He's gonna take over Gaza now. All the Palestinians will be thrown out and he's gonna turn it into another beautiful Riviera for all the world's rich people?

Albanese had already reitetated Australia's support for a 2-state solution in response.

      Has Baldie said anything?

Probably would be along the lines "what I say to you, it's about economic growth".

Not as far as I know. He's gone to ground somewhere in the South Island so he can avoid Waitangi. He's got to have time to wait and see what everybody else is saying before he says anything. 😉

    Go long on these things…

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appears likely to soon be taking the helm as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The Senate Finance committee voted along party lines, 14-13, to favorably report his nomination to the full Senate.

How do we kill the myth of crazed NZ Govt C*VID stimulus spending? All the data to test the assumption that we went nuts relative to other countries is easily available now.

    . Let's have a look at a few angles… [🧵1/n]

Excellent Joe. Those debt to GDP figures say it all. And NZ had 18000 fewer deaths than the UK on a pro rata basis despite reining in spending much better than the UK during Covid.

This needs to be said at the election.

      I really must join Bluesky.

The Guardian does a fairly comprehensive report on the greeting of government onto the Waitangi marae today.

Turned backs, a large-scale emptying of the marae by Māori, Seymour's mike taken away twice, Shame Jones threatening to remove Waitangi marae funding for this event…It's all there, folks.
Great to see 'changing it up' tactics by the Māori community.

‘The Ngāti Wai leader responsible for removing the microphone, Aperahama Edwards, told the NZ Herald that Seymour had been asked not to speak at Waitangi and that his presence caused discomfort.

“When he didn’t listen, I took the microphone,” Edwards said.’

Roads and yet more spent on roads. And the impact on the government budget

Central and local governments need to weigh up the cost of insurance versus investment to offset New Zealand's high risk of natural disasters and a changing climate, the Infrastructure Commission says.

"On an inflation-adjusted, per-person basis, public infrastructure is now worth 70 percent more that it was in 1990. So, the cost of replacing it after a natural disaster is rising at the same time as the likelihood of a disaster is rising," he said.

"It's more important than ever to make good decisions about when and how to reduce risks and minimise costs."

He said the last review of insurance coverage for public assets was undertaken more than 10 years ago and found less than half of public assets were insured.

Pat at BHN interviews Haimoana, one of the Treaty 'defacers' at Te Papa. From 10 min, with Chewie's intro.

When asked about ACT's political manoeuvres, Haimoana said "we really are witnessing… that our system is in decline. We have a systemic problem we need systemic change you're not going to get that from changing the people in government unless we have people in government who are advocating for a systemic change…Māori lead that and I think M can take Pākeha non-Māori through that walk, make sure they're safe so that they don't get freaked out."
