TV3 Management are a gang of highly paid, idiotic, prejudiced, clueless, corporate RWNut jobs with lots of dough (including 43 Million dollar tax payer bail out given by this National Government to prop up the private interests of the corporates rather than the interest of the common people! ), but not much of brains, fairness or guts! A disgrace of a fourth estate, a supposed fourth pillar of democracy!

Action Station have a little survey going and one of the topics is around broadcasting .

    • Lanthanide 1.2

Without showing the ratings 3 news was getting in the 2-3 weeks before Campbell Live ended, the stats shown here have no context.

      • Clemgeopin 1.2.1

So, why don’t you do that then?

Here is the website for the ratings. Just type the dates you need in the search function.

        http://www.throng.co.nz/

        You are welcome!

        • Lanthanide 1.2.1.1

Same reason I didn’t make your comment in the first place – it doesn’t interest me.

          • Clemgeopin 1.2.1.1.1

You showed you were interested in the ‘context’.

            • Lanthanide 1.2.1.1.1.1

I am interested in *your* mis-use of statistical information, not the information itself.

You’re asking me to print the information instead, but actually I don’t care about the information, and if I printed it, I wouldn’t have mis-used it as you did.

              • Clemgeopin

I don’t agree with your interpretation.

The title of my comment CLEARLY states,

                “TV RATINGS
From Ratings website, http://www.throng.co.nz/ , from the last day of Campbell Live, Fri 29 May up to date.”

I did not mis-use anything. I delivered what my title said.

It is up to you to show how I ‘mis-used’ the statistics. Go on, provide the stats for the ‘2 to 3 weeks prior’ that YOU are complaining about and accusing me of neglecting, causing you to conclude that I am ‘misusing’ the information.

Go on, put up something, to make your whinging/interpretation/conclusion/judgement meaningful/valid. Here is the source:

Kind’ve with Lanth on this one.

You provided a collection of statistics that you obviously think implies something.

But looking at the stats just at the point of change, without a decent dataset before that change, is misleading. Even if you provide a link to the root of a website, the intial impression might create a preconception that affects impartial interpretation of all the relevant data. This is misleading.

                  • Clemgeopin

“the intial impression might create a preconception that affects impartial interpretation of all the relevant data. This is misleading”

Correct it then, with facts and figures!

                    • McFlock

                      why bother?

When you do it tomorrow or next week, you can provide sufficient data to support the case you want to make.

      • Ergo Robertina 1.2.2

Nonsense. That period could be unusual because of attention focused on TV3 and the Campbell Live review.
Anyone interested in the matter knows the context, which is that TV1 news out-rated 3 long before the CL fiasco.
What’s interesting is that dumping its network-defining broadcaster has prompted a big viewer backlash, and perhaps Clem should be digging out Prime News figures for regular comparison:
        http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=11461802

Take a look at these stats and see if that gives a context to my comment/point of view. Does it?

        http://thestandard.org.nz/the-tv3-boycott/#comment-1029718

        • Lanthanide 1.2.3.1

Those stats only cover the 7-7:30pm segment, not the 6-7pm news hour slot that the stats above are showing.

No-one is the least bit surprised that re-runs of Road Cops are rating lower than CL did. It was never expected retain CL’s audience because it is a different product.

Good to hear Sue Bradford is still working on the left wing think tank (it was mentioned in the Labour thread).

    The Right Running Scared
Yesterday was May Day, where Libertarians and Capitalists erupt into guilty rage at Communists and Socialist for reminding the World of the old truth that private property can only be created through oppression and by killing other people. No one can own the Earth, but they’re afraid people will find that out, too. Basically they’re scared of all the lies they’ve told humanity being found out, and will kill anyone who reminds them. Nice bunch.

European parliament fails to endorse TTIP talks

Parliamentary leaders had hoped to agree on a resolution Wednesday backing the European Commission in the talks — and trumpeted the recent approval of a fragile compromise in its International Trade Committee (INTA) as a sign that negotiations could at last move forward. Although Parliament’s approval is not essential at this stage, it is considered vital for the project’s success.

Instead, strong opposition from many members of the Socialists & Democrats (S&D) group and pressure from non-governmental organizations opposed to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) made a broader agreement impossible to achieve before Wednesday’s planned vote.

Investor protection clauses seem to be the reason for the disquiet over the agreement.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/timaru-herald/news/69268582/south-canterbury-finance-investors-raise-enough-to-continue-legal-investigation

No shit they have raised enough. They got paid out 700 million by Blinglish with no questions asked. Plenty of spare cash in South Canterbury…but still they want more.

The only good that might come out of such an investigation is that the National government might be held to account for the rushed, dead-of-the-night payout without any recourse to the illegal activities of SCF at the time.

What’s the bet such an investigation will be shut down?

Why I believe it is time for labour to adopt a policy that strikes fear in the eyes of most politicians

Given the way that labour are polling at the moment it is self evident that national needs to have a catastrophic failure or labour needs to bring some bold form of policies to the table to gain some traction in the polls

The fact of the matter is that most of the laws that get passed will have a majority of public favor but every now and then a “smacking your child ” or “asset sales” issue arises. At moments like these politicians need to take the back seat and let overwhelmingly definitive public opinion decide the outcome(binding referendums). To sell any public assets without public consent (the owners) is sugar coated theft in my opinion

There would be multiple benefits to the party in my opinion

    1) Longevity, the party that cant be blamed for bad policy or poor decision making will retain its position for longer

    2) Removes the common us and them mentality, By integrating the people with the decision making it will make the public feel more connected to the party.

    3) Plenty of time, If the public don’t like the idea just drop it and forget about and it wont even be a bleep on the radar by next election

4)Transparency and trustworthy. It strengthens the labour brand by lifting its integrity

5)AND THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, It shows there will be some form of accountability for politicians if they make “sky city shonkey type deals” something the country desperately requires and something i believe it desires

I don’t think that many laws would actually be contested but the ones that are obviously should be. I think the threshold should be lifted to a higher standard of say 65-70 % to ensure there is less unrest amongst the people. I think it would swing a lot of center voters who are sick of having laws thrust down their throat or people that are tired of seeing poor decisions run rampant. Labour was a revolution to New Zealand democracy when it was formed let it be a revolution to democracy again

Complex comment. Voluntary euthanasia is one issue that may qualify. But a 65% threshold may mean that not much will happen.

Has the National Government done a cost-benefit analysis on the TPPA?
Malaysia have commissioned such a study. “TPPA study to be ready by end-July, says Mustapa”
“The minister also stated that the outcome of the analysis would be made public, including the text for discussion, while being open for debate in Parliament before a decision is made on the TPPA.”
    http://www.thestar.com.my/Business/Business-News/2015/06/10/TPPA-study-to-be-ready-by-endJuly/?style=biz

    Note the word ”
    before”.
Meanwhile, any debate in Parliament here will only be after Tim Groser has signed.

New TPP leak reveals plan to ‘cripple New Zealand’s strong public healthcare programme’.
    https://wikileaks.org/tpp/healthcare/

Today, Wednesday 10 June 2015, WikiLeaks publishes the Healthcare Annex to the secret draft “Transparency” Chapter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), along with each country’s negotiating position. The Healthcare Annex seeks to regulate state schemes for medicines and medical devices. It forces healthcare authorities to give big pharmaceutical companies more information about national decisions on public access to medicine, and grants corporations greater powers to challenge decisions they perceive as harmful to their interests.

Expert policy analysis, published by WikiLeaks today, shows that the Annex appears to be designed to cripple New Zealand’s strong public healthcare programme and to inhibit the adoption of similar programmes in developing countries. The Annex will also tie the hands of the US Congress in its ability to pursue reforms of the Medicare programme.
