Trav, no. Did you have to wait ages before you thought of calling our Prime Minister to be a twat? Do you even know what a twat is?

    Felix:

Winston isn’t “gone”, nor are his cronies. Much as it may seem otherwise, our politicians exist outside the political sphere. That you “don’t care” that there are still unanswered questions surrounding fisheries, trips to Las Vegas, a small matter of $158,000 and whole pile of manure left behind doesn’t in any way invalidate the need for those matters to be properly investigated and dealt with.

If I’d been old enough to care, I’d have felt the same way about Nixon being pardoned and (ironically) helicoptering his way into wealthy retirement rather than being called to account.

I’ve held positions where I was accountable for public money, and oddly enough never been told that it didn’t matter if I helped myself to a bit provided I resigned (or was sacked) afterwards. I simply think the same standard should apply to our politicians. By admitting you don’t care, you’ve made it plain you don’t. Or is it just politicians who supported the left to whom the exemption applies?

Rex – Winston is a right wing conservative. I’ve not heard one lefty here defend him. There’s hardly a comparison to draw between Nixon and Winston. The police cleared him, the SFO cleared him. The electorate didn’t. He’s gone get over it. As to the union shit. Do you expect us to unanimously condemn any corrupt union person? Should I expect righties to unanimously condemn all corrupt corporates (that would take up all their time)? Where do you get off Rex?

I’m not being xenophobic mate. I am arguing the point that Trav calling JK a twat is not a fact, just like me saying that Trav is a useless immigrant is not a fact; both could be argued for and against. I should point out that I do not think that of Trav, from what I have read of her comments, she has made some fairly valuable contribution to NZ, I think she is a tad bitter about Labour being voted out and is on a NZ is a horrible place full of stupid people rant at the moment though.

    QtR asks:

Should I expect righties to unanimously condemn all corrupt corporates

Yes. Ideology should not make you blind to the transgressions of those who happen to share it.

“I’d like to see him get his own TV show where he can interview journalists, and that’s as far as my interest in him goes.”

haha that is fantastic. I second that.

  7. Quoth the Raven 42

Yes Rex, but there aren’t enough hours in the day to spend condemning every corrupt man.

  8. Rex Widerstrom 43

QtR: Oh quite. Hence my “obsession” with just a handful. I’ll leave the rest to others or I’d never sleep :-D

  9. Felix 44

Rex don’t be such a cock. I’ve never suggested that Winston shouldn’t be investigated, I’m just not emotionally dependent on the outcome.

“there aren’t enough hours in the day to spend condemning every corrupt man.”

Which is why Rex has picked just one.

Sorry Rex but Winston just isn’t very important to most people. Good luck with your crusade.

“Speaking of Young Tories, I saw Simon Bridges running along the waterfront yesterday morning so I checked out his candidate profile – why do so many Tory men pose in pictures with their wives?”

I guess it’s because they’re all closet homosexuals. I thought everyone knew that. Google “The GOP”.

T-Rex suggests some ideas for John Key in terms of posting meaningful achievements as PM:

“1. I increased the average level of education in an entire country.
    2. I improved access to healthcare for an entire country.
    3. I reduced the Gini coefficient in a 1st world country.
    4. I increased net wealth of an entire country.
    5. I furthered New Zealands reputation as a country with a moral code that meant sometime.
    6. I made people on the left of the political spectrum slightly less disgusted that I came to power.”

    My comments:

    1. How can the PM increase “the average level of education in an entire country”? It’s up to individuals who want to be better educated to make the sacrifices of time and money that lead to this outcome, not to the PM to wave a wand and make wishes come true. And there is such a thing as a useful education cf a useless one. The country needs more research scientists and engineers, not a whole lot of losers with liberal arts degrees who are only equipped to become angy social activists.

    2. What about people taking personal responsibility for their lifestyle choices instead of arrogating the right to socialise the costs of poor decision-making onto others in the community?

    3. What about getting New Zealand back into the top half of the OECD?

    4. See above. The only way one increases the net wealth of a country is by empowering the private sector to create that wealth. Low taxes and less red tape is the recipe here, not bigger government. Governments produce nothing and anything they have to give away comes from soaking the productive members of the community.

    5. Furthered New Zealand’s reputation as a country with a moral code that meant something? You mean like legalising prositution and mainstreaming the unnatural behaviour of sodomites by legitimating civil unions?

    5. We won, you lost, eat that! Bwahahahahahahahaha!

Perhaps because it’s culturally important to him? If someone has a partner, of whatever gender, who is an integral part of their life why shouldn’t they be proud of that?

I think you’re referring to his webpage he had for the election. There’s no photo of his wife on candidate profile on the national site?

  14. Phil 49

    Pascal,

    Is that you ‘sod?

  15. Pascal's bookie 50

Phil, nope, the ‘sod has lesser spelling mistakes.
