RIP Graham Brazier, one of New Zealand’s finest.

And for a trip down memory lane …

    • weka 3.1

shouldn’t that be 3 apples and a banana?

      • Clemgeopin 3.1.1

        ??
        What did I write wrong?

        • weka 3.1.1.1

Not you, just for accuracy the pictures of the flags should be 3 apples and a banana 😉

          • Clemgeopin 3.1.1.1.1

Oh, ok! I get it now! Like the manipulated selection by the panel and the cabinet that gave us the Clayton’s choice of 3 ferns and a dull design of Koru! In effect just two choices, or you could say, just ONE in reality!

  2. Clemgeopin 4

What is interesting to me is whatever it is, it is floating! Look at the shadow.
To dismiss this as just an imagination (Pareidolia-seeing things in objects) is strange!

    • Bill 4.1

If you look at the picture ‘right’, you can see the owner of the spoon in the act of throwing it….right hand ‘quarter’ of the picture. Big kinda soup dragon fella (if you’ve ever seen ‘The Clangers’) acting like he didn’t like the taste of whatever was on that spoon. In fact, just looking again, you can see the former contents of the spoon flopping off – direction left from spoon’s end.

      You see it?

      • Clemgeopin 4.1.1

YES!! I see that. Uncanny!! You aren’t Sherlock Holmes by any chance, are you?

Seriously, though, the ‘spoon’ appears to be in the air with a considerable gap between the object and the shadow. That is interesting!

If another picture is taken in the same spot or from a closer distance after a while, it would be interesting.

    “Fleg?….Fleg?….what the fuk’s a Fleg ?”

“Grrrrr….not unrelated to a “Flake”. Get yer fukn hands off….I’m too young to be yer Daddy !”

  4. Muttonbird 7

Y’all know I’m not a changer, but that is only because I am opposed to the process. I felt John Key was pushing this barrow from start to finish.

But what if we could really chose a flag for ourselves instead of being corralled, Crosby-Textor like, into a choice which had already been made for us?

Red Peak has found a following among designers and artists and I think it is beautiful.

Several commentators have made the points that “a well designed flag like Canada’s becomes popular after it is chosen, rather than being chosen out of popularity”, and “aesthetics should lead rather than be dragged down by the lowest common denominator”.

If this campaign and this design (ironically both emerging from the within the headquarters of Rod Drury’s Xero) continue to gain support over the next few days I urge people at The Standard to read carefully these articles on Red Peak, think about what the design means, and wonder why it was not given the space and airtime that Lockwood’s ferns got on the back of John Key’s musings.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/71768480/support-for-red-peak-flag-on-the-rise

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/sep/04/new-zealanders-offered-flag-shortlist-ask-can-we-have-this-one-instead

To be honest with you, I would vote for Red Peak if it were in both the 1st and 2nd referenda.

    • b waghorn 7.1

I hate that flag its all straight lines and block colours there’s no flow .

    • miravox 7.2

I’d definitely vote Red Peak if it was in the first referendum.

But the pre-ordained ferns are all we have. Not that anyone’s very vocal preferences are involved in that decision, oh-noes.

As it is, it will be a choice of spoil the ballot paper or the kid’s pick (they’ll have to live with it longer than I do).

    • weka 7.3

I really like it too, which is a surprise because the politics of Key’s bullshit agenda aside, I found the whole flag changing thing boring.

The explanation about the design is also good, for me has real meaning. But I think there is something beyond that, just intuitively the red peak flag makes sense.

It looks better as a flag than as a 2D design. The description on the govt page doesn’t do it justice.

      • Muttonbird 7.3.1

The description on the govt page doesn’t do it justice.

That’s because the FCP model was horribly flawed and that is where the real waste of money happened.

The space between the presentation of the 40 and the selection of the four was too short, the discussion about each design was non existent from them and the point you just made proves that, and then the FCP’s collection of public feeling was non transparent and interfered with by John Key doing fucking Facebook posts about what he wanted!!!

The FCP just chose what he directed them to chose.

    • maui 7.4

Can’t help but think it’s some kind of signal flag, and I’m not sure what it’s trying to signal…

    • James 7.5

Did you turn up at any of the panel discussions Mc Flock?

      • Weepus beard 7.5.1

I assume you are talking to me but got confused.

The FCP clearly failed in its objective because no one showed up to those meetings.

I have heaps of info, but the stringent rules tell me to shut my mouth!

I have NO more hope in NZ. as it is a corrupt system here anyway, I have alll the proof, so I wait to be silenced.

Good luck to the refugees who do not know the lies within this system. They need good luck, given the many lies in Nz!
