I’m pretty sure the smiley face means you’re not allowed to ~take it too seriously~ or something like that.

  2. adam 2

Hey Farrar, you know there is a special place in hell for people like you. How about you turn a gun on yourself and save the world from your liberal bullshit.

  3. Arfamo 3

It’s times like this I experience intense pleasure imagining for a moment what it would be like to be reading DF’s obituary.

    • Thanks for linking to our post. Took me ages to find out how traffic was getting from this thread to my site and now I’ve figured it out.

Like I said in the post, I don’t think there is such a thing as “too soon”, but rather there are people who will take offence and people who will not. The trick is working out your audience. DPF’s problem in this instance is that he is a public figure, so anything he does on Facebook will leak out into the chattering classes who will tut tut him for his bad taste (besides, the gag isn’t even that funny and could have been constructed in a funnier way but I won’t go into that).

We don’t control what we find funny, but we do control who we inflict that on.

  4. One Anonymous Knucklehead 5

I think calling for Farrar’s death and/or suicide is pretty much in the same ballpark as his (completely unfunny, as in: I like morbid humour. It didn’t even raise a smile) “joke”.

    But that’s the point.

  5. Saarbo 6

I think most of us just feel incredibly sad for the mother of the children, that is our overriding emotion to this event.

This joke says a lot about David Farrar and consequently his choice of politics. Clearly Farrar is a person whose brain does not have compassion and empathy wired into it. Im sure many other Right Wingers are similar. Compassion and empathy are a major point of difference between the Right and Left.

    • Anne 6.1

      +1 Saarbo

I think of two lovely little kiddies who were cut down at the dawn of life, and a mother who will never get over it.

Clearly Farrar is a person whose brain does not have compassion and empathy wired into it.

There’s a medical name for it and right wingers represent the vast bulk of them. Unfortunately they are clever at disguising it from Joe and Mary Bloggs. It’s a condition which defies logic and any ability to understand anything beyond their own self-centred and cocooned little worlds.

The problem is that even those of us who do recognize it don’t really know how to combat it but carry on like rabbits in the headlights. There must be away though – funnily enough I think Dotcom may have a bit of a handle on it.

  6. Paul 7

    Selfish, senseless and thoughtless.

  7. Debbie Brown 8

Not at all funny. DF should be ashamed of himself.

  8. vto 9

That’s National Party members for you.

  9. Redrobin 10

Whilst not excusing those comments at all, perhaps you should look at your own backyard too?

    http://thestandard.org.nz/scoop-and-whaleoil-a-tale-of-two-websites/

    • karol 10.1

Diversion, much. How is the DPF tweet anything like micky’s post about the two websites – was micky exploiting some appalling murders?

    • QoT 10.2

Ah yes, the old “I’m totally not excusing or derailing, but look over here!” line.

  10. bad12 11

Sick indeed!!!, we usually expect such ugliness to come from the King of Filth over at ‘Wail oil’, Farrer like Hooten make an effort to portray themselves as operating form a higher intellectual level, both even assuming the ‘plum in mouth’ diction of the English language early on,(such silver spoon language having fallen from their favor recently),

In all reality tho, this latest piece of ugliness to emanate from Farrer along with Hooten’s bizaare ‘liar’ attack on Labour leader David Cunliffe shows us all that the King of Filth has companions in the gutter and none of us should ever extend the slightest sign of respect for any of them…

  11. galeandra 12

Can Bain expect this kind of pollution to mark the intimate milestones for the rest of his life?

  12. Redrobin 13

Karol, was referring to the comments.

    • Pascal's bookie 13.1

It is traditional on the internet to link to the thing you are talking about, rather than the thing you are not talking about. Aids clarity. You’re welcome.

  13. amirite 14

What’s more disturbing, is that there are many of Farrar’s ‘followers’ who find it funny too and, like Farrar, are lacking in human empathy and decency.

  14. Will@Welly 15

There’s a woman, a mother, who has to come to terms with this for the rest of her life, ffs Farrar. The man is an emotional cripple. I have never been able to resolve how people can do this to their own children. Bad enough doing it to others, but your own? Come on Farrar, grow a pair.

  15. Paul 16

This article by George Monbiot explains a lot.
    Here are some excerpts.

“How Ayn Rand became the new right’s version of Marx
Her psychopathic ideas made billionaires feel like victims and turned millions of followers into their doormats”

“It has a fair claim to be the ugliest philosophy the postwar world has produced. Selfishness, it contends, is good, altruism evil, empathy and compassion are irrational and destructive. The poor deserve to die; the rich deserve unmediated power.
It is not hard to see why Rand appeals to billionaires. She offers them something that is crucial to every successful political movement: a sense of victimhood. She tells them that they are parasitised by the ungrateful poor and oppressed by intrusive, controlling governments.

It is harder to see what it gives the ordinary teabaggers, who would suffer grievously from a withdrawal of government. But such is the degree of misinformation which saturates this movement and so prevalent in the US is Willy Loman syndrome (the gulf between reality and expectations) that millions blithely volunteer themselves as billionaires’ doormats. I wonder how many would continue to worship at the shrine of Ayn Rand if they knew that towards the end of her life she signed on for both Medicare and social security. She had railed furiously against both programmes, as they represented everything she despised about the intrusive state. Her belief system was no match for the realities of age and ill health.’

Rand’s is the philosophy of the psychopath, a misanthropic fantasy of cruelty, revenge and greed.
    http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/mar/05/new-right-ayn-rand-marx

A perfect description of Farrar and his ilk…. ‘psychopathic doormats’

  16. infused 17

When he posted that, there was no information about those deaths. The story was ‘breaking’.

    • Pascal's bookie 17.1

No info other than that 3 people had been killed, so lol I guess.

    • freedom 17.2

      Headline accompanying the tweet reads:
“Three bodies found in Dunedin house”
infused, you really should learn to read, it might stop you looking like such a braindead apologist

or will you try to weasel out of it like you do with everything else

      • infused 17.2.1

Why don’t you try and read. I said no information about the deaths, ie who was involved.

        • freedom 17.2.1.1

so in your world it is okay to make juvenlie jokes within hours of three people being slaughtered just as long as the details aren’t clear . . .
          got it,
you really are a nauseating cup of pondscum

        • Murray Olsen 17.2.1.2

Infused, are you trying to say that Bain could have been involved and Farrar was just trying to help the investigation? You seem every bit as sick as him. You have the right to remain silent, ffs learn to use it.

    • Paul 17.3

      Wow!
Is there anything you won’t defend?

    • Will@Welly 17.4

infused – the only thing that should be “broken” is your spine, you spineless cretin. Defending the indefensible is part of the National/Act mantra.

  17. Morrissey 18

If Farrar was merely unfunny and crass, as this “joke” shows, that would be bad enough. But he’s actually much, much worse. Shortly after Israel’s mass slaughter of more than 1,400 people in Gaza, Farrar accepted a free trip to Israel by the Israeli regime, which included a brief visit to illegally occupied East Jerusalem. With a display of resolute blindness and deafness, Farrar reported that “things were generally very relaxed in this area”.
    http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2009/11/jerusalem.html

Then, a few years later, he had the gall to attack Gareth and Jo Morgan for the same behaviour in another rogue state….

I’ve just asked the comedian a few pertinent questions on his own blog….

David, there has been a lot of adverse comment about this joke you posted recently…..
    http://cdn.thestandard.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/DPF-Bain.jpg

However unfunny and crass that joke may be, it is after all just a joke. But your behaviour has been actually much, much worse than that. Shortly after Israel’s mass slaughter of more than 1,400 people in Gaza, you accepted a trip to Israel paid for by the Israeli regime, which included a brief visit to illegally occupied East Jerusalem. With a display of resolute blindness and deafness, you reported that “things were generally very relaxed in this area”.
    http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2009/11/jerusalem.html

So what I and I’m sure many others would like to know is this: was your infamous “things were generally very relaxed comment” another example of your propensity for black humour? And did you tell that joke to any Palestinians on your flying visit? Or were they too terrified to come near your tour party?

I get out plenty, thanks. It’s easy. Not so easy is reading and learning about something before you comment on it: that’s the task we’re giving you. Hopefully it will put a stop to your mindless pro-torture comments.

Off you go now. To the library, hopefully.

Every now and then the truth seeps through from the comfort of a white male computer user earning over 100k a year.

    • Grumpy 20.1

So what are you saying? Is the brain fart because he is white, male, uses a computer or earns more than $100k?
How do those attributes, collectively and individually arrive at the outcome?
Surely, you are not racist, misandrist, envious and computer phobic……?

  20. Tracey 21

” Is the brain fart because he is white, male, uses a computer or earns more than $100k?”

All of them. Its not a brain fart it is the truth of his view of the world seeping through the carefully crafted… and paid for… veneer. Sorry I wasnt clearer.

  21. Jack Ramaka 22

Farrar is basically a National Party Tool, the Tories love the sick humour of Kiwi Bog and Whale Slime they reflect the purile behaviour of their almighty leader, in Parliament the Colonial Clot Johnnie Sparkles

  22. Murray Olsen 23

Farrar is a piece of shit, and so is the party he works for. Sometimes they manage to disguise the stench, but it always escapes in the end.

Remember this name: Inspector Greg Sparrow, area commander for Dunedin, Clutha and Waitaki. Just as useless as Marshall.

He was warned and the arsehole sat on his thumb because, hey it’s just death threats made against a woman and her kids, nothing serious or real.

The world has always been a dangerous place for women and children unprotected by an ‘alpha male’. Every now and then there is an illusion that it is becoming safer, but then there is a right wing and sexist backlash and back to reality!
