Banks lays down with dogs, Brown comes up smelling of roses

It’s been interesting to watch the Nats’ smear machine switch focus from Len Brown to Andrew Williams in recent days. I guess that’s what you get for letting Cameron Slater become your de facto chief strategist. Slater is taking on Williams for a supercity seat, so he wants to target Williams when the only foe that should matter for the Right is Brown.

Or  (the latest poll has Brown on 27% to John Banks’ 18%, 50% more support).

Certainly, this article in the Herald and the accompanying cartoon won’t help Banks one iota:

Auckland City Mayor John Banks and North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams nearly came to blows at a fiery Super City candidates meeting in a Castor Bay church hall on the North Shore.

“For a moment there I thought there would be mayoral fisticuffs,” said mayoral contender Simon Prast, who said he saw Mr Williams leap from his pew and come within millimetres of Mr Banks.

“It was petty, personal and unbecoming of the office we are all aspiring to,” Mr Prast said.

Several witnesses to Wednesday night’s confrontation said Mr Banks was taking a question from the floor when Mr Williams interjected, telling him to “stop lying”.

Mr Banks retorted, “Stop drinking.”

North Shore ward candidate Chris Darby said Mr Williams went chest-to-chest with Mr Banks, who he said withdrew and went to sit down.

Mayoral candidate Colin Craig said Mr Banks had a vocal, one-eyed support team who constantly interrupted Mr Williams.

“It was extremely childish. There were no punches or anything physical involved other than the two were right in each other’s face.

“It was like two cocks in a cock fight.”

Mayoral candidate Penny Bright said it was a disgraceful display by Mr Banks and his National Party supporters.

Manukau Mayor Len Brown reportedly stepped in to calm things down.

So, Banks and Slater’s team of little rich boys in ill-fitting suits manages to make Brown look good. Nice one.

Yeah but his dogs are mongrels cocking their legs all over democracy and leaving a trail of shite in their wake. Not all dogs are bad. 🙂

    Good fun on a Friday.

  3. Anne 3

So the real John Banks has stood up!

  4. Zippy 4

And Williams turning up pissed and acting aggressivley towards Banks is neither here nor there huh? And now its coming to light that Brown has promised Williams the deputy mayoralty in exchange for getting in Banks face….and we are still waiting for Brown to fess up just who he had at that birthday bash he charged to the ratepayers on Manukau.

    Tsk tsk…

[lprent: And that sounds like a pile of completely made up bollocks. Just another idiot troll..
Yep, I thought so. Lots of warnings and no action. Adding you to the spam list on the basis that you appear to be incapable of learning. ]

Here’s all you need to know about putting John Banks in charge of other people’s money. Him, and Don Brash, for that matter.

IMHO the right don’t give a toss about who the super mayor is, Wodneys engineered it so they’re a pretty lame figurehead with the CCO’s having the dosh and power.

What the mayor can do though is spanner the works so all the more reason the right are running with banks who’s legendary at parking his bently in the works and employing slater just enforces my thinking that the ‘result’ works out OK.

Banks continues to display why he’s way past his use by date so this allows the nat’s to consign him to the political graveyard if he’s unsuccessful whilst calling on his resources to assist future candidates…..thanks banksie for all your hard work, the next generation calls.

Bansky doesn’t need a smear machine to get at Williams – poor Andrew’s completely capable of smearing himself

    • Blighty 8.1

funny how you righties only want to talk about Williams these days. given up the ghost on beating Brown, eh?

I don’t see many here who give a toss about Williams, apart from Slater’s fanboys

      • Tigger 8.1.1

The right’s given up on Banks also by the looks of it.

By the way mr Banks, fix up the alcohol issues in your backyard before critiquing others…

I wasnt going to vote for banks as i feel he is not worthy of the job, how ever neither is brown, because you clowns always make shit left v right rather than who is best for the job, i am voting banks. you lefty bastards do not deserve to be any where near any purse strings again. i know you think you are helping, but its interesting to note, your extreme left wing views and utter bias turn people off, me included.

  10. Jeremy 10

I also have no political leaning per se – well I never use the words leftie or rightie in speech and don’t buy into media hype. Before this election I never knew what C&R was but now know of its influence in Auckland council, where manukau councilors are independent. Yet Len Brown is able to get the the support of his councilors at meetings including after his face slapping speech (evidenced in the local courier) which showed how effective it was.

In the past month of reading blogs (now getting fatigued in following them) I hold the opposite view that the far right bloggers are very nasty in tone and often like to quote things out of context with one blogger almost suggesting Browns campaign team infected his wife with cancer to deflect the credit card fiasco *sigh* the face of Auckland definitely has changed.

  11. Well it certainly sounds as if it is time to desert the sinking ship.

New Zealand is not going to be a good place to be if Labour does not win the next election, but in case it does not we are getting ready to desert now.

I am not interested in living under a Pinochet style regime just so John Keys favored few can have a good life.
