Appears along with international commentary the general public in NZ are slowly waking up to what a wonderful PM we have in Jacinda Ardern. Its may not be snowing but the leaves are hung with tears.

    • Peter 1.1

The general public in NZ? Except for the general public who hate just about everything the PM does? Daily online you can find moronic attacks.

It’s almost a stone cold certainty that when next Ministerial expenses for the duration are released she’ll be attacked for spending more than usual because of trips to Christchurch.

And no surprise if there’s comment about her being an ‘absent mother’ or some other dumb criticism of her poor mothering effort in being away from her child so much.

  2. Ms Fargo 2

At last the voice of reason re ACC cover for those poor folk who assisted people at the mosques, on the roadside, at ED. Mental trauma under the ACC Act does not only apply to people assaulted, train drivers etc. These heroes will use sick leave and pay for Dr appointments from their own pockets. Please change the ACC Act.

  3. Both Labour & the Natzi’s have failed to do anything about our lax Gun Law’s hopefully Jacinda can bring the gun totting NZF Party into line and get some changes to the laws done quick smart.

With 1.5 million guns registered in NZ for a population of 4.5 million that is one (1) gun per three (3) people, let alone accounting for the unregistered weapons.

    Who are the enemy ?

We really do have some stupid politicans in this country ?

    • BM 3.1

Calling the National party Natzi’s could be considered hate speech now.

Be careful someone doesn’t report you.

      • Sam 3.1.1

The National Party of Aotearoa New Zealand should be really proud of its Iwi vs Kiwi campaigns right now, it’s far right UN migration pact campaign. Why shouldn’t The Leader of The National Party have every right to walk around with his head held high on such a record, I assume, bamboosalls you.

      • Skunk Weed 3.1.2

Happy to have it moderated especially with the sensitivity over the debarcale on Friday in Christchurch, I still don’t understand why the Pollies were not up with the play or the NZ Police for that matter ?

Have we all got rose tinted glasses on here in NZ, the politicans, NZ Police, Security Services seem very blaise about the Gangs & Drug Problems here in NZ.

The Asian Drug Cartels have got a foothold in this country and are distributing through the NZ Gangs like the Rebels/Head Hunters/Tribesmen etc. South Auckland is awash with P methamphetamine at present.

$’s to donuts this Clown in Christchurch was on Methamphetamine P ?

        • Sam 3.1.2.1

Jacinda and her cabinet has decided to reform New Zealand’s gun laws with immediate effect. At the same time National has pledged support for post March 15 reforms and pulled it race baiting UN migration pact campaign because they know which side of history they want to be on. Only a few dedicated and hardline history sanitisers fail to comprehend which side they ought to be on.

      • Stuart Munro. 3.1.3

Better to call them Gnats – measures their IQ and irritation factor. The Nazis changed the world – I’m not sure the Gnats can even change their underwear.

      • Gabby 3.1.4

        That’d be a BMmer.

  4. Jacinda holding NZ’s reputation together.

Time for NZ Security Services and NZ Police to up their game, NZ Gangs and Drugs are out of control, gang drug murders every week these days ?

      • Skunk Weed 4.1.1

I am aware of 3 drug related shootings in Auckland in the past 3 weeks however I am rapt things are improving ?

        • WeTheBleeple 4.1.1.1

Three weeks does not paint the picture over time. It might point to local escalation between factions. Have you researched it?

    • Cinny 4.2

100% agree SW. Especially with 3.1.2, unsure about murder numbers in relation, but mos def would be assaults happening all the time over it.

This bit….’Asian Drug Cartels’, absolutely in agreement on that paragraph especially.

I am hopeful for change however, in the next couple of years I do believe it will happen.

      • WeTheBleeple 4.2.1

I agree with a clampdown. I do not agree that gangs are on the rise under this government specifically that is highly inaccurate. You’ll find poverty is a gang recruitment driver, which this government is trying to address. Likewise institutionalised racism, minimisation, breakdown of community, isolation, imprisonment…

Broken society produces broken people. National spent nine years telling everyone they were either winners or worthless.

The reality was scumbag opportunists fleecing everyone else. Lobbyists for wealthy halting gun laws and drug reform. Govt itself wiping out counselling, refuges, assistance, community organisations…

Now, labor got to get over their neoliberal experiment, but they are not a crime generating party, national are, and they love a good pile on war to show their guts.

        Get some guts they say.

National, wreckers and haters since forever.

Good points. The last has pertinence because my sister was in charge of the Salvation Army’s Auckland Bethany. A place for at risk young women who were pregnant to be nurtured away from malevolent influences – including gangs.

They had many hair raising incidents involving the latter coming there and using intimidating behavior,… I was that concerned I got her permission to teach the lady’s ( these peaceful gentle and mainly middle aged women staff ! ) Japanese Jujutsu arm restraint techniques… it was obvious the Salvation Army could not hold the premises due to the destructive neo liberal John Key govt,… and after a few years including my sister appearing on TV discussing this,…. Bethany was closed down… after a century and more active service ,…

So ,… where do those young women go now ?… well I suppose some other place…

The neo liberal ChiNational party ,… the party for scumbags.

Rob Muldoon would be turning in his grave.

Who employed Barclay? Who recommended him? What agency was paid a large sum? to pick him off the grapevine? Will they refund the money they received as he wasn’t fit for the task, and his salary? Do they have some way of checking with past employees?

I remember in Alex the business cartoon from The Telegraph, Alex is very P.o.
with an agency he employs to phone from Tokyo or such to enquire if he works at his agency and their opinion of him, or seeks to speak to Human Resources, as if he was being headhunted. But they messed up in phoning twice in a month which was a dead giveaway. You can’t get good help these days.

    • WeTheBleeple 5.2

I looked up his bio. Another series of failures and excuses by some muppet who thinks they’re skilled when reality is they kind of suck.

He glommed onto Goff and blew smoke up his ass.

Just read an alternative position for Egg Boy.
He was wrong on two counts according to this writer:.
    1. By egging the nasty Anning, ” it will only excite far-right extremists further and fuel their perverse sense of victimhood.

Instead of being frozen out of the mainstream and consigned to impotence and irrelevancy they are now riding high on a wave of publicity thanks to this dumb stunt and re-equipped with the figleaf argument that it is they who are under attack.”

    2. It also demeans the gravity of the threat we face.

Is this really how we’re going to combat terrorism and extremism? A fight between good and evil determined by which side can throw the most food at the other?….

…Worse, it’s exactly the same type of dumb logic the terrorists and extremists use.
And what other weapons are permissible in this war? Tomatoes? Potatoes? Potato guns? BB guns?”

Oh what a good way to end filthy wars. By having a sticky food fight instead and lots of us getting egg on our faces.
Many a true word spoken in jest. And wars can be held in poor countries as so often they are now, and the food that is left can be eaten by the inhabitants while it is still in edible condition and the rest composted and some fast growing vegetables grown in it. Apparently squashes are good in rawish compost according to a youtube session I watched today. With surprising ease we will get through our next vital twenty years with ideas like these popping up.

That person deserves a seat at the High Table.

      • WILD KATIPO 6.1.1

Remember the Dunedin University engineers wars with flour bombs, eggs and rolled up newspapers?

Now that’s CLASS. All wars should be fought that way.

I wish I could get an old archival you tube clip of them. They looked like fun !

        🙂

    • WeTheBleeple 6.2

Lame old people aye. He was a kid watching his so called representation act like a piece of shit, an egg is totally an awesome response. Did the ‘gravitas of the situation’ require a mallet? A stern e-mail?

Panties in your bunch over an egg. WTF is wrong with old people. It’s the knife edge, its a fine line…. really? Piss off.

A 17 year old kid feeling powerless from an old asshole takes his power back. Now he will drown in free concerts and beer and babes.

A good story in all the shit.

Go read the many foreign countries papers who loved it. Google has translate. And how many of them got some relief from that perhaps, and laughed instead of writing angry posts demanding blood as others have done.

Fraser is a 19 vote blunder, and soon he is gone.

      • Graeme 6.2.1

Well I hope Anning doesn’t show his scone over here, the chooks won’t be able to keep up

        • greywarshark 6.2.1.1

We could give him a real Kiwi welcome. Not with a kiwi but a kea which would chew his ear off, pull out all the hairs left on his bald head, and peck at his
          squatters’ class tie-pin.

Anning doesn’t like Australian flora and fauna apparently. He’d positively hate ours and run off home, alternatively spitting and squawking himself as the kea chased him and practised one of their unpleasant dietary practices. That is pecking at animals backs for a high-fat and protein diet from their livers I think.

    • Prickles 6.3

Ianmac this opinion piece was first published in the Sydney Morning herald and written by Joe Hildebrand. Many of the comments below it suggested that it wasn’t really worth the time spent reading it.

      • ianmac 6.3.1

Thanks Prickles. Wasn’t there a lamington squashed on a NZ candidates head in mid speech more than 10 years ago and the “victim” didn’t hesitate in his speech. An Act chap I think.

“Former Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy said the response of officials to Muslims over what they see as a growing threat to them had been “diabolical”.”
    https://thespinoff.co.nz/politics/20-03-2019/10-years-of-public-spy-documents-and-no-mention-of-white-supremacist-threats/

Traditional meaning of diabolical: “caused by the Devil”. You can imagine the discussions that were had: “mumble, mumble, details, mumble mumble”.

“Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has yet to release the terms of reference for the inquiry, and whether it will take the form of a Royal Commission, a public inquiry or a ministerial inquiry. But Ms Ardern has said it will look into the specific circumstances that lead to the mosque attacks and what the relevant agencies knew about the individual and the accused’s activities, including his travel movements and usage of social media usage. It will cover SIS, the GCSB, NZ Police, Customs and Immigration.”

Devin Nunes’ cow is a big meany.

Co-sponsor of the ‘Discouraging Frivolous Lawsuits Act’ brings lawsuit against people who are mean to him online

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., is very mad that people make fun of him on Twitter.

He’s so mad, in fact, that he’s bringing a $250-plus million defamation lawsuit against the social media company and his Twitter antagonists, including accounts titled “Devin Nunes’ Mom” and “Devin Nunes’ Cow.”

    […]

Examples of the indignities suffered by the congressman include that someone “hijacked Nunes’ name, falsely impersonated Nunes’ mother, and created and maintained an account on Twitter (@DevinNunesMom) for the sole purpose of attacking, defaming, disparaging and demeaning Nunes.”

    […]

The fake “mom” account has since been suspended by Twitter.

Another account, “Devin Nunes’ Cow,” called the congressman a “treasonous cowpoke” and an “udder-ly worthless” felon. This account is still active.

Both the “mom” and the “cow” accounts are listed as defendants in the California lawmaker’s lawsuit.

That’s great. Thanks for the laugh.

      We must be careful though.

Cow parodies. Then chicken parodies. Then eggs.

      It’s a slippery slope.

Overseas dude with nothing to do with NZ thinks *we* *must* hold trial of gunman in an open court. I think we should shut out all media.

    https://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2018687482/christchurch-mosque-shooter-must-be-tried-in-open-court-lawyer

    • McFlock 9.1

Not so sure about that – court reporters do have an important role.

But the practise at his arringment was pretty got, albeit some unedited photos got out. Maybe have a pool photographer, or if the photos that got leaked can be traced back to source maybe bar them from future appearances.

The more important problem is how to stop a fuckwit “representing” himself from gloating at witnesses of his crimes, be it murder or sexual assault or whatever. But tech might help there – have prerecorded questions vetted by the judge or presented in writing, and supplementaries can be muted and vetted. Makes it longer, but limits the ability to gloat or make speeches. Dunno hoe legal it is though – probably not…

      • WeTheBleeple 9.1.1

Make his court appearance via video relay – not even let out of prison for it. No public just that sad wanker in his cell talking to a monitor that is going to spell out how the rest of his life is fucked.

        Excellent.

    • Sabine 9.2

i actually think the public has a right to know.
