Alastair Cameron Labour CoS

Alastair Cameron has been appointed Chief of Staff in David Shearer’s Parliamentary office. I’m delighted to hear it; we were on the New Zealand Council together when Alastair was a law student. Along with Jordan Carter, he established Young Labour’s Summer School which has become a significant institution in the Party’s development.

Cameron has worked most recently at MAF, and before that was a senior associate at Buddle Finlay in Wellington, where he was  a public and commercial lawyer with a specialty in climate change. He spent three years as an adviser to Marion Hobbs when she was Environment Minister. He is also a Fulbright Scholar, spending an academic year studying a Master of Laws at New York University from 2005 to 2006. He says it was an amazing experience, academically, culturally and socially.

He is also the Chair of the New Zealand Aids Foundation Trust Board. He’s a very good choice.
