Without a trace of irony

Written By: - Date published: 7:03 pm, October 1st, 2010 - 20 comments

Rodney Hide has taken a complaint to Parliamentary Services over Phil Twyford EA sending a message from his work email calling on people to vote for Len Brown. Wow, free emails. What a huge abuse of taxpayer cash. Not exactly on the scale of a trip to Disneyland. You’ve got to love Hide’s total lack of self-awareness.

Garrett resigns from ACT

Written By: - Date published: 1:37 pm, September 17th, 2010 - 80 comments

David Garrett has resigned from ACT and has indicated he will almost certainly resign from Parliament. Good, He is a scumbag, a liar, and a hypocrite. He is only resigning because he was caught. Now attention must turn to Rodney Hide. He can’t now pretend to be administering justice when he harbored Garrett and kept […]

Right tastelessly tries to deify Parker

Written By: - Date published: 10:26 am, September 6th, 2010 - 71 comments

It’s the stomach-churning way that some on the Right have decided to try to use the earthquake for political advantage by deifying Bob Parker. Even Parker himself looked sick when Paul Henry compared him to Rudi Giuliani. Update: Farrar, Whaleoil, Henry, and Matthew Hooton are trying to spread a lie that Anderton said only an earthquake could stop him winning the election. Danyl has the truth.

Nats fear flood of justice

Written By: - Date published: 2:31 pm, August 11th, 2010 - 14 comments

Finlayson says that paying compo to women abused by cops would “open the floodgates”. In other words, he reckons all the other claims that would come out of the woodwork would cost too much. What’s right is right. No matter the cost. ‘Floodgates’ is just an admission that the hundreds have been harmed. This government doesn’t have the guts to do right by them.

Key govt turn backs on police sex victims

Written By: - Date published: 5:38 am, August 11th, 2010 - 44 comments

It just gets worse: “The Government has rejected a secret forum’s recommendation that 10 women who alleged sexual misconduct by police officers get reparation.” Sadly, I think this is just the Nats being cheap and unwilling to face their responsibilities. They don’t care about the victims of police abuse, they care about saving a few dollars to pay for tax cuts.

Murdering statistics

Written By: - Date published: 9:36 am, July 12th, 2010 - 16 comments

Something that really boiled my blood a few weeks back, but which I haven’t had a chance to write about yet was this post by National Party pollster David Farrar on the topic of a recent lull in homicides in a single police district. It was the worst kind of politics – a person who knows his argument is false taking advantage of the suffering of people and the ignorance of his audience for petty party political points scoring.

Nat stalking-horse’s attack on Cullen Fund falls flat

Written By: - Date published: 8:48 am, May 10th, 2010 - 23 comments

Michael Littlewood, the Government’s anti-Cullen Fund stalking horse, is back – arguing we should wind up the Cullen Fund. The numbers are clear. The decision to cancel contributions to the Fund has cost New Zealand $48 million so far. If the Fund was canned last June like Littlewood wanted, we would be more than $2.9 billion worse off. Tip: never let this guy help with your home finances.

Hide plays dictator of local government

Written By: - Date published: 12:24 pm, March 28th, 2010 - 79 comments

Andrew Williams, mayor of North Shore, is clearly a bit of an odd-ball. Maybe the people of North Shore simply feel that a bit of public urination is a small price to pay for having a good mayor. I don’t know or care. But it’s outrageous, frankly, to see Hide once again over-stepping the constitutional limitations on his office. It is clear his call for Williams’ resignation is politically motivated.

Nats resort to plants to help Tolley

Written By: - Date published: 11:54 pm, March 11th, 2010 - 57 comments

Let’s face facts. Anne Tolley is a dangerous minister. She is undermining the education system at every turn and the damage will last lifetime. But is National doing the responsible thing and removing her from the portfolio? No. In fact, a guest poster reports they’re so desperate to help her out that they’ve got plants in her audiences to ask patsy questions.

Come Aucklanders – protest tomorrow.

Written By: - Date published: 12:52 pm, March 1st, 2010 - 7 comments

The select committee on Rodney Hides vision of the Auckland Super-City sits in Parnell tommorrow. The National MPs complicit in foisting this idiotic vision of Auckland on us will be there along with the architect – the head of the lunatic Act party.

Spend your lunchtime demonstrating what a crock this version of the super-city is. Do it in Rodney Hide’s Epsom electorate.

Nats lying over firing Aroha’s mum?

Jackie Blue's magical Tardis Electorate Office that both is, and isn't

In yesterday’s Herald Jackie Blue told us she’d sacked the mother of young Aroha because she had to merge offices with Sam Lotu-Iiga. But some investigative work at The Hand Mirror suggests otherwise…

Don’t go, oh mighty Atlas. We’ll give you tax cuts

Written By: - Date published: 1:17 pm, February 2nd, 2010 - 87 comments

So, I’m at a cafe having lunch and there’s some fat middle-aged businessmen having lunch at the table beside me. One of them is talking about Blair’s appearance at the inquiry on the invasion of Iraq and says “all these namby-pambies say ‘oh we shouldn’t have invaded’ but they would have shut up if Saddam […]

Warning: Beware what you say on the net. Humourless bastards are after you.

Written By: - Date published: 1:42 pm, January 21st, 2010 - 23 comments

No Right Turn has a post about the weirdness of the police forces in Britain at present. Elements of our own police force have been acting just as weirdly about ‘terrorism’ over the past years bringing a new era of police stupidity and police doing actions that are subsequently found to be illegal1. Joking about […]

Bigot gets a bashing

Written By: - Date published: 10:39 am, January 17th, 2010 - 70 comments

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow covers the outragous comments by rightwing Christian fundamentalist Pat Robertson on the Haitian earthquake. Great to see this bigot confronted. Need more Maddows in journalism. [First time I’ve embedded from MSNBC. It’s awesome. They let you clip their video just for the parts you want. Fantastic innovation.]

Wishart. Research kiddie.

Written By: - Date published: 5:22 pm, January 11th, 2010 - 62 comments

This is just too funny. One of Ian Wisharts sources in AirCon which he quoted from ‘verbatim’ turns out to have been a kiddies resource from 1999 – which he still mis-interpreted. Gareth at Hot-topic has been tearing apart some of Wisharts recent posturing, and posted this comment Wishart, responding to some prodding, says this […]

Slater’s attention-seeking attack on sex abuse victim

Written By: - Date published: 10:03 am, January 11th, 2010 - 73 comments

So, Slater wants to be a martyr. Fits well with his personal myth of the hard done by battler fighting this PC world. Yes, it must be hard being the son of a former National Party President. Living the welfare queen lifestyle ripping off an insurance company. Daddy always around to bail you out. But […]

A Potty Peer making money off future misery.

Written By: - Date published: 12:10 pm, January 9th, 2010 - 72 comments

Gareth over at Hot-Topic has written a delightful post “Popgun for hire: A$20,000 detailing one person who is making money off climate change. No it isn’t the scientists. It is our favorite Potty Peer – Christopher, Viscount Monckton of Brenchley. Some of the CCDs have been saying that there is a “climate change industry” and […]

Anything substantive to say?

Written By: - Date published: 10:15 pm, January 3rd, 2010 - 25 comments

My assumption whenever I read Cameron John Slater’s trash over at Whale Oil is to assume it’s just that trash. That’s why I don’t bother reading Cameron John Slater’s daily tirade of garbage anymore unless specifically alerted to something (I do have to admit there was a period where I used to read it regularly […]

Phil O’Reilly – dumb enough to fail

Written By: - Date published: 8:51 pm, December 29th, 2009 - 20 comments

Phil O’Reilly  of Business NZ has an opinion piece in the NZ Herald today decrying businesses that trade on the ‘clean and green’ image of New Zealand. He writes as if it is a solely a tourism issue. This is a spin line that David Farrar at Kiwiblog swallows hook, line, and sinker. However the […]

Get rid of the fool.

Written By: - Date published: 5:02 pm, November 30th, 2009 - 36 comments

I haven’t bothered looking too far for reaction to Paul Henry jerking off in public to attract attention to his personaility defect – inflated ego. Against the current had a post that captured my opinion the best – Meet Mr Stupid. This time the victim of Henry’s ‘witty banter’ was British singing Susan Boyle. Henry […]

CCDs. Worms perhaps?

Written By: - Date published: 2:15 pm, November 24th, 2009 - 73 comments

It has been fascinating over the last few days watching the CCDs (Climate Change Deniers) make an another attempt to scale the bastion of scientific thinking and language. In this case someone hacked a copy of decade of e-mails at the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at a insecure University of East Anglia webmail server. There […]

A plague on both your houses

Written By: - Date published: 10:15 am, November 24th, 2009 - 35 comments

So, as far as National and Maori leaders are concerned, it’s a done deal: “Maori Party to support ETS – bill to become law in days”. Unless (as suggested by Eddie) some Maori Party MPs remember their principles and vote against it, National’s ETS will be forced through parliament under urgency. NRT weighs in with […]

What I did on my holidays – by [insert name here]

Written By: - Date published: 11:04 pm, November 20th, 2009 - 38 comments

Ohmigod, after Red Alert informed me that the National MPs had started a blog, I nearly died!!!!!!! And after I’d finished that and resurrected, I went and had a look at it. Yep, I was right. These buggers know nothing about what blogging is about. Some moronic PR flack somewhere (is that a parliamentary crest […]

Total shambles

Written By: - Date published: 10:45 am, November 17th, 2009 - 61 comments

The government’s handling of the ETS is a total shambles at every level. Even their fans at The Herald are pointing out the elephants in the room: Another sorry chapter in emissions farce It is rare that all-party select committees of Parliament cannot agree on some improvements to a Government bill even if some parties […]

I don’t give a shit about Hone. But the lynch mob is interesting.

Written By: - Date published: 2:15 pm, November 14th, 2009 - 74 comments

Whatever argument there is between the hierarchy of the Maori Party and Hone really doesn’t concern me. While I’m sure Kelvin Davis is watching with considerable interest, Hone was elected by the voters up north for being exactly who he is. This isn’t a political row with the over-powering stench of political hypocrisy like recent […]

Stupid stupid stupid

Written By: - Date published: 3:50 pm, November 12th, 2009 - 13 comments

Our government is stupid. Sorry, it’s the only conclusion I can draw. Our government is made up of confused, muddled thinkers incapable of planning further ahead than lunchtime. It would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic. National have decided to “scrap the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy and stop work on vehicle fuel efficiency […]

Laws needs an education

Written By: - Date published: 3:32 pm, November 9th, 2009 - 43 comments

I told myself I’d never do a post on pathetic publicity groupie Michael Laws, so here I am failing to live up to yet another resolution. Sigh. But really, this can’t pass without comment: Boys are failing, and feminism is at fault One of the great triumphs of feminism is education. It is a profession […]

Wee gripes: spineless business

Written By: - Date published: 12:33 pm, October 25th, 2009 - 6 comments

New World has dropped the 5 cent levy on plastic bags in its South Island stores. Plastic bag use was down 65%. Many shoppers support the levy but the CEO says: “the objections were too noisy” Guess we’d better oil the squeakiest wheel then. Even if it means continuing to bugger up our environment. Kind of […]

Nanny wins

Written By: - Date published: 8:22 am, October 25th, 2009 - 21 comments

Remember when the world was going to end because Nanny State was going to make us get compact fluorescent bulbs? It all seems so long ago. Those ignorant, reactionary days of 2008. Now, we’re crazy for the wee blighters. According to the Building Research Association of New Zealand: “84 percent of homes had at least […]

PMs and dictators

Written By: - Date published: 12:49 am, October 23rd, 2009 - 6 comments

While I might not put it quite as vividly as Zetetic, I certainly agree that Carter was very foolish to post anything comparing Key to a dictator. That sort of tactic is National Party territory, we don’t want to go there:
