    Question for MS
Has Materia lied to the NZ Bar and if so does that bring into question all the work she has undertaken as a lawyer since.

I have been watching a lots of Suits so I stand to be corrected on this.

On a second issue has anyone ask where Graham McCreddy stands on this?
    I think not!

“Has Materia lied to the NZ Bar ”

I hate to stand up for her – but what would the lie be? I doubt there is anything there.

On a second issue has anyone ask where Graham McCreddy stands on this?

hahahahaha – Im guessing we will hear nothing. Which is good

    • mickysavage 1.2

I don’t know the details of when she was admitted to the bar but the certificate of character that is needed is provided by the law society not her. And all she has to declare is that she is the person in the law society certificate.

The ranks of lawyers are full of people who committed youthful indiscretions, believe me.

Graeme Edgeler has tweeted that Turei could have been mistaken that she got something she was entitled to: ie. there is so far no hard evidence.

      GE tweeted:

We don’t know @metiria received a benefit she wasn’t entitled to. May have been entitled to same accommodation supplement once rent reduced.

      And he tweeted this:

The “(maybe)” is there as, given the way the accommodation supplement works, it’s possible Turei would have been entitled to same amount.

    • Do you misspell Maori names because you’re dyslexic or because you’re a racist? Oh, wait, you can’t spell Pakeha names either – dyslexic it is, then.

  2. Whispering Kate 2

Maybe vulnerable people should get the requisite numbers up and get a class action going against the Government for not providing them with enough in their benefits to provide the necessities of life. A warm dry house, food for their families and a job which pays a living wage is a pipe dream for these people. It is obvious the benefit hasn”t kept up with the rate of inflation and its also obvious that the government has deliberately kept the benefit at a punitive harsh rate so hopefully, in their ignorance it may encourage people out to work. Odd that, there isn’t much work that pays a living wage either so they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.

What a shit of a future these vulnerable people have, living off the charity of others to keep a meal on the table. We certainly are not a civilized country when vulnerable unemployed, physically and mentally unwell people have to beg or go cap in hand to places like the Mission to augment their paltry benefit. I think I read somewhere a person in the UK took the government to court – I say bring it on.

  3. James 3

“Maybe vulnerable people should get the requisite numbers up and get a class action going against the Government for not providing them with enough in their benefits to provide the necessities of life.”

That’s one of the most stupid things I have ever read on here.

    • To someone who assumes the government has no welfare obligations to the citizenry, sure. Thing is, the existence of a welfare system kind of predisposes that the government has welfare obligations to the citizenry, which makes Whispering Kate’s comment anything but stupid.

Oh look, Sir John Key has been awarded Australia’s highest honour. How surprising… just weeks before the General Election.

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11891823

    • James 4.1

      That’s fantastic. Good on him.

    • NZJester 4.2

I was just typing it up at the same time as you.
He is being honored for letting Australia slowly remove the rights of and rip off the hard working Kiwi’s living in Australia denied access to services they are forced to pay taxes to fund.

  5. NZJester 5

Key will be appointed an honorary Companion in the Order of Australia in Canberra for his “eminent service to Australia-New Zealand relations”.

So apparently letting Australia slowly remove the rights of your citizens living in their country and allowing Australia to make them pay for services they can now no longer access them selves will get you and Australian honour.
