I’m really looking forward to Peter Dunne retiring next election. Not as much as I would like to see him defeated but getting rid of him by any means is a godsend. This week, he has been blackmailing Labour: demanding they doff their caps to him or he would vote down their bills. So much for principle. His twitter account is a stream in invective unworthy of a minister of the Crown.

Here’s a sample from the past two months:

He’s not wrong though is he?

    • Tiger Mountain 1.1

Opportunists can rarely be totally ‘wrong’ due to the very nature of their convoluted shapeshifting dishonest behaviour.

Aside: I have not been that comfortable with the continuing mockery of Dunne’s male bouffant style ’do that surely some must secretly envy, perhaps not the style, but the mere abundant presence of hair. What say all you young shave heads out there. There is little credible mileage really in dissing another’s visage, many of us are not oil paintings or next years ripped top model.

Dunne is a detestable guy for sure though, he attended unemployed marches and rallies in the early 80s when a Labour member, like Mad Dog Prebble and “Save the Rail”-hypocrites-maybe, opportunists-definitely.

      • felix 1.1.1

While I agree that it’s a bit silly, I think people make fun of the hairdo because it’s seen as a vanity.

        • Tiger Mountain 1.1.1.1

Yeah, don’t want to get too precious about it. Pity PD does not have a comb over perhaps…

the worm man is back in the earth composting

  2. Pascal's bookie 2

huge call saying he’s the worst man on an earth that still has Dick Cheney slithering around on it, but he’s without doubt the ugliest tweeting NZ pollie. I grabbed some previously here:

What does this idiot actually stand for, I must ask again and again.

He may not be the “worst man on Eearth”, but he is certainly one of the most useless and overrated, self centred, vain pollies in the world, and for that sake certainly NZ.

I also look forward to see that guy retire to his house and perhaps start writing his memoirs for sale to bored old fashioned housewives discussing drivel at afternoon tea parties.

    • Matt 3.1

“What does this idiot actually stand for, I must ask again and again.”

This idiot stands for whatever is best for Peter Dunne at any given instance.

  4. bloody hell he is weird – I kept looking for the satire tag

    • felix 4.1

It’s hard to believe it’s not a parody account.

But yeah, apart from his hateful, spiteful attitude to everything, the bit I don’t get is how someone who has been in parliament for 150 years and achieved exactly NOTHING can be so solipsistic.

  5. felix 5

BUT HOW WOULD GOVT FUNCTION WITHOUT HIM HE’S SOOO IMPORTANT!!!!

    • lostinsuburbia 5.1

Don’t forget that he stands for common sense. I mean without him we’d be selling off our national assets … Oh wait a minute … Fuck,

  6. Blue 6

I was disgusted when I read this article:

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=10821994

What sort of man would trifle with the passing of laws just because of his own ego?

A man who has completely lost sight of what he was elected to Parliament for.

    A disgrace and a shame.

    • Bill 6.1

Yup. I can accept that he’d vote on the side of Labour on some issues and on the side of National on others. But to suggest he shouldn’t be critisised for his stand on any particular issue because that tempts him to seek some type of personal revenge and policy/principles be damned is (even for a politician) a statement/confession of the really fckin fcked variety.

      • mike 6.1.1

“Mr Dunne admitted he was tempted to withhold support for the Labour MPs’ bills in revenge for the “smears” he was subjected to during debate on the state assets sale bill, but decided sticking to his principles was more noble than political utu.”

        http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=10821994

Translation: “Both sides of the house had better start liking the taste of my wang. Otherwise I might just put my beautiful hand right in your face when you’re trying to pass something. Sometimes my ego gets bigger than the Sky City Tower. Having said that, at the end of the day I will of course vote for whatever is convenient for me to think is in the best interests of New Zealand and/or the alcohol industry. Now those guys understand how to rub my rug, the Labour party could learn a thing or two from them. And furthermore… excuse me a minute… here it comes… O M G… I’m so awesome… I’m so awesome… “

  7. Tanz 7

He’s not as bad as the PM though!

    • Murray Olsen 7.1

I agree. Dunne is sad, Key is dangerous. Too much time on Dunne is a distraction.

  8. Cnut 8

A politican prostitute empowered by MMP, willing to spread his legs to whoever will toss him a crust.

  9. David H 9

But when he’s gone, Pete Secret Squirrel George will have NO ONE to hero worship, and UF will be defunct..

  10. higherstandard 10

    Bombastic cant.

  11. Why on earth would he retire? He’s barely pushing 60. He’s a young un compared to the old crusties like Winston.

    • xtasy 11.1

Ahem, whatever one may think of Winston, he is a fighter and full blooded politician, who will likely carry on until he is too frail to do so.

The self loving “count” of Ohariu is not so much a fighter and passionate politician, he is more of a prostituting opportunist, whose loyalties are merely to himself and his present mood and of course his chosen “masters”.

Some are forced to retire, because such ones as Mr “Done” tend to lose all friends, so having none left will leave them “unemployable”.

  12. felix 12

Also look at his tiny hands. Like a badger.

Call me what you like but I don’t trust people with tiny hands.

    • mac1 12.1

Felix, you related to that friend of the Marlburian Right Wing, Lockwood Smith? And I don’t mean Rugby!

    • Carol 12.2

      poor me 🙁

      • felix 12.2.1

Actually my prejudice only extends to men. Not sure if that makes me better or worse, but there it is.

        • Carol 12.2.1.1

Whew! I’m glad I can be trusted…. whether or not it’s unnecessarily gendered.

Dunne’s record speaks for itself in the untrustworthy issue. Being in the government more important than his principles.

    • “Call me what you like…”

Scum-flaps? Meat-whore? Worthless minge? Weeping Sore? Bloated fuck bag? Urine gourd? Faeces purse? Swine faced cum log?

I think you need to be more specific.

  13. Subtle, this should help swing the vote on the SOE and MW bills, Clayton and especially David will love you for it.

You’ll be pleased to know that due to my pledge to not give the mugging mob any excuses to disrupt threads I won’t post any more comments here – what’s being posted in the comments speaks for itself pretty well anyway.

  14. What a bastard, how dare he take positions contrary to the learned alphas at The Standard.
String the fucker up. Take no prisoners.

    • felix 14.1

      I don’t think anyone’s criticising a position he’s taking in those tweets. He’s just a dick.

edit: Or to put it much better, what Bill said.

  15. hellonearthis 15

Sorry, posting twitter posts like that is not good for my screen reader, would be good to have txt too for the vision impaired readers.

  16. Kotahi Tāne Huna 16

I think I see a fundamental flaw in the Hair’s style: if he is only going to support legislation sponsored by people who respect him, he will have to vote against every bill presented to parliament.

    • Kotahi Tāne Huna 16.1

PS: I’m not sure I can agree with the statement that he is the worst man on Earth: certainly, his Quisling, unprincipled behaviour must make him a legitimate person of interest to the security services, since his vote is not so much for sale as for rent.

However, he will only ever be an enabler of treachery, not the author.

      • felix 16.1.1

Oh yes, he’ll be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.

  17. Roy 17

Dunne’s tweets are proof that maturity does not always come with grey hair. What a childish pillock.

  18. fender 18

The worst hairbrain scheme supporter on our bit of Earth.

Good idea, best hes had ever. Leave this solar system. If having Russell Norman as Minister of Finance warranted leaving this solar system shouldn’t he already be exiting this galaxy due to the muddling through with a broken calculator clown in the job currently.

The weight of that dead grey cat on his head 24/7 has obvious side effects he should seek help for.

When he leaves the planet he better take NAct with him, and that PG guy too.

  19. Wayne 19

I presume most if not all the posters here did actually vote for MMP. All the voters in his electorate knew his position and his role in MMP. Would Labour if it came to that reject his vote as an essential to the government. Opposing him is one thing, but the vitriol here makes you sound like a) poor losers, b)don’t understand MMP.

    • felix 19.1

It’s weird because I do understand mmp, but I still don’t like Peter Dunne.

      How can this be, Wayne?

    • Te Reo Putake 19.2

” All the voters in his electorate knew his position… ”

Citation probably needed for that. Even his most ardent supporter took two days to find any evidence of Dunne’s position on asset sales, which was the defining issue of the last election. And even then, that wasn’t United Future’s formal position, just a throw away remark on a internet Q and A.

Dunne’s defining characteristic is that he has no defining characteristics at all.

  20. captain hook 20

a community radio station would have put the skids under PD years ago plus there would have been decent music too.

  21. vto 21

I thought MPs were supposed to represent their constituency…

All I see there is I, I, and I again. My vote. I heard what you said about me. I this. I that. I wouldn’t have said that. I now take revenge. I, I and I again.

Peter Dunne, it is not your vote. It is your consituents vote, but many of your comments above show that you vote according to who has said nasty things about you. I think you need to go back to school.

  22. Typical blog comments about Dunne:

“he is certainly one of the most useless and overrated, self centred, vain pollies in the world, and for that sake certainly NZ.”
    “achieved exactly NOTHING”
“However, he will only ever be an enabler of treachery”

Expert opinions on one of Dunne’s latest initiatives:

    “revolutionary”.
    “pretty radical.
“New Zealand is the only country in the world going down that path.”
    “22nd-century thinking”

Dunne isn’t universally regarded as the worst man on earth who never does anything.

  23. fatty 23

Dunne represents our democratic MMP system….that is why he is so disgusting.
He has positioned himself in the centre, which is where the main opposition party goes to in order to win.
He is a useless excuse for a person and an MP, but he is created by our system…don’t hate Peter, hate the system.
Our system is not natural. It is created, and Dunne is created by us.

    • As an MP he was actually ‘created’ by FPP.

He adapted successfully to MMP and has survived better than any other small party MP, so he has been very successful under MMP.

People suffering from failure often dislike success, the more the success the greater the hate of it.

“He adapted successfully to MMP and has survived better than any other small party MP, so he has been very successful under MMP.”

Very true…like a disease that adapts to an antibiotic. You call that success.

“People suffering from failure often dislike success, the more the success the greater the hate of it.”

        See above

  24. gnomic 24

Overdunne the worst man on earth? Shurely shome mishtake here? He’s far too insignificant for that title.

Ever heard of the Vicar of Bray?

“And this is law, I will maintain
    Unto my Dying Day, Sir.
    That whatsoever King may reign,
I will be the Vicar of Bray, Sir!”

There was a time when people like this were called turncoats and despised.

Why is this post premised around BigHair retiring anyway? Why would he do that, unless it seemed very likely that the National-lead govt was going to fall and he would no longer be pivotal?

  25. RedBaron 25

Peter does slide around the truth and his actions show he really hates single parents who raise children. Hard to know if it’s the parents or the kids – he doesn’t differentiate.
He has put before parliament a child support amendment bill and it’s basically a horror. He has been totally captured by the male payer of child support who is making a grab at her earnings.

As it stands now, when a relationship breaks down the children are supported by the primary caregiving parent, the non resident parent and the taxpayer with WFF and DPB. Caregiving parents and taxpayers don’t get the choice about support.

So here are some of Peter’s lies:

“Most paying parents pay enough for the children now” – he measured this against a possible amount they may pay with only a single allowance deducted – not the amounts actually being paid, about a quarter of this amount.

“Compensation for the the direct and indirect costs of childcare are paid elsewhere” – news to everybody, where does this happen now???

“Women earn money now” – and they did in 1991 too . No workforce stats to back this one up and no evidence that males are doing more care.

“greater variety of care arrangements” – Really? A family court survey showed 92% of fathers did not even apply for custody of the children. Custody cases are only a few hundred a year.
Any proof they are doing any care?

“parents need to get along” – 70,000 violence callouts a year. Might be safer to assume they don’t, protect the kids and go for clear, fair enforceable arrangements not feel good waffle.

“her income isn’t taken into account” – outright lie. At the 60%-40% shared care both parent incomes are assessed. How many of these does the IRD administer now Peter? Also those doing 60% receive the same money as those doing 100% and children beyond 5 don’t count.

“the IRD will use parenting orders” – means that parents who don’t turn up will be finacially rewarded and parenting order changes will clog the system.

“we will cut the age back to 18” – so the taxpayer and caregivers have to provide support and non caregivers can do so if they feel like it when it suits them. How about some contributions to tertiary education.

“care is shared at 28%” – 28% equates with the standard family court access arrangements of alternate weekends, 3 weeks holiday a year. Elevating the cost of “social care” that can be done on holidays and weekends to equal the remaing 72% of care where work cannot be done without childcare is a nonsense.

“some mothers are more equal than others” – mothers of earlier families are required to support the children so how about the mother of the current family having her income assessed towards her children?
Also males need to be discouraged from having successive families and dumping kids on the taxpayer.

And the really sad thing is that Labour voted for this rubbish. Don’t they realise the extent of their female support I can think of no faster way for them to turn some of their support into non voters.

And there is one other group of people I would like to see have their situation improved. That is the concientious low income paying parent who tries to see their children regularly. If their care of the children goes beyond a minimal amount then why should they not receive some WFF assistance.
