Because….you couldn’t make this shit up.

An argument to overturn the conviction of a former Stanford University swimmer who was found guilty of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman is in the hands of a California appeals court, which must consider whether “sexual outercourse” made a difference in the case.

    […]

When Turner was found on top of the woman, who was also unconscious and half-naked, he was fully clothed and did not have his genitals exposed. Attorney Eric Multhaup argued that Turner was engaged in “sexual outercourse” and did not demonstrate that he intended to rape the victim, according to NBC Bay Area.

Multhaup described “outercourse” as an activity that does not involve vaginal sex and as a “version of safe sex.”

My thought was which half was naked? And what does naked mean in the USA? Does it mean only wearing underwear, without some outer clothing, or not any clothes? If someone strokes you when you are unconscious and don’t know it, is that assault, if so is it first or second or third class assault if they have such classifications?

Cannabis – medical use. I wonder why National have produced a Bill of their own instead of just co-operating to get what seems a reasonable and humane one passed by Parliament? Is it because they only ever want to pass legislation that is likely to benefit some business that funds them? I see that Scoop have looked at how much Big Pharma gets in the USA from it.

It will be good for NZs who care about each other ‘s welfare and want to have good services available at reasonable prices, or in this case to even grow plants for themselves, to press for this present Labour Coalition Bill to go through.

And afterwards, perhaps,.to vote for the National Party to go into recession as they are redundant for a country that wants to be run well and in agreement with the wants of the worthy people here, not the money-made connivers who have been hypnotised like laboratory animals to jump when wealthy people tell them to.

I wonder why National have produced a Bill of their own instead of just co-operating to get what seems a reasonable and humane one passed by Parliament?

So that they can attack the present government.

Is it because they only ever want to pass legislation that is likely to benefit some business that funds them?

      That too.

It will be good for NZs who care about each other ‘s welfare and want to have good services available at reasonable prices, or in this case to even grow plants for themselves, to press for this present Labour Coalition Bill to go through.

To get that would have required the previous Green bill to go through but NZ1st and Labour wouldn’t support it for some unknown reason although I suspect that them not supporting it has to do with both looking for profit for the big players as well.

    • adam 3.2

Yeah but labour can go to hell. Lying, scum that they are, and their supporters.

They lied about medical cannabis, and they have given the most bullshit bill ever to reach our parliament.

I wonder how David Clarke can live with himself the scumbag. Tory in sheep’s bloody clothing that muppet.

The dodgy Canadian pair are having an event in Auckland, and will only let ticket holders know the venue close to the date/time.

Excellent. They are trying to avoid a protest happening at the venue. But such a protest will only give them more publicity.

I’m more for some people organising another event/s elsewhere, which celebrate Auckland and NZ’s diversity and highlighting the importance to society of economic and social equity.

    Heroine, sans cape.

A lone student activist on board a plane at Gothenburg airport has prevented the deportation of an Afghan asylum seeker from Sweden by refusing to sit down until the man was removed from the flight.

Her successful protest, footage of which spread rapidly across the internet, shines a spotlight on domestic opposition to Sweden’s tough asylum regime, at a time when immigration and asylum are topping the agenda of a general election campaign in which the far right is polling strongly.

“I hope that people start questioning how their country treats refugees,” Elin Ersson, 21, told the Guardian in an interview. “We need to start seeing the people whose lives our immigration [policies] are destroying.”

    Best of the interwebs.

In the June 8, 1922 edition of the Hawaiian language newspaper, “Kuokoa”, a beautiful editorial was written about the virtue and respectful aspects of giving unto others freely and generously. -Translated by Mrs. Mary Kawena Pukui [Source: Hawaiian Ethnographic Notes: Newspaper Collection (HEN) at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum Archives.] “He Koauka a he Koakai” – “Those of the Upland, Those of the Shore” “The places lived in by this race were divided into two divisions, the places between mountain and sea, and the places on the shore all around the island, called a mokupuni. Those of the upland were called koa-uka and those of the shores, koa-kai.

There were recognizable signs that told where a man had come from by his appearance and by what he had in his hand or on his back. What he did made it better known.

These things made a better understanding between the two walks of life. When a koauka longed for some fish, he prepared some bundles of poi, wrapped them in ti leaves, put them in a lauhala bag and outside of the whole a carrying net (koko). Then it was carried slung over the shoulder to the shore with the idea of meeting with a koakai and making him a friendly present of these bundles of food. Not for sale, Oh no! Although it might resemble it. The thought in back of it was hidden in the mind of the man for it was a matter of shame among the people of this sacred land to sell to each other. That is, to wait until you were given something before giving anything. Selling is but a modern thing.

“and studying, for the first time, the direct relationship between a child’s earnings and that of their parents”
One of the analyses in The Spirit Level was to look at the incomes of fathers and sons as markers of upwards (and downwards) mobility. They focused only on males to remove the confounding effect of time out of the workforce for childbearing for women.
The conclusion – though it wasn’t one of the strongest correlations in the book – was that social mobility (up and down) was greater in countries that were already more equal. Or put another way – for genuine equality of opportunity to exist, it requires relatively high levels of pre-existing equality.
