Richlister calls for huge benefit increase

Mark Hotchin is expected to become a campaigner for beneficiaries if cleared of serious fraud allegations. His assets frozen, the SFO has given Hotchin a 1K a week allowance. Not enough for the basics: private school, hire car, mortgage on mansion. A family of 7 needs 360K a year, he says. Not being a hypocrite, he’ll be wanting more for beneficiary families too – eh?

Hotchin you are a shameless, useless waste of space, absolute wanker. And I do not say that lightly.
Rich prick would be far to kind.

Further comments on this post now not needed as Kaplan has succinctly summarised the situation

  2. I too was struck by the prospect of Sue Bradford and Mark Hotchin uniting on behalf on beneficiaries against Ms Bennett and her hordes.

The point, as Will Hutton, Robert Wade and others have pointed out, is that these people (especially the financial genus) have, over the last thirty years or so, become certain of their right to massive incomes, to the point that they can assume $360k per annum is a minimum required for an acceptable lifestyle.

  3. Jim Nald 3

Family of 7? I only read, from that piece, family of 5 (including the three kids)??

Anyway, dear hot sexy Hotchin, no need to ask for $7000 per week, come back to NZ, come take it on the chin and live amongst those here who are on $700 per week. You would still be a lot better off than the $529 median weekly income*.

    * Median weekly income for all people from all sources:

maybe the seven people he has to support are himself, partner, 3 kids, domestic, and personal assistant?

  4. Descendant Of Smith 4

This is probably a good example of where travel costs to work eat into someones budget making them just as badly off as a beneficiary:

At least $5900-00 a week in business class flights from Hawaii to Auckland and back

    $7,000 – travel costs to work $5900-00 = $1,100.
Probably at least another $100-00 in taxis to and from the airport.

Hopefully Jeremy can help him with his budget.

    • Jeremy Harris 4.1

Wow, the truth stung you on that thread eh..?

      • Descendant Of Smith 4.1.1

        Just taking the piss.

It’s not my fault that you can’t distinguish between income received and income after (some) expenses have come out.

2 Corinthians 11:19 at least tells me to enjoy your efforts to portray something that simply can’t mathematically happen.

Not even John Key would argue that a benefit is more than the minimum wage. Tell you what – lodge a query with the PM and ask if it’s possible that someone working full-time can receive less income than someone on a benefit – all family circumstances being equal.

If you won’t believe anyone else – maybe you’ll believe the PM.

Give him as many examples as you like – when the maths is done the income received will always be higher for the person working. It’s deliberate government policy to make it that way.

        • Jeremy Harris 4.1.1.1

But I never argued that the core minimum wage is lower than the core benefit, I argued that some beneficiaries receive more when all expenses, supplements, etc are taken into account and it is that final figure that is available for poverty alleviation, it was part of a wider point that child poverty is not just a question of upping benefits, that having a parent in employment improves the child poverty stats…

Not that Hotchin’s kids will ever have to worry about poverty methinks…

  5. Craig Glen Eden 5

Go and do some work Hotchin have you thought about actually working for a living. Give John Key a call and he will hook you up with a job on the cycleway.

  6. grumpy 6

Perhaps he just needs a gentle reminder of what would have happenned to him in China.

    Kaplan (1) is most restained.

  7. Descendant Of Smith 7

    Little update:

“He withdrew his application for more than $1000 a week which gained widespread media publicity. Justice Helen Winkelmann refused his request to transport a $200,000 Mercedes and a $90,000 Porsche to Australia and also refused a bid to let him have some money released from his frozen bank accounts in New Zealand to pay off debts, including an accounting bill to Ernst & Young.

The judge told him he could instead pay what he owes from the A$240,000 ($320,000) he and his wife have stashed away in Australian bank accounts. ”

So he has ample money to live off tucked away overseas but wanted more – at least the judge was sensible and clear.

And to top this off, the Minister of Social Welfare returns from a taxpayer-funded junket to the US, brags about eating crayfish till she vomits, jokes about casual sex and claims Key is the only man who can tell her what to do……

If his living costs are around $360K after tax then it is unfortunate to lose his tax contribution like we have.

Nah frak it guys like him happily destroy tens of millions of wealth from our economy, and expect to walk away with their own fortunes and lifestyles intact.

He can go rip off the Ozzies instead.

Nah frak it guys like him happily destroy tens of millions of wealth from our economy, and expect to walk away with their own fortunes and lifestyles intact.

I think that quote is more appropriate for Labour MPs, look at Cullen and his pathetic management of the economy into recession and the destruction of wealth that caused – what sort of salary is he on now and how is his “protected” wealth now compared to the tall poppies your policies of envy mind set loves to chop down.

        • Colonial Viper 9.1.1.1

          ROFL burt

LAB = 9 years budget surpluses and record low unemployment

NAT = 3 years strike out deficits, unemployment between 6-7%, worse if you are Maori, Pasifika, Female or young.

Lolz keep voting for clueless + planless Bill and John, New Zealand and you will have more of the same.

This National Government is a government of missed opportunities.

    • Kaplan 9.2

I’d say it’s about as unfortunate as it is to lose the rental and utility contributions of a flatmate who gets pissed every weekend, trashes the house and then steals your wallet.

    • grumpy 9.3

and the good news is………he’s got a $5m tax bill due March next year 🙂

      • burt 9.3.1

        grumpy

Just watch the policies of envy tall poppy bashers cheering he can’t pay his $5m tax bill… just before they call for tax increases and more govt spending.

RNWJ’s seem to love playing the Politics of Envy and Greed

So how about it burt, why is envy on your mind all the time that you have to be the first to bring the subject up this thread?

          • grumpy 9.3.1.1.1

The difference between left and right, CV, is that us righties would love to have a $1m tax bill, and the difference between us and the left is – we can say it!!!!
