More lameness from the man with no ideas; wave goodbye to Aroha

In a desperate attempt to distract voters’ attention from his dire campaign problems, John Key has announced today that if Winston is re-elected (in which case me might well hold the balance of power), New Zealand will be forced to go back to the polls within weeks. Presumably until there’s a result that pleases His Lordship.

As Winston Peters has refused to offer anything more to prospective ruling parties than to vote issue by issue, Mr Key believes that “every budget, on every issue, there could be a general election. How can New Zealand govern itself over the next three years – which is likely to be a volatile period in the world economy – when at any stage the whole government can be brought down by Winston Peters“.

What a tired and out of ideas lame-arse Key is really proving himself to be. This from the man who says he want to talk about policy and the issues that matter to voters.

Meanwhile elsewhere on the limping catastrophe that is the John Key Campaign, Aroha Ireland, the girl Key paraded around Waitangi to make it look as if he gave a shit about the underpriveledged, has decided to leave New Zealand and join the record numbers of kiwis leaving permanently for a Brighter Future in Australia. With clearly more insight than the man who once pretended to care about her, Aroha said “I don’t see us catching up, we are going backwards while they are getting way ahead. There’s not many opportunities here.”

          Given how relaxed Mr Key has been about almost everything else in the past 3 years I cannot see how he would be anything but ‘relaxed about Peters returning to Parliament’.

          I mean, if nothing else got his pulse rate rising why would the election of a political rival?

          Unless it threatened his self interests and being relected as PM?

          Hmmm.

    Key is just like all the things he imagines beneficiaries are: lazy, surly, work-dodging, blaming, anti- social, whining, not worth the money.

    Don’t vote NZ first, vote john Key: It’ll be cheaper, except for Key’s pay rises, his job won’t require any skill and if it all goes wrong it’s your fault.

      This certainly seems to be the case judging by Key’s empty rhetoric, behaviour and disappearances over the last three years. Even one of his coalition ministers, Rodney Hide, said he was lazy.
      I ‘ve often felt I am adrift in the Pacific Ocean on board a large ship with no one at the helm. Key said he was the “skipper” of national – well, I wish he was better at being the skipper rather than the ‘scupper’ of our country. No wonder Aroha has gone to Oz.
      I hope she does well, no chance of that here at the moment.

    It shows now that key and his co-horts are running scared that they will not have their grubby
    hands on tax payers money and will not be able to bring in such punitive measures that will
    bring average kiwi’s to their knees,(he will smile while doing it though)
    There is not one thing that they have done that can be seen as beneficial for nz,the only benefit
    is for their prefered part of the population.
    Time for nz to get rid of key and co-horts or face the consequences.

    It is somewhat of a valid concern, although I believe the Greens in 2002 ended up abstaining from all confidence and supply, under arrangement with Labour.

    I guess it’s a little different in this case, if Winston doesn’t agree specifically agree to abstain, he just does it while it suits him and could topple the government whenever he saw fit. But if he were the king-maker and did abstain, he could easily change his vote and swap governments from National to Labour or the reverse, without the need for a new election.

    In Kaikoura electorate Labour has had so far, only minor Saturday night damage to our hoardings, no graffiti, theft or damage, which is a huge turnaround from 2008. The Nats on the other hand are copping a lot of graffiti, cut out faces etc, it appears to be coming from the young. I think that says a lot more than dodgy polls. If we get any in the next 5 days it will be certainly down to Nat sympathisers. I feel that if the Nats get any more than 2008, (45.5%) it will be a miracle. If thats the case, Show Us Your Mates, John.

      i drove all over Auckland yesterday, from Manukau to Orewa to New Lynn to Glendowie – about 150kms.
      it was the same as you’ve said, National and ACT billboards massacred, others largely unscathed

      I just hope those who feel compelled to do damage to billboards get to the polling booth also and express their desire for change. A good turnout is vital to getting these Nat crooks out. Hopefully many Nat supporters don’t bother voting, thinking its a forgone conclusion.

      There are a few electorates near me, some National, some Labour. Reports are the same – far less damage to Labour billboards this year than in 2008.

    Farrar is spinning the same line as Key – voting for Winston is asking for another election in 2012 costing $38m. Winston wasting $38m! So as others have said above the Nats (and their bum-boy bloggers) will be pushing this all week, shrill and fierce and utterly pathetic. But a part of me loves to see them panicking and desperate, especially Key ‘cos it reveals the side of him the branding has so far concealed. God he must be longing for Hawaii right now.

    Scaremongering in an attempt to get votes. The country will not fall apart if Key isn’t PM. Knowing he’s going to leave parliment rather than be in opposition means I can’t wait for the day he gets beaten. It better be in a weeks time or I too may have to take a three year working holiday to Australia.

      Win or lose he won’t be leader long, job done he will be off to a much higher paid gig back in the cosy corporate world. house sold he’s lined up the next move.

      By job done I mean lead them to victory and to another election…..like a CEO trying to achieve a target share price being an outright win next Saturday he will still pick up his bonus by staying the agreed term and move on.

    Keys comments indicate his disdain for the niceties of democracy….having to debate and agree on every issue is surely what democracy is about. It is what I would expect from parliament, as opposed to the lazy dictatorship of the executive as Key would prefer.

    Which is a bizarre, given that every single government elected under MMP has run it’s full three year term. No exceptions.

    The same cannot be said of FPP governments, and as recently as 1984, the then-Prime Minister, Robert Muldoon, called a snap election before National’s term of office was due to end.

    In short, John Key is fear-mongering. He is playing the “Winston Card” – which is kind of ironic, as Peters himself has pandered to similar fears and prejudices in his Treaty-bashing, and Asian immigrant-bashing, speeches and policies.

      Well, the first one came very close to collapsing but enough of the NZ1st MPs jumped ship and supported National after the coalition agreement exploded to get it through to the end of term. It was close though.

    I see that on Stuff this morning (Monday) Key is denying that Aroha is leaving for Australia because opportunities are better there. So now he is a mind-reader?! The arrogance of the man seems to know no bounds.
    I hope Aroha spaeks up to contradict him…not that it would be news that Key is dishonest.

The reason he won’t attack Robyn Malcolm would be more to do with her weighty support from many many many everyday NZ people. The ones he needs so desperately to lie to.

      I hear you loud and clear, I am gutted with my daughter, a solo mother come teacher through Labours policies, respective in her feild of RTLB and now just over a decade later, a good marriage uinder her belt, status she wanted, is now a committed National voter, “for the good of the country”.
