crashcart 5.5

A hate piece? Did you actually read it. Considering HoS chose not to print and still got compared to NotW by a paniking PM I thought that article was incredibly friendly.

  6. anne 6

It shows now that key and his co-horts are running scared that they will not have their grubby
hands on tax payers money and will not be able to bring in such punitive measures that will
bring average kiwi’s to their knees,(he will smile while doing it though)
There is not one thing that they have done that can be seen as beneficial for nz,the only benefit
is for their prefered part of the population.
Time for nz to get rid of key and co-horts or face the consequences.

  7. Fred 7

Let’s consider the worst .. Key wins. What sort of prime ministership is it going to be ?

If he sets the police onto the media over a trivial tea party, what else is he capable of ?

    His karma is not good.

  8. Lanthanide 8

It is somewhat of a valid concern, although I believe the Greens in 2002 ended up abstaining from all confidence and supply, under arrangement with Labour.

I guess it’s a little different in this case, if Winston doesn’t agree specifically agree to abstain, he just does it while it suits him and could topple the government whenever he saw fit. But if he were the king-maker and did abstain, he could easily change his vote and swap governments from National to Labour or the reverse, without the need for a new election.

  9. Adrian 9

In Kaikoura electorate Labour has had so far, only minor Saturday night damage to our hoardings, no graffiti, theft or damage, which is a huge turnaround from 2008. The Nats on the other hand are copping a lot of graffiti, cut out faces etc, it appears to be coming from the young. I think that says a lot more than dodgy polls. If we get any in the next 5 days it will be certainly down to Nat sympathisers. I feel that if the Nats get any more than 2008, (45.5%) it will be a miracle. If thats the case, Show Us Your Mates, John.

    • i drove all over Auckland yesterday, from Manukau to Orewa to New Lynn to Glendowie – about 150kms.
it was the same as you’ve said, National and ACT billboards massacred, others largely unscathed

    • fender 9.2

I just hope those who feel compelled to do damage to billboards get to the polling booth also and express their desire for change. A good turnout is vital to getting these Nat crooks out. Hopefully many Nat supporters don’t bother voting, thinking its a forgone conclusion.

    • Colonial Viper 9.3

There are a few electorates near me, some National, some Labour. Reports are the same – far less damage to Labour billboards this year than in 2008.

  10. coolas 10

Farrar is spinning the same line as Key – voting for Winston is asking for another election in 2012 costing $38m. Winston wasting $38m! So as others have said above the Nats (and their bum-boy bloggers) will be pushing this all week, shrill and fierce and utterly pathetic. But a part of me loves to see them panicking and desperate, especially Key ‘cos it reveals the side of him the branding has so far concealed. God he must be longing for Hawaii right now.

  11. dd 11

    Is Cameron Slater pure evil?

    • Tiger Mountain 11.1

dd: well he gives that impression, but he appears too damaged ackshully to have personally come up with all the research and snooping, the “Snitchline” for example is one of the most curtain twitching Stasi like intiatives I have ever seen in an NZ blog.

Yeah ShonKey is Winston focused so something is bubbling away there.

      • Jim Nald 11.1.1

Key is tripping up again and just made another poor call.
He is now strengthening Winston’s campaign:

        “Don’t panic, Peters tells Key”
        http://tvnz.co.nz/election-2011/don-t-panic-peters-tells-key-4550281

        • Tiger Mountain 11.1.1.1

Interesting Jim, it is contradictory surely for the PM to say that he won’t ever work with Winston and then acknowledge the “threat” of Winston as in the link and urge others not to vote for NZ1.

        • Draco T Bastard 11.1.1.2

          Quoting article:

The New Zealand First leader said National simply wants to govern alone.

He hit the nail on the head there. That’s exactly what National want to do and if they get it be very very scared. There’d be a massive dismantling of the state as all of our assets got sold ASAP, crime and poverty would climb to stratospheric heights in line with each other eventually culminating in the democracy’s last stand – revolution.

  12. fender 12

Scaremongering in an attempt to get votes. The country will not fall apart if Key isn’t PM. Knowing he’s going to leave parliment rather than be in opposition means I can’t wait for the day he gets beaten. It better be in a weeks time or I too may have to take a three year working holiday to Australia.

  13. Scott 13

I would imagine that if Key looses the election, he won’t be party leader for long.
    Let’s hope.

    • tc 13.1

Win or lose he won’t be leader long, job done he will be off to a much higher paid gig back in the cosy corporate world. house sold he’s lined up the next move.

By job done I mean lead them to victory and to another election…..like a CEO trying to achieve a target share price being an outright win next Saturday he will still pick up his bonus by staying the agreed term and move on.

  14. bruno 32 14

John Key will won a outright majority.Kiwi’s dont like vandals, haters and wreckers.

  15. Bored 15

Keys comments indicate his disdain for the niceties of democracy….having to debate and agree on every issue is surely what democracy is about. It is what I would expect from parliament, as opposed to the lazy dictatorship of the executive as Key would prefer.

    • Colonial Viper 15.1

Coming from a corporate background Key likely finds democratic processes slow, clumsy and finally, unnecessary.

      • Jim Nald 15.1.1

Rules and standards are also inconvenient or a bloody nuisance because they are not just only for other people.

      • anne 15.1.2

How can you say that key comes from a ‘corporate’ world when all he has ever done is shifted
money around,he is a ‘failed money trader’ thats all and now he has ‘failed’ the nz economy
and how does nz’ers know exactly what he has done with the $18b deficit, have an honest
look at his time as a trader on the site below.
        aotearoaawiderperspective.wordpress.com
If you still paint him as a ‘wonder boy’ then you are ‘dreamin mate’

  16. John Key states,

“”What Winston Peters is saying to New Zealanders is that on every budget, on every issue, there could be a general election.

“How can New Zealand govern itself over the next three years – which is likely to be a volatile period in the world economy – when at any stage the whole government can be brought down by Winston Peters” ” – http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/campaign-trail/6001293/PM-warns-of-Winston-Peters

Which is a bizarre, given that every single government elected under MMP has run it’s full three year term. No exceptions.

The same cannot be said of FPP governments, and as recently as 1984, the then-Prime Minister, Robert Muldoon, called a snap election before National’s term of office was due to end.

In short, John Key is fear-mongering. He is playing the “Winston Card” – which is kind of ironic, as Peters himself has pandered to similar fears and prejudices in his Treaty-bashing, and Asian immigrant-bashing, speeches and policies.

    • Colonial Viper 16.1

Basically, the more MSM air time for Winston, the better off he is. So thank you John Key, you’ve been great at rehabilitating NZ First.

    • Draco T Bastard 16.2

Which is a bizarre, given that every single government elected under MMP has run it’s full three year term. No exceptions.

Well, the first one came very close to collapsing but enough of the NZ1st MPs jumped ship and supported National after the coalition agreement exploded to get it through to the end of term. It was close though.

      • fmacskasy 16.2.1

True, Draco. I remember it well. I had a list of NZF MPs and was crossing off a name almost every hour, on the hour…

But tyhe buggers kept the Shipley guvmint afloat. As they say, turkeys don’t vote for an early Christmas, and these turkeys certainly wouldn’t. Though Tau Henare returned as a recycled MP for the Nats…

  17. Mark 17

The nation will speak next Saturday, and despite the MSN bullshit the will of the people will be rewarded. I’ll be celebrating, anyone care to join?

  18. McFlock 18

Might I suggest that open mike would be a better thread for a maudlin wail about people not sticking to the topic at hand, rather than a post about lame attempts at distraction from john key?

  19. Ari 19

If Key doesn’t want to have to rely on NZF abstaining, he better campaign well enough to win a majority government even if NZF shows up in Parliament…

Oh wait, National, like Labour, believe they’re entitled to our votes. I forgot. 😛

    • Colonial Viper 19.1

Labour, now constantly polling under 30%, certainly does not have any such sense of entitlement.

      • anne 19.1.1

You may come to eat those words, those i speak to are starting to realise that key is a liar,
not trustworthy, manipulative, they dont forget the slitting of the throat, the standards and poors
nonsense, the 3 downgrades, the national standards and now a personality test for teachers, scf issue,it just gets worse, the polls may have labour at 30,the polls are taken from 1000-1500 people, with landlines,on computers etc,the feeling on the ground is quite different and the birdies are comming home to roost I think key and his minders know this and thats why the attack on
goff and winston is now the focus.

  20. Roy 20

I see that on Stuff this morning (Monday) Key is denying that Aroha is leaving for Australia because opportunities are better there. So now he is a mind-reader?! The arrogance of the man seems to know no bounds.
I hope Aroha spaeks up to contradict him…not that it would be news that Key is dishonest.

    • the sprout 20.1

Aroha was quoted in the Herald link above for this post as saying:

“I don’t see us catching up, we are going backwards while they are getting way ahead. There’s not many opportunities here.”

perhaps the police will also be looking to remove all evidence of the interview with Aroha during their raid on the Herald offices this morning.

      • Roy 20.1.1

Hmmm, good point, I see that there is no need for her to speak up any further. She has already made it clear.

    • Draco T Bastard 20.2

      http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/6002208/PM-denies-teen-leaving-for-good-life

National leader John Key says the teenager he took to Waitangi Day three years ago is not leaving for Australia because life is better there.

Even though that’s why she said she was going – yeah, pure delusional BS.

He did not want to go into details about why he believed she was leaving.

That’s probably because he knew he was lying and would be caught out.

in difficult times, we’ve closed that wage gap with Australia.

After tax income down by $32/week wasn’t it?

      • rosy 20.2.1

“That’s probably because he knew he was lying and would be caught out”.
It’s a dog whistle.. like he might know why and it’s to do with her character, hint, hint. He’s such a slime-ball.

      • Deuto 20.2.2

Also in the final para of the Herald article (link in post above), Aroha’s mother said that Key had not been in touch with Aroha since the start of 2011, so how would he know why she is going to Australia.

“Nathan said Key had checked with Aroha regularly until the start of this year.”She hasn’t been getting any calls lately,” she added.”

      • Fortran 20.2.3

What does Aroha’s mother know – she has not been living with her since she was kicked out of school and now lives with her boyfriend.

  21. Roy 21

Yes, it is character assassination, by insinuation, of a teenager. What a vicious creep Key is.

    • kriswgtn 21.1

Yeah he tried the same on Keisha Castle Hughes

Strange he aint had a go @ Robyn Malcolm yet…………………………….

      • Roy 21.1.1

Could the fact that Robyn Malcolm is Pakeha, and Aroha and Keisha are not, have anything to do with it? Just wondering…

        • freedom 21.1.1.1

no, would be my first response. Key has many low and despicable traits but at his heart i do not see rascism. Bigoted ignorance of the poor certainly, but actual racism, i just don’t get that from him. The reason he won’t attack Robyn Malcolm would be more to do with her weighty support from many many many everyday NZ people. The ones he needs so desperately to lie to.

        • kriswgtn 21.1.1.2

          i hadnt thought of that
but lookin @ it- dont surprise me

  22. anne 22

I chose this message board because of the word ‘lameness’ not only does key and national inflict
such a demoralising and destructive education system on the childern and students of nz in ‘national standards’ they now are going to require teachers to take “personality tests’ ffs
those pills weren’t imported for the nats, were they? the continual roll on by key beggers belief,
i can honestly say i am stunned at their policies on all matters, policies that strip nz’ers of their
    rights,strip nz’ers of their pride,strip nz’ers of a future,strip nz’ers of hope,strip nz’ers of
    any economic prosperity at all.
Does Key assume he has ‘Unbridled Power’ now or is he drunk with it?
Someone arrest that man, before he causes any more harm to nz’ers.

    • Maggie May 22.1

I hear you loud and clear, I am gutted with my daughter, a solo mother come teacher through Labours policies, respective in her feild of RTLB and now just over a decade later, a good marriage uinder her belt, status she wanted, is now a committed National voter, “for the good of the country”.
