Smile and Wave

Confronted with a protest about the government’s lack of action on child poverty, John Key’s response is:

“So yeah, they just protest because that’s all they’ve got to do all day.”

As though protesting – participating in our democracy – was a particularly unimportant thing to do.

Also, if the people he was writing off were only protesting because of a lack of things to do… Maybe that’s because he’s running a lousy government with high unemployment and the very lack of jobs that was part of what they were protesting about…  Good depth of vision there John.

But on another issue John is keen for everyone to have very good vision – his smiling and waving.  That’s why he’s advertising for an “enthusiastic videographer” – to be paid for out of his leader’s budget (“which we can spend however we like”).

Because it’s important nobody misses a smile or a wave from John. (But not important that he does anything about jobs).

Has Anybody Else Read This Crap
    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11169619
From This Piece of Crap and his Toadies?

Edit: Now, I’m gonna swear publicly; This prime minister, while he represents a fading zeitgeist, is a FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!

there, rant over. Fuck him and his Tory cohorts. Fuckwits!

    • Arfamo 1.1

Yep. I skimmed over the fluff in the article which was nauseating and read the comments which were much more enlightening.

      • tc 1.1.1

yes those comments are probably destined as inputs into next years spin cycle for a wrecking ball 3rd term attempt.

Its as if the herald puts this out there to gather market research for the natz.

    • Arfamo 1.2

there, rant over. Fuck him and his Tory cohorts. Fuckwits!

Lol. Doesn’t that last sentence, and the fwits!, indicate that the rant wasn’t over?

    • Paul 1.3

From memory, Key votes with his wallet and sends his kids to a rich private school.
Hardly any support of belief for the country’s education system.
      Is anything he says true?

    • David H 1.4

Which kids are the Brighter future? The Rich Kids? Because the poor kids have nothing to look forward to under this bunch of self indulgent fools.

    • It looks like responsibility for the ‘brighter future’ has now been out-sourced to New Zealand’s children.

Perhaps Key no longer thinks it has anything to do with him or his government. And why on earth he suggests that National Standards is one of the great things his government is doing for children is baffling.

First, National Standards cannot possibly be responsible for all the amazing things he sees children doing every day of his ‘work’ week. Most would have grown up without them. Second, it’s hard to see how confirming for children that they are ‘below standard’ is going to improve their chances of having a ‘brighter future’.

In a week punctuated by reports damning of the government’s lack of effective policy on child poverty (UNICEF report and the Children’s Commissioner’s independently funded research) this is so obviously a PR response and fair reeks with cynicism.

    • Dumrse 1.6

You’re in opposition for anther four years. Get the fuck over it before you blow a valve.

    • Crunchtime 1.7

So yeah, he just writes vacant morally bankrupt puff articles, and the Herald publishes them, because that’s all they’ve got to do all day.

The comments though, wonderful! Expressing all the disgust, distaste and anger toward Key better than I could.

  2. Rogue Trooper 2

Yes, and yes the comments are informative. Did I say “Tory pieces of shit”? cos’ by the Lord, that is what I meant. Now for some therapeutic weeding. sigh

  3. Rosie 3

    I particularly like this bit:

“They’re the same people protesting about deep sea oil drilling, they’re the same people protesting about the convention centre, they’re the same people that protested about changes to the labour laws for the Hobbit, they’re the same people that protested about the 90 day probationary period.”

So either that shiny new GCSB Act and the TICS Act is working out super duper if Key already KNOWS these are all the same protestors attending all these protests OR he is, as Roguey puts it above at #1.

Key’s contempt of ordinary people and their right to dissent, demonstrate, and agitate has never wavered these last 5 years. It’s a jolly big ol’ joke to him.

“Pass the champagne Bronagh, let’s have a laugh at the expense of the peasants. Aren’t they quaint, revolting like that. Guffaw guffaw”

    • North 3.1

Yeah, and they’re the same people who opposed apartheid in ’81 because they were human and hated apartheid while you ShonKey Python pissarsed on dreaming of being rich and nothing else.

And sucked contentedly at the breast of the psychotic Maggot Thatcher while the mad thing screamed “terrorist”.

      Shame on you Chief Mourner.

  4. ghostrider888 4

and what comfort will the DPS provide once he is deposed.

  5. Paul 5

“So yeah, they just protest because that’s all they’ve got to do all day.”

Guess Key would have said that about Mandela, MLK, Gandhi…

  6. Garbageman 6

Cmon people can you actually blame the man seeing the same professional protestors every other day only thing that would be worse would be sitting next to Minto all the way to South Africa , another wise decision by a great leader

    • bad12 6.1

This comment is, well just garbage man…

    • McFlock 6.2

you know, if dunnokeyo actually did something about child poverty, he wouldn’t see those protestors at all. And if he actually came clean about his level of support for apartheid in 1981, sharing a plane with minto would be less uncomfortable for him.

      • tc 6.2.1

On the Bok tour JK’s gone from can’t recall to I was against it but didn’t protest.

The MSM conveniently don’t take him to task on this sudden recollection of his position, funny that.

The problem with lying is johnny is you can’t stop at one.

    • North 6.3

      Not a man, certainly garbage.

    • framu 6.4

      ” professional protestors”

prove they are getting paid then – go on. You seem so certain, that you use the term

do you just like repeating things that the “cool kids” say?

heres a really, blindingly obvious idea – perhaps these people are smart enough to see that many things are interconnected and they actually give a shit? – two personality traits that seem to have escaped you going by that comment

  7. fambo 7

Can’t believe he actually said that, till I read the link – one has to give up precious time and money to protest, neither of which protestors have a lot of. The right wing actually knows this and attacks on multiple fronts to stretch the resources of the oppostion to the point of being ineffectual. It is never short of resources itself because it has wealthy backers (anyone come across a National Party fund raising raffle at a supermarket lately?) and also this government uses the tools of government that were supposed to help New Zealanders, to attack them.

    • rich the other 7.1

      Your wrong fambo,
They have plenty of time, it’s other peoples valuable time and money they waste.
These people would be better off going and invest their time in learning some valuable life skills.

      • Rosie 7.1.1

rich the other one. Can you please prove to us how protestors waste other people’s “valuable” time and their money too? Can you also prove how protestors, as a group, have no life skills?

I’m intrigued you see. I’ve spent some time participating in our democracy and I can say those I’ve known and worked with are well organised, thoughtful and intelligent people with excellent communication skills. I haven’t known any of these people to avail themselves of the resources of others either.

Ps. It’s “You’re” as in you are

      • Rogue Trooper 7.1.2

maybe time to flag this mofo

        • Garbageman 7.1.2.1

A: Who are you to be flagging anyone
B: Maybe its you that sould be flagged after your pathetic abusive swearing rant at the start of this post, you are not the only one that comes here to read the posts and im sure most people dont need to be exposed to your vile childish rubbish when they come here to be educated, entertained or any other reason

          • North 7.1.2.1.1

Strangely upfront of the right wing moral trailer trash to choose the most delightfully apposite nom-de-plumes – garbageman, dumrse……

            • Garbageman 7.1.2.1.1.1

Nice use of the word apposite dont see it to often well not in my trailer park anyway, but you let yourself down believing morals are left or right leaning strange comment North

          • Rogue Trooper 7.1.2.1.2

:-D, and that’s a bit rich coming from a ‘johnny-come-lately’, then you’ve probably already been told.

      • Colonial Viper 7.1.3

They have plenty of time, it’s other peoples valuable time and money they waste.
These people would be better off going and invest their time in learning some valuable life skills.

Social resistance is a valuable life skill.

Anyway if these protesters went away that would be bloody convenient for the wealthy power elite.

        • framu 7.1.3.1

“would be bloody convenient for the wealthy power elite”

and also, just maybe, its convenient for those who trot after them desperately trying to lick their backsides? – just how far down the backside licking chain rich the other actually is, i dont know.

But i dont think the degrees of backside separation really matter that much. Its like some sort of voluntary human centipede without the surgery

  8. Matthew 8

The 150 person rent a mob showed up. So what?

They’ll be somewhere else next week and the week after that and the week after that.

In between protests they will make up poverty stats using inequality data!!

    • idlegus 8.1

otago university made up the stats? thats a serious allegation, got any proof? whats this rent-a-mob? if so then im owed some bloody pay!

    • McFlock 8.2

I was at a protest a few weeks back. Wasn’t paid a penny.

    • Anne 8.3

Oooh now there’s a scandal. Rent a mob protestors living on the dole at the same time? Why hasn’t anyone potted them to the police? Why haven’t they been prosecuted? Where’s the media on this one – not a peep out of them. Surely they’re not covering up this scandal – are they?

Come on Matthew. Go to the police. It’s your duty to report what you know. We’ll support you all the way… 😡

    • framu 8.4

does this sad paper thin stereotype ever have anything to say?

  9. tricledrown 9

Mcflock you should complain to the human riots commision.

  10. tricledrown 10

    Rich pull the other one.
Its about time you learned what you preached.
    Redneck rants are hardly good
Enough for some one who implies he has learned something.
Wasting your time over here !

  11. tricledrown 11

AMathew why are you so concerned.
Remember your leader didn’t have to worry about poverty !
Labour party policies protected him by giving his mothet a new start after his dead beat alcoholic father passed away.
We johnny and his mum were able to get free housing widows pension healthcare education to tertiary level all for free courtesy of the likes of my family who didn’t need help but were happy to pay taxes for we johnny who Now is denying the same path to others.

  12. CC 12

Key’s riding instructions from Crosby Textor are ever more closely channeling the lines they sold to Muldoon. Clearly, Russel Norman was on the money – John is the mini-me Muldoon, which is not surprising when the same puppet masters are still pulling the strings for the 1%.

  13. felix 13

    Matthew, rich, Garbageman.

That’s exactly the same shit that you and your ilk (including Key most likely) were saying in 1981.

    Charming.

  14. BrucetheMoose 14

And they sent this guy to Mandela’s funeral? Just how stupid has NZ become?

    • rhinocrates 14.1

It was done because it’s “proper” and “appropriate” and so on and so on. I don’t believe that there’s a fine line between “proper” and “stupid” – instead, I’m sure that the two overlap substantially.

  15. blue leopard (Get Lost GCSB Bill) 15

It is a pity that Key doesn’t ‘balance’ up his attitudes toward people protesting with similar attitudes toward those professional protesters – lobbyists -that he must have so much to do with.

Oh noes wait! To do that would be to go against those who he really works for.
