Cameron Slater gets it wrong

Cameron Slater (WhaleOil) gets it wrong again in his post about me today. On the upside he managed to write his post today for once not using any disgusting names. Anyhow, to clear up the issue once and for all, here are my political affiliations.

I was misquoted in the Herald article that Cameron Slater refers to. They asked if I was affiliated to any party, and I said “not currently”, which was true.

I am not a current member of the Labour Party, and haven’t been since 2007. I am thinking about re-joining, however I understand that it breaches the Labour Party constitution to be a member but vote for another party. I have voted party vote Green since I became eligible to vote in 2005. In 2005 I gave my electorate vote to Helen Clark, and in 2008, regrettably I gave my electorate vote to Richard Worth(less).

I support a Left wing coalition government, and would be very much more a Green party supporter than Labour. However there is strategic value to me being involved in Labour (lobbying on animal welfare for example). I also have many friends in the Labour party (largely due to knowing many of them growing up, thanks to Lynn’s long standing involvement with the party).

I was a member of Labour from late 2005 (after the election), until 2007. David Farrar was incorrect when he claimed I was on the Young Labour exec at the time I google bombed John Key’s website with the word “clueless” (more and more accurate by the day!). I resigned from the Young Labour exec in 2007 when I moved to Christchurch to live with my now ex-boyfriend (the spy), as my position was as Auckland rep.

I was a candidate for City Vision (a Labour-Green-Alliance-Independent coalition) in the 2007 Local Body elections in Auckland. I ran for the Eden-Albert community board and was defeated by around 200 votes.

I have been working on David Shearer’s campaign for the Mt Albert By-Election, as I think he is a fantastic candidate.

I hope that clears everything up for Cameron Slater, David Farrar, and anyone else who cares. You now have full disclosure of my political affiliations.
