  1. Looks like JLR is staying with support from Dotcom

    • SPC 1.1

Staying on (the wanna enact the waka jumping law to get rid of me – something the caucus would have a serious argument about play) and throwing off a Friday hand grenade (affair with a fellow MP) as MP’s return to their family homes for the weekend.

      • Gabby 1.1.1

So I guess there’s now another MP touching cloth. The stoolie, the fornicator, who’s next?

    • Carolyn_Nth 1.2

I saw that KDC had tweeted an offer to back JLR a couple of days ago.

So KDC is not really a Leftie, and it’s all about money, (alpha) men and power.

      • SPC 1.2.1

More a case of sticking it to the National Party (former government) for their co-operation with the Americans

        • Anne 1.2.1.1

Yes. My immediate reaction too. Revenge for what John Key and accomplices did to him. And JLR is purported to know where the bodies are buried!

      • Rosemary McDonald 1.2.2

“So KDC is not really a Leftie, and it’s all about money, (alpha) men and power.”

        Careful Carolyn_Nth.

I recall typing almost the same thing back then and being shot down in flames. The general consensus in the ‘left’ or ‘progressive’ camps being that the Mighty Kim, Fearless Defender of Free Speech etc etc, is above criticism.

Finally being seen for what he truly is.

Good things take time, I guess.

        • Carolyn_Nth 1.2.2.1

Heh. He’s been badly treated by NZ-US state authorities. But he’s always looked like a right wing ultra capitalist libertarian to me. And it’s all about wealth and power.

          • SPC 1.2.2.1.1

Except that the libertarian capitalist can and here does co-exist with Snowden, Wiki-Leaks, Greenwald who with free media (supposedly) hold power to account (the imperial deep state and associated authoritarian nation states), and thus there is here common cause with some on the left.

            • Carolyn_Nth 1.2.2.1.1.1

Some libertarian capitalists (which is a bit of a contradiction in terms), have contributed to worthy causes on occasions. But that doesn’t mean they are the kind of people to further left wing causes if they had political power – totally the opposite.

And this can especially be seen in KDC offering support to JLR – a guy who is very happy for money to buy political influence, and who is racist in his approach to talking about some of the Nats supporters, and is also a bit of a misogynist.

It looks to me that JLR has been getting some PR coaching in the last couple of days. He’s probably been told to tone down the arrogance, and admit to affairs – so the apologies to wife, etc today.

But he hasn’t really said anything much more of substance, except that he isn’t yet resigning from parliament – and he’s still trying to damage more Nats – wanting to name names, etc. The recording he’s released doesn’t say much, and has been pretty carefully edited – we haven’t been given the full conversation.

But it is highly likely that behind JLR is the Lusk faction whose aim is to replace the balance of power in the Nats’ caucus, with those more supportive of a far right leader.

I see reports on twitter that in the last couple of days WO has been promoting Collins as the solution to the Nats current problems. And some suspect Lusk has penned some of these posts.

It’s a mistake to start cheering the likes of JLR and KDC because it looks like they’ve given some nasty Nats a bloody nose.

Be careful what you wish for.

              • Anne

It’s a mistake to start cheering the likes of JLR and KDC because it looks like they’ve given some nasty Nats a bloody nose.

                Hear hear.

                • Carolyn_Nth

                  Oh. yeah.

And now Melanie Reid and Casss Mson at Newsroom have just published another report of interviews with 2 women who worked for JLR and claim he was very abusive and undermining to them:

                  https://www.newsroom.co.nz/2018/10/19/284377/death-by-1000-cuts-working-for-jami-lee-ross

Ross would tell staff to their faces that they were useless and not allow them to speak to one another.

“He would say ‘Are you serious? But I thought you went to university. You’re so useless’.”

Second-guessing herself, she would research her alleged mistakes in the Economist Style Guide and find she had done nothing wrong.

Once he even threw a phone across the room because she’d bought the wrong paper to make name tags.

Ross made no attempts to hide what the woman describes as “constantly creepy” behaviour towards women – something she didn’t have to deal with personally, as she wasn’t “his type”.

He would lavish attention on beautiful women at events and ignore everyone else.

“He’d ask us ‘What do you think of that one?’

“He liked blonde, skinny, beautiful women … he was always kind and friendly in public.”

                  Another woman said:

“He’d make sleazy, sexual comments about me while I was in the room – always when men were around, never directly to me. Once he said to a 60-year-old guy: ‘She’s about young enough for you’.

“He also made comments on my attire. I usually wore dresses, but once I wore pants and he made it clear that he didn’t like the look on me. I rarely wore them again.

“He would complain about my ‘sub-par’ work, and my work is anything but ‘sub-par’.

And the Nats’ hierarchy must have known what he was like, and still promoted him.

                  • Chris

Ironically it’s Melanie Reid’s investigation on the back of metoo that’s sparked Ross into exposing the underbelly.

                  • One Two

‘Promotions’ and ‘accolades’ are given to the corrupted…the compromised…

Easier to keep in line…and ensures the darkests secrets remain hidden…and the evil deeds in motion…

It is the world around us all…

          • Yes I think the libertarian bit confuses people.

    • millsy 1.3

Well they have something in common. Full of shit and a total fucking waste of space. thanks

  2. It was a year ago today
    When Winston decided to play
He’d been going in and out of style
Best choice by a country mile

So let me introduce to you

    Some wonderful memories

    Yay

“Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s partner Clarke Gayford has released never seen before photos of the moment NZ First Leader Winston Peters picked Labour as his Coalition Government partner.”

    From the wtff file….

“Foreman allegedly refused entry into building site for being female

A female foreman was allegedly denied entry to the building site she worked at, solely on the grounds of being a female.

The incident allegedly happened at the construction site for a new school in Northland, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Tonga o Hokianga.

An engineer, also female, who worked on the project during its design phase, contacted the Herald after she was told the female foreman had been denied access.

She provided the Herald with a screenshot of the minutes of a meeting where the issue had been raised.

“PM noted the MOE [Ministry of Education] had contacted the complainant who arrived on-site to discuss the kura’s request that no women are permitted on site,” the meeting minutes said.

Now, someone was mocking identity politics earlier….

So, amidst teacher shortages and falling standards of education (as evidenced by the headline) not one, but four kura demand that females are not to be allowed on the building sites of new schools.

It is not clear if it is all females or just females in positions of authority.

Someone needs to go and have quiet chat with these folks, maybe avoid an embarrassing HRC complaints process?

      Hey JC.

I know this is a terrible time for the families of these people, and for DOC, and for the NZ environment but is it usual for police to come out so quickly with a statement that nothing suggests foul play?

I’m not saying there was foul play but there’s nothing left of that machine and I’m wondering how a country police superintendent knows enough about aviation disasters to rule out foul play so early.

Wouldn’t CAA inspectors be better positioned to do that?
