    Typically, right-wing Australian commenter, Luke Malpass, takes a cynical view of New Zealand's stellar Covid-19 response.

    He frames domestic and international praise for the Prime Minister as "political reward". I think that's what confuses me most about conservatives and reactionaries such as Malpass. The view that JA did it for political reward and not out of concern for Kiwis.

    Luke Malpass, being an expat himself, is up in arms about other expats’ movements being restricted. He's up in arms about a temporary flight ban from a country which has no idea about Covid-19 and simply doesn't care about its people. A country which is exporting Covid-19 to New Zealand, via expats.

    Newsflash, Luke. It's a pandemic…

            It cracks me up that me pointing out she hasn't actually achieved anything other than publicity some how now means I hate her, or at least think of her with some sort of malice.

            I think it comes down to some people/posters thinking you have to agree 100% with everything they think, or you are some how "the enemy"

              I’m curious to know what information led you to form your opinion that Thunberg’s has achieved nothing apart from publicity, and why you felt the need to ‘voice‘ your erroneous opinion.

              And, now that others have pointed out some of Thunberg's many achievements other than publicity, you've modified your view, right?

              Isn't that a fairly basic test of intelligence – the ability to modify one's views when supplied with ‘new‘ information?

                  Under the 2nd of April post "Greta Thunberg is now 18", in his reply to a comment about Thunberg's achievements, Chris T wrote @1.1 (1:38 pm):

                  After being educated about just one of Thunberg's many other achievements ("Fair play to her there. I wasn't aware of the donation."), Chris T doubled down on another frankly stupid claim:

                  In his comments under Weka's "We are sailing" post (31 August 2019), Chris T had also expressed his doubts about Thunberg and her 'methods', but eventually replied (to Weka):

                  For what it is worth, if it raises awareness from what wasn't already there it is a good thing whatever the questionable emission saving way she is doing it.

                      There was another school strike for change on Friday. That would not have happened if not for Greta Thunberg.

                      No one has done more to lift the profile of climate change action than Greta Thunberg. I suspect this is why you are so triggered by her.

                      I say there was not much coverage in the news about it.

                      You ask for proof of something that doesn't exist. Coverage to show this.

                      I can't give you something that didn't happen.

                      I guess you are not going to give me examples of mass coverage, which would exist if I was wrong as you just feel I need to banned for some reason.

                  The curious thing I have always found about Muttonbirds false claim about knowing me from another forum, is forums work by emails and IPs.

                  Both of which are specified as securely kept by most forums and not shared.

                  So if a person did know IP or emails between forums it would be extremely dodgy.

                  One of the government's ‘jobs‘ – on occasion. If two governmental roles/functions are in conflict, a wise government will know when to compromise, and when to make a hard call. Businesses make hard calls all the time, and we should expect no less of our governments, imho.

                  The classic functions of government are nation-building, defence, maintaining law and order, creating conditions for wealth accumulation, and some core functions such as taxation and monetary issues, security, environment, education, health, investment and trade and infrastructure.

                  Oh Chris, get a grip. If you enter into a business you need to do your homework. Unless you are a fly by nighter, you need to plan, have contingencies, insurance for unforeseeable (covid) and relationships with agencies, customers, transport. Its not a job to sit on your hands and wait for someone to help because you haven't done what it takes to actually build a business. No one said its easy. Regardless of what government is in office.
