      Yep. Thumbs up!

    • Ad 1.2

Only Gordon Campbell could warm up his own ideological colonic to such a gut-meltingly happy temperature that he was insensate enough to tap out this sorry list of excuses.

We just lost 9 points and all that sorry moist-left turdbucket can do is serve up a Sunday morning Domino's pizza crust of staleness that blames the media for the government's own failures.

      • I Feel Love 1.2.1

What failures? All that community transmission running rapid at the moment? The economy collapsing? The long lines outside WINZ? The hospitals over filled and overwhelmed? The rest homes over flowing with dead bodies? The freezer morgue trucks? Get some perspective (though I love your prose, fun to read).

      • anker 1.2.2

Oh for Pete's sake Ad. Campbell’a political allegiance is with the Greens.

I have seen Campbell really rip into Labour, but when he does he uses rational arguments and good information e.g. early on in the pandemic he was writing a lot about the shortage of ventilators. Fortunately because of the Govts hard and early stance, to do we didn't need them.

The Govt has succeeded in preventing community transmission (no cases in hospital from the community thing is the best bit of evidence for this). We have cases from the border securely isolated. They acted ultra swiftly when the breaches were identified.

Name any other country in the world you rather be in at the minute. Check the Covid19 worldometer and see how far down the list NZ is in terms of numbers deaths etc………

Yes we lost 9 points. That was to be expected. Tonight more news from the CB poll that NZders still overwhelmingly support our Covid response.

Tonight I read that our economy is bouncing back well. Please get a grip. Having said this I am fond of your contribution here.

        • OnceWasTim 1.2.2.1

          +1

Strewth! Its as if Gordon put itchy powder in Ad's undies drawer at the old people's home. And here's me thinking sometimes I go over the top a little bit!

"After all, it hasn’t been by accident that this country has become a safe haven in a world of carnage. It has been the direct result of the actions taken by the same people now being denigrated "

sums it up pretty well….and expecting quality journalism from our MSM is something of a forlorn hope

  1. Ianmac, Yes wonderful. Also Winnie's "Spray and walk away" to Woodhouse Lol vintage Winnie

I noted today that as a result of Victoria's far more obvious 'stuff-ups' that have led to the virus spreading from quaratined travellers in Melbourne hotels to security staff, presumably fratinising with them without proper potection, and from there into the communtiy that the federal government has now belatedly decided that all states must test all quarantined travellers twice (like NZ) before release. Until now, it's been up to those quarantined to have a test if they had any symptoms. A third of Melbourne quarantiners refused to have any tests and they weren't enforced. What is surprising considering the overreaction by the Nats and media in NZ is that the normally rabid Aussie media and rabid Aussie politicans have not used the stuff-ups and uptick in communtiy transmission to berate the Labor led Victorian government. In fact, quite the contrary, other states have offered help with testing, even ScoMo has been very supportive and generous. It's just been seen as an exercise in learning about how to deal with complacency and changing strategies as the fight agaisnt the virus proceeds. But then,Oz isn't in the throes of an election campaign which one party cannot win without changing the narrative of success to one of 'national disgrace' as Gordon Campbell has pointed out.

"But then, Oz isn't in the throes of an election campaign which one party cannot win without changing the narrative of success to one of 'national disgrace'…"

So true – old news, but I'm pleased that MBIE is funding a project to sequence the Covid-19 genomes of all NZ cases, which will aid in determining coronavirus transmission chains.

In other news, is this the start of a second wave?

Kiwi shoppers are being reminded to shop as they normally do and not stockpile, as some Australians go back to coronavirus panic buying.

A spike in Covid-19 cases in Victoria on Tuesday led to some people stocking up on essential items across the state, with a handful of Woolworths stores experiencing "elevated demand" for toilet paper.

In New Zealand, Countdown has also noticed higher-than-usual demand for some products, such as baking staples.

  3. OECD gives NZ a big vote of confidence for post-COVID recovery

    detailed report here

"The policy response to COVID-19 has been timely, substantial and well coordinated. The fiscal response package amounting to NZD 12.1 billion (4% of GDP) announced on 17 March was followed up by a NZD 50 billion fund announced in the May 2020 Budget, of which about NZD 30 billion has already been allocated. Major support measures include a large wage subsidy scheme…, a loan guarantee scheme for SMEs … [long list of measures redacted] … These measures are helping to preserve jobs and prevent viable firms from going bankrupt."

Someone should make sure the Govt. use it in every TV, newspaper and radio ad.

Include them on posters, pamphlets, bill boards and brandish them at every press conference,

Because one thing is for sure. If the media continue on their present path, they are NOT going to inform the public in any meaningful way. In fact, most won’t inform the public at all.

    • Gabby 5.3

The OECD are A NATIONAL DISGRACE.

  5. Westiechick 6

Goodbye Anne Tolley. I remember when you finished off community education when you first got in. Night classes where people learnt, advanced, and connected. A huge loss to save, was it $15 million or was it $9 million? so much less than the waste of your team on the flag referendum, the Saudi sheep farm etc. And national standards. Thanks for that. The attack on state schools and kids. I remember my friend’s son with learning disability, who worked hard and progressed yet had to be given a did not achieve on everything related to his year group. Took a lot to bring him back from that. Enjoy retirement and stay there.
