      I say,

      1. Wiles didn't break any level 4 rules
      2. her friend is part of her bubble
      3. they're socially distanced from other people outside their bubble
      4. she biked the 5km to the beach

      I also say.

      1. Judith Collins seems desperate. That or she doesn't know the L4 rules, or that people have bikes
      2. Nat using Dirty Politics so blatantly should be a wake up call for the left (video is apparently from Slater's blog)
      • weka 1.1.1

otoh, ignore the Dirty Politics and focus on the stuff that helps people manage and feel good under a really stressful situation. This is what our politics should look like,

Correct – the only thing I'd accuse her of is naivety about how the right will be gunning for her as a supporter of the elimination policy.

Anything that can be spun as a deviation from the rules will be. So not wearing a mask outside even when there aren't many people around, or letting your friend go for a swim without trying everything short of physical restraint to dissuade them, is a risk.

The right have only Gorman to do their 'prof-washing' for them – so they'll clearly be after Wiles or Baker etc. if they get a chance.

And more broadly, the charge of hypocrisy is a powerful weapon the right can use against the left. The right is luckier – not believing in anything other than self-enrichment by any legal means available, takes hypocrisy out of play.

        • Gus the bus 1.1.2.1

          Got the message.

we have been naively keeping ourselves to ourselves, wearing our masks, walking everywhere and keeping out of the water based on the advice of experts to keep COVID out. Our kids are missing their friends, withdrawn and totally not themselves. All to keep COVID out. Trusting the experts.

Then we see the experts with a friend at the beach, maskless, sunbathing, in the water.

but I’ve got this wrong. She is right. She is the expert. I am wrong.

[you patently haven’t got the message. You’re out for two days, while this issue settles down. If you come back, please understand we expect people to not troll, and to not make shit up. I don’t know what point you are trying to make here, but given that Dirty Politics just kicked off again, I’m going to err on the side of protecting TS from that. If you genuinely don’t understand what the rules are, next time speak straight and make your points clearly. – weka]

I saw the reference, "right-wing websites, including one run by Cameron Slater."

I thought that Slater had suffered a stroke and was under the impression that was put forward as grounds for him to be treated leniently by the legal system when he had 'some issues.'

Does anyone know how the stroke handicapped him?

        • Gezza 1.1.3.1

My wife had a stroke at the age of 30. It happened right in front of me as we were chatting over coffees at the dining table. She suddenly started slurring her words and quickly became unintelligible, and fell out of her chair onto the ground.

The ambos were there in 20 minutes.& she was in Wellington Hospital within the hour, after being stabilised en route. She remembered nothing of the event and the ambulance trip.

She woke up shortly afterward (they might have given her something, I don't remember). One side of her face drooped and she had lost the use of the limbs on one side of her body.

I stayed with her till 11 pm and returned early the next day, all the while engaging her in somewhat halting conversation and she began to get the use of her arm and hand quite quickly. They gave her a rubber ball to squeeze and told me to carry on doing what I was doing.

The stroke turned out thankfully to be a mild one & we managed to get her out of bed & mobile the next day. Her speech returned to normal & the droop disappeared. We just kept up the intensive exercising and ball squeezing and she recovered completely within 3 weeks.

Whaleoil staff were posting updates about Cam & although they were a bit cryptic, reading between the lines I remember thinking that he had likely had a similar mild stroke and had probably recovered relatively quickly.

          Just my guess though.

    • Patricia Bremner 1.2

      Gus the Bus.

One lady cares deeply about people.

The other cares about herself and used Slater to do "hit jobs" before. He ended up in court.

Slater has spied on Dr. Siouxsie Wiles, filmed her and provided that to Judith Collins apparently, who has shared it on right wing blogs.

Stating she had broken L4 because she met a friend (who it happens lives alone and needed support, so is included in Siouxsie's bubble).

Judith Collins proceeds to call Dr Siouxsie Wiles "a big fat hypocrite" Wow!! This is someone who wants to be PM saying this!! Her added "I'm sick of her telling us what to do" Judith did not follow L4 because "I am an essential worker you know!!"

So what is a virologist in a pandemic?????? I think you should look in the mirror Judith.

    • bwaghorn 1.3

Fuck i hate the national party,

    • Leighton 1.4

What in the name of hell is she doing? She should have made sure she was absolutely watertight before going nuclear on the New Zealander of the Year who is universally beloved except for the angry misogynist far right. This is anything but watertight. She has lost the plot.

      • In Vino 1.4.1

No, you're exaggerating, and you have.

        • Leighton 1.4.1.1

Ok then, let's see how the "Attack Souxsie Wiles" plan plays out in the crucial 45+ white female demographic that Judith so far can't crack for love nor money. My bet is "not well".

          • Graeme 1.4.1.1.1

Yep, glory days… National and ACT scrapping over the incel vote.

And to the 45+ white female demographic, my bluer than blue SIL posted this on her facecloth today

          • In Vino 1.4.1.1.2

Sorry – I now realise that I agree with you. I misunderstood who 'she' was in the earlier comment.

I wonder if we will ever follow the example of Denmark?

All the domestic restrictions are being scrapped, as of today. There are Covid 19 deaths but they are at about half the level of the Flu deaths that happen each year in New Zealand.

I wonder when we get our vaccination rate up to the level Denmark has will we be allowed to go free? Probably not, I fear. It would certainly help with our economic future. Robbo is taking us from a Government debt of about 19% of GDP to an expected level of 54% in 2024.

The current Government are having too much fun I'm afraid

Hamlet – I'm sorry – alwyn – why don't we just wait to see how it turns out? I remember similar nonsense spouted about Sweden's great policy.

The reason for the Hamlet reference? You keep coming to this site with what you think is corrective argument.

      Denmark reminded me of Hamlet:

'The time is out of joint. Oh cursed spite, that ever I was born to set it right!'

No bias to the right in you, is there?

    • weka 6.3

So you want to go back to pre-covi flu death rates plus covid deaths?

This is a fairly major turn of events! A NZNO that acts as a union to empower rather herd its members – with any luck.

A board member who resigned in protest has been elected as the new leader of the Nurses' Organisation…

In a statement at the time, they said to remain would be condoning behaviour they knew did not meet members' standards.

Daniels said she believes the union has gone through an immense change since then, as shown by the fact its current negotiations for contracts are member-led.
