    Love that cartoon! So true.

Has Kathryn Ryan just outed herself as a true blue raver this morning with her rant on Nine to Noon……………….. https://www.radionz.co.nz/audio/player?audio_id=2018685992

    • tc 2.1

Comes as no surprise the way she gifts soapboxes to ranting right whingers.

Just sits back whilst they spin their bs with virtually zero intervention. Griffin approved.

  3. THAT CLIP SHOULD BE ON THE FRONT OF EVERY NEWSPAPER !!!

All those far right wing dorks need to have their noses firmly rubbed in it.

    Again and again and again.

Scandinavia is the way we must go , as that was the way we once were.

Before the traitor Douglas ‘Rogered’ this nation.

Oil and gas exports account for 50% of their exports and 20% of their GDP. Is it not a country with a very bleak future?

    Supermarket plastic bags?
Our local supermarket reports that over 600 of their shopping baskets are missing. There only 22 left to be recycled. Seems that those who forget to bring their own bags just pinch the baskets and take them home.
Bet they didn’t expect that to happen.
    Unintended consequences?

    • adam 4.1

As they not one of the 7 corporations destroying the planet – of course they should take the baskets.

Plastic bags, another sad joke of incremental b.s. whilst we burn.

      • greywarshark 4.1.1

        Adam
Don’t be such a sad sack. What little thing are you doing to show solidarity?
        Or is that Socialism?

And i don’t see how people can walk off with their shopping baskets, in well run places you can see. Whereas the shopping trolleys end up all over the place. Supermarkets like being told where they are by the way. They are costly.
My supermarket keeps all their wine cartons etc for those who forget and occasionally give away quite decent looking bags.

        • adam 4.1.1.1

          “sad sack” projecting much greyarshark…

I don’t own a car, nor do I buy from the 7 corporations.

How about you greyarshark? Anything but b.s incrementalism and sweet bugger all? Or is it the usual crap from the centre left, put downs to keep your silly little project of business as usual, going?

        • WeTheBleeple 4.1.1.2

I’d gps the baskets and wander round catching them all for free. Nothing like catching so called ‘butter wouldn’t melt in my mouth’ wealthy types as the petty self-entitled thieves they are. Set up a (digital) hall of shame. The Hotel industry could probably out 90% of them as such.

      • Molly 4.1.2

Agree with you on the symbolism – and not much else – of the plastic bag move.

Also think there should have been some thought given to those who are on strict budgets for whom the $2 bags on offer are $2 too much. A return of the brown paper bags or similar should have occurred at the same time as the removal of the plastic.

    • Ed1 4.2

Supermarkets near me do not allow the small baskets to leave the store – the staff find a trolley. At least one supermarket has locks on trolley that prevent wheels from turning if they are pushed past the car-park boundary. One supermarket has a large bin near the door where a charitable group puts “Boomerang Bags” – they use surplus fabric and sew re-usable shopping bags which can be taken home and brought back (and yes quite a few do not come back quickly!).

    ouch!

“n a recent revelation, published in the respectably obscure scientific journal Knock Knock Who’s There Science Science Who Too Late, a team of experts from the University of Atlantis released their analysis of what ultimately caused Mars to become a barren dustbowl of shattered galactic dreams: entirely avoidable environmental disaster coupled with unresponsive conservative governance.

Lead researcher on the project, Dr. Philemin, explains.

“While the fossil record on the red planet appears to have been mostly destroyed by the last Martian governments, who went to some lengths to attempt to hide the scale of their stupidity from eternity, we still managed to turn up compelling evidence that these guys knew this shit was coming. But they chose not to act because: dividends. Those weekend houses on Phobos don’t pay for themselves, it would seem.” ”

This is absolutely unacceptable in NZ (I don’t care what year it is): https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/111177933/kidscan-helps-heal-heartbreak-in-early-childhood-centres

Time for the PM to step it up and introduce meals for children at school, by decree if necessary, and it is. Dammit, we had free milk, hot cocoa and NOT ONE child went hungry when I was at school. But then that was before rampant Neo-liberalism, idiotic political ideology and a sycophantic media took over.

No more bloody excuses……………. It’s the “Kiwi way of life”……yeah right

    • greywarshark 6.1

Before the cold eyes of Nat politicians and prating finger-pointing, equal-opportunity hating set in. No sex here we’re British sort of thing also.
And people saying they shouldn’t have children if they can’t afford them.

Yeah read that too. Just given, but shouldn’t rely on charity

The media: again, the media is key. No one has said it better than Monseñor Romero of El Salvador, who just before he was assassinated 25 years ago warned, “The corruption of the press is part of our sad reality, and it reveals the complicity of the oligarchy.” Sadly, that is also true of the media situation in America today. https://www.ellsberg.net/public-accuracy-press-release/

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTqVNKXZYAY

“I call them Vichy journalists – after the Vichy government that served and enabled the German occupation of wartime France.

Last October, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation journalist Sarah Ferguson interviewed Hillary Clinton, over whom she fawned as “the icon for your generation”.

This was the same Clinton who threatened to “obliterate totally” Iran and, who, as US secretary of State in 2011, was one of the instigators of the invasion and destruction of Libya as a modern state, with the loss of 40,000 lives. Like the invasion of Iraq, it was based on lies.” http://johnpilger.com/articles/the-urgency-of-bringing-julian-assange-home

I had planned to put the following up earlier, but was taken out by a wave of depression at the Orwellian Nature of journalism, and the bleak truth that even those folk in the street who don’t actually believe or care whether Corbyn is an anti semite; appear to be just relieved at the prospect of Corbyn and his policies disappearing.
A sentiment especially strong among the so called Left leaning NZers one reads on blogs like the Standard, and your average, supposedly Liberal/progressive Labour voter.

Its hard to know where to begin, but it certainly points to a Press and journalism well suited to serving the interests/politics/agenda’s of its owners.

We also searched the ProQuest database for UK newspaper articles containing:

      ‘Labour Party’ and ‘anti-semitism’ before 1 May 2015 = 5,347 hits

      ‘Labour Party’ and ‘anti-semitism’ after 1 May 2015 = 13,921 hits

The archive begins in 1980, which means that more than twice as many articles have included these terms in the last four years than in the 35 years from 1980 until May 2015 when Corbyn stood for the Labour leadership.
