Typically, right-wing Australian commenter, Luke Malpass, takes a cynical view of New Zealand's stellar Covid-19 response.

He frames domestic and international praise for the Prime Minister as "political reward". I think that's what confuses me most about conservatives and reactionaries such as Malpass. The view that JA did it for political reward and not out of concern for Kiwis.

Luke Malpass, being an expat himself, is up in arms about other expats’ movements being restricted. He's up in arms about a temporary flight ban from a country which has no idea about Covid-19 and simply doesn't care about its people. A country which is exporting Covid-19 to New Zealand, via expats.

    Newsflash, Luke. It's a pandemic…

Herr Doktor doesn't seem as big a fan of free speech as previously made out.

You aren't getting this it is ok to argue against what someone says, but this doesn't mean it's o try to stop them actually doing it, do you?

That should be Red Exoskeleton, rather than Skull, surely?

Peterson is the self aggrandizing blowhard who only eats red meat because he is such a manly man. Became a junkie when under stress himself, despite decades of sneering at the inferiority of other drug users. Thinks that human society should be modeled on Lobsters' hierarchies that show deference to the largest and most aggressive posturing males. Daddy to a flock of Incel devotees tied to various domestic terrorist acts in Canada.

Didn't think he was still relevant enough to mock.

He obviously still triggers your "sensitive space"

It would appear we all have our Greta. devil

          • Chris T 2.2.1.1.1

It cracks me up that me pointing out she hasn't actually achieved anything other than publicity some how now means I hate her, or at least think of her with some sort of malice.

I think it comes down to some people/posters thinking you have to agree 100% with everything they think, or you are some how "the enemy"

            • gsays 2.2.1.1.1.1

Less your last sentence, more the amount of times, you felt the need to prosecute the same small point.

            • Drowsy M. Kram 2.2.1.1.1.2

It cracks me up that me pointing out she hasn't actually achieved anything other than publicity…

I’m curious to know what information led you to form your opinion that Thunberg’s has achieved nothing apart from publicity, and why you felt the need to ‘voice‘ your erroneous opinion.

And, now that others have pointed out some of Thunberg's many achievements other than publicity, you've modified your view, right?

Isn't that a fairly basic test of intelligence – the ability to modify one's views when supplied with ‘new‘ information?

              • Chris T

I voiced my opinion because people keep bringing her up in posts directed at me.

If you don't like it, don't do it.

                • Drowsy M. Kram

I [Chris T] voiced my opinion because people keep bringing her [Thunberg] up in posts directed at me.

If you don't like it, don't do it.

But I do like it Chris T, because every time you 'voice' your opinions is another opportunity to critique and highlight the shallow, self-serving points of view that you and your ilk are so well known for.

                  Let's review.

Under the 2nd of April post "Greta Thunberg is now 18", in his reply to a comment about Thunberg's achievements, Chris T wrote @1.1 (1:38 pm):

Apart from a lot of publicity, not sure what all the achievements you mention are.

After being educated about just one of Thunberg's many other achievements ("Fair play to her there. I wasn't aware of the donation."), Chris T doubled down on another frankly stupid claim:

I still think that part of her "scare the kids to dath" publicity campaign is frankly stupid.

In his comments under Weka's "We are sailing" post (31 August 2019), Chris T had also expressed his doubts about Thunberg and her 'methods', but eventually replied (to Weka):

                  Fair call

For what it is worth, if it raises awareness from what wasn't already there it is a good thing whatever the questionable emission saving way she is doing it.

It's a fair call to say that Chris T has a 'problem' with Thunberg, and "old habits die hard" laugh

                  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greta_Thunberg#Honours_and_awards

                  • Chris T

I am flattered by your obvious fixation with me.

But I need to say that if you are a dude, I am more into girls.

Apologies if this gives you a bit of a downer over the weekend.

We can still be mates and stuff, just don't touch me.

Edit: and I stand by everything I have said about Thunberg. Which has obviously kept you awake at night working on your spreadsheet of my posts over it.

Would it annoy you if I created a Thunberg has done “Not much” meme profile picture?

As I am beginning to think it would be quite funny.

                    • Muttonbird

No one is fixated with you.

There was another school strike for change on Friday. That would not have happened if not for Greta Thunberg.

No one has done more to lift the profile of climate change action than Greta Thunberg. I suspect this is why you are so triggered by her.

                    • Chris T

What practical effect are the school strikes having again?

Edit: Btw. I give you enough credit to think you noticed it got pretty much zero coverage in the news.

                      [You are trolling again 🙁

… pretty much zero coverage in the news

This is meaningless BS with only one purpose in mind. Of course, being a fair Moderator, I give you a chance to explain yourself and it better be good. You’re in Pre-Mod until you come up with a decent and constructive response or until I move you to the ban list – Incognito]

I get you want to ban me.

But you are asking for evidence of something that can't be given.

I say there was not much coverage in the news about it.

You ask for proof of something that doesn't exist. Coverage to show this.

I can't give you something that didn't happen.

I guess you are not going to give me examples of mass coverage, which would exist if I was wrong as you just feel I need to banned for some reason.

If it is more than just this I would appreciate a reason at some stage

                      Thanks

Edit: I am just going by personally watching the news and web which didn’t have much coverage. Again. As you would know is not provable, unless you did the same and agreed.

[Listen up, Chris T, you’re wasting our and my time here with your trolling so yes, I want to ban you, but you make it so easy!

Of course, it did happen and it does exist (https://www.schoolstrike4climate.nz/).

There’s plenty of coverage in the NZ MSM about it, which you seem to deny for some strange reason. I could give you some links but then I’d be doing your job; the onus is on you to find these and present them here.

The fact that you insist that these don’t exist and did not happen strongly suggests that you’re indeed a disingenuous troll.

Now, prove me wrong or spend time in the troll bubble – Incognito]

                    • Chris T

I cannot prove that there was not massive news coverage, as you can't prove something that didn't happen.

Did you watch the news and have examples of big coverage?

[Hang on! You have changed from “pretty much zero coverage in the news” to “massive news coverage” and “big coverage”. The hallmark of a stupid troll.

I have a feeling you’ll be spending a long time in the troll bubble, but fair is fair, you can still pull a miracle and save your sorry troll butt for another week – Incognito]

You have an issue with me and are the only one who keeps doing it, apart from lPrent once.

I get it. You have a personal dislike that has carried into your modding role.

To be fair. I was impressed with your speed at hiding and then releasing my answers.

                      It was quite impressive.

It is the system that does most of it. It has been designed to work this way. It works well. Moderators just eat popcorn and watch. Easiest job in the world, except for being a Landlord, and infinitely more rewarding when the job is done. Start your own blog and you’ll know what I mean 😉

                    • Chris T

Was pretty cool. You post and it disappears and then reappears.

I'm not patient enough to start my own.

Any way. Tell me the ban you personally need me to have over an off the cuff probably stupidly worded comment you found offensive in amongst the other peoples ones, because it happened to be me.

                    • Incognito []

No, no, no! You don’t get a ban for “an off the cuff probably stupidly worded comment [I] found offensive”. You receive a ban for your whole recent troll oeuvre and because you did not comply with the Mod notes.

                    • Chris T

Fair enough my only mod that keeps banning me.

If you want to roll with that cool.

                    • Incognito []

If you want to roll with that cool.

No, no, no! This is entirely your own doing. Despite plenty of warnings and requests, you double down and keeping running towards the cliff’s edge. Not smart choices, not smart decisions, and definitely not smart actions, on your behalf. If you really insist that this is my choice & doing I’m having to double the ban 🙁 You wouldn’t want that, would you?

                    • Chris T

As much as it pains my very point of existence, with the thought of not being able to post on here again. In fact t may even shatter my universe, I don't have a huge amount of say in your personal grudge against me, so hey? Go for your life.

                    • Incognito []

Well, you can answer this: do you think this ban is self-inflicted or not?

                    • Incognito []

Well, then answer this: do you think this ban is self-inflicted or imposed on you because of my personal bias towards you? Be very careful with your answer.

                    • Chris T

                      No

Think it is personal, given the history, and the amount of selective picking of posts in amongst others similar.

                      But that is fine.

You are the mod and as such, you get to weild the axe as you want.

Think it is better to have good mods who have the odd personal grudge than shit mods or none.

                    • Incognito []

Of course, I play a role in this. Doh!

One characteristic of repeat offenders and trolls here is that they never take any responsibility for their actions and consequences. Always the nasty Mods have done it to them. They play such good victims!

                    • Chris T

I haven't denied that my comments might have been dumb.

I can put a disclaimer on every post I make apologising if people get distraught over it, if it helps.

If this is the excuse to ban me for every post you personally think is dumb I make then she is a bit of lost cause. Especially given others posts do not seem to be as scrutinised.

Everyone types the odd dumb thing.

                    • Incognito []

Dumb? That’s it? Others such as Morrissey call it “careless choice of words”. Playing dumb is such a pathetic excuse when it is crystal clear that you are all but dumb. Similarly, ignorance is not an excuse either, FFS!

                    • Chris T

                      BTW

You trying to twist it to me somehow playing the victim is quite funny.

                    • Incognito []

You’re right, this is an exercise in futility because you resist all attempts. Maybe you’re dumb after all …

                    • Chris T

                      Attempts to agree with you?

                      Probably not going to happen.

Forgive me for not sucking up.

If it helps I think you are super duper awesome, even though I am right and you are wrong.

                    • Incognito []

At least you have a wry sense of humour 🙂

                      laugh A truly desperate response.

I am, however, a little concerned about your Thunberg fixation.

I stand by everything I have said about Thunberg.

As I have said, she has brought a lot of global publicity to a cause we need to worry about. But that is it.

Fair play to her there. I wasn't aware of the donation.

You're aware now, Chris T, of the 1 million euro prize that Thunberg donated to charities, and yet continue to stand by your multiple statements that Thunberg has achieved nothing other than publicity.

That's nonsensical. You can’t be that simple – can you?

I am beginning to think I could be on here for about 20 years and people would still be bringing up Thunberg.

                      Lol

Gezes. I don't personally think she has achieved the accolades given, has slightly tweaked her own rules travelling.

                      Get over it.

                    • Incognito []

In all likelihood, Greta Thunberg is going to make waves for a while.

I know Christ t from another forum.

                      Massive and un-bluntable ego.

                • Chris T

The curious thing I have always found about Muttonbirds false claim about knowing me from another forum, is forums work by emails and IPs.

Both of which are specified as securely kept by most forums and not shared.

So if a person did know IP or emails between forums it would be extremely dodgy.

I am not acussing Muttonbirds of anything, but he seems to have a chip on his shoulder over something, while wrong, would also break everyones agreements if right,

                  Just saying

                  • Incognito

Another way of recognising commenters on different forums is by their comments, e.g. when they’re lazy and do copy & paste jobs. Nothing dodgy, just plain stupidity.

                    • Muttonbird

Yes. Use of language, specific language, and obsession with particular subject matter.

                • Chris T

Just realised the irony of me being banned for talking about Thunberg after someone else brought her up, while no mods do anything about posters accusing others of being on different forums

Like a kitten with a string of wool, trolls cannot help but hang themselves with a bit of rope lying around.

Hard case, the host wasn't shy to screw up her face at product she wasn't keen on.

The Punakaiki Pilsner is worth a takeaway. Don'y dilly dally, as they have stopped brewing and there are limited stocks.

It's heartening to see, that despite apples left to rot on the ground, supermarkets can still charge up to $5 a kilo for the fruit.

    Edit, sarc.

He seems to have headed for the hills lately after the RSE cockup.

it is worthwhile pointing out, that the two biggest packhouses in hawkes bay have plenty of staff, good staff accomodation and satisfied customers with no apples rotting on ground.

      • David 4.2.1

Obviously these growers have it all wrong then. Glad to hear at least two out of hundreds have it sorted though.

Like interest deduction changes weeding out poor landlords dependent on high debt, Covid restrictions are weeding out poor growers dependent on cheap foreign labour.

          Build back better.

          • David 4.2.1.1.1

Yeah, yeah … food waste. It’s awesome. Big ups to the Government.

            • Muttonbird 4.2.1.1.1.1

It's not the government's job to pick apples.

Or would you like them to run industry..?

              • Chris T

It is the govts job to support small business.

As much as the current one seems to hate horticulturalists and landlords

                • Drowsy M. Kram

It is the govts job to support small business.

One of the government's ‘jobs‘ – on occasion. If two governmental roles/functions are in conflict, a wise government will know when to compromise, and when to make a hard call. Businesses make hard calls all the time, and we should expect no less of our governments, imho.

The classic functions of government are nation-building, defence, maintaining law and order, creating conditions for wealth accumulation, and some core functions such as taxation and monetary issues, security, environment, education, health, investment and trade and infrastructure.

                • Foreign waka

Oh Chris, get a grip. If you enter into a business you need to do your homework. Unless you are a fly by nighter, you need to plan, have contingencies, insurance for unforeseeable (covid) and relationships with agencies, customers, transport. Its not a job to sit on your hands and wait for someone to help because you haven't done what it takes to actually build a business. No one said its easy. Regardless of what government is in office.

            • Patricia Bremner 4.2.1.1.1.2

Those growers could have allowed people to "pick their own" with guidance. Food does not have to go to waste, and rot.

That to me is "Making a Political point"

              • Chris T

Maybe it is a city thing, but it is quite funny you think people need to pick apples with "guidance " (what? to avoid the poisonous ones?), or they are doing pick your own as they always have.

I think you need to get a lot bigger in your mental picture of volume being wasted.

Pick your own is standard of lots of things

We aren't talking "Dave and Sheila" not buying their kilo of apples so they rot.

                • Patricia Bremner

So they don't damage the trees!! We have been told it is a skilled job!!

Perhaps piggeries would welcome the apples?

You sir a just a mansplainer, telling a country girl how to suck eggs.

                  • Chris T

                    Lol

                    Sorry mate

I am just used to rocking up, picking a few apples, paying for them and leaving.

Apologies. I just didn't get the supervised bit.
