Damn I'm really really as happy as, that the three kids down in north taranaki are safe and well. But at first clance I hope the father gets a serious bill for all the rescue people putting their lives and safety at risk.

    • Jester 1.1

It was good to actually have some good news this afternoon. To be honest it really surprised me as I was thinking the worse. Agree totally, would have been nice if father had told someone of the plan. I expect more details may come out later.

  2. Tiger Mountain 2

On RNZ’s panel show today mincing tory associate Mr David Farrar tackled Clarke Gayford for making comments about Sirkey’s recent utterances on COVID. A bit rich considering the effort he and Mr Slater devoted to trying to Slander Clarke on their respective blogs.

It got so bad that NZ Police made a statement which was reported here…

    https://thestandard.org.nz/police-scotches-dirty-politics-rumours-about-clarke-gayford/

    • I Feel Love 2.1

      "Free speech!" Etc ..

    • garibaldi 2.2

Yeah , well the moment I heard Farrar's voice I turned the radio off. Has everyone read Dirty Politics? It puts you off the likes of him forever.

    • Jester 2.3

Well I think Clark is a bit silly to go on social media and make these comments as it opens himself up for this sort of thing. I can't remember John Key's wife, or Bill English's wife or Helen Clark's husband ever going on to social media, or to media in general. They very much stayed out of politics which I think is a smart move as their families should be off limits.

      • Pete 2.3.1

Maybe Gayford's participation is measured and constructed on research which says most sane people don't mind.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of those rubbishing him for breaking with tradition praised Trump for chucking the tradition book and protocol away and doing things his own way.

Helen Clark is attacked very time she is in the news offering opinions on anything, (like concerts at Eden Park) with suggestions she's had her turn and should butt out. Do the complainers about her mind John Key having his say? Or Richard Prebble?

Gayford has as much right as anyone to have opinions and state them.

        • Jester 2.3.1.1

Yes I agree Gayford can have his opinion and voice it on media, but no one can then complain if then people like Farrar or anyone else voice their opinion about what he has said.

      • Patricia Bremner 2.3.2

The cheek of John Key, intimating he could do better by aping Scomo and Bonzo.

  3. Muttonbird 3

What to do about the Dickasons.

White South African immigrants turn up and one of them murders their three kids. upon arrival.

What recruitment process by the South Canterbury DHB brought this horror to our shores? Where was the psychological vetting? Where they appropriate people to be bringing to this country?

The fallout from this brutal murder has already been minimised and sanitised because of the colour of the skin of those involved.

I say send the father back to Pretoria where he belongs, and the mother who brutally murdered her three kids stays in prison here for the rest of her life.

    • weston 3.1

Surely the mother did not do this for kicks muttonbird !!Seems pretty obvious her mental health caused this i dont know a great deal about the family except they were religious ?Maybe she saw the devil in the kids ?.It happens !

      • Muttonbird 3.1.1

Oh, yes. And should certain religious affiliation be a factor in approving skilled migrant labour? Perhaps it should be a factor. Along with cultural affiliation.

Do not forget, these people were white South African chicken runners leaving their secure gated community and all that privilege for the very first time.

        • Stuart Munro 3.1.1.1

While the preciousness that makes us keep some pretty lousy specimens for no good reason, like Harjit Singh's & Hardeep Singh (and not forgetting the corrupt MBIE persons who facilitated their systematic and repeated frauds) frustrates me, there is seldom any good answer to murders of children. In the absence of good answers, trying to minimise harm is the best we can manage – if we can manage that much.

        • alwyn 3.1.1.2

          What an appalling comment.

I suppose you are going to ban all people of the Muslim faith coming to New Zealand are you? After all they might be like this couple who moved to Britain from Pakistan.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Shafilea_Ahmed

Please don't read this if you don't need to. It is an awful story. If you think like Muttonbird you would probably ban all people of that faith on the grounds that this might happen.

          • Muttonbird 3.1.1.2.1

What a bizarre case to bring up, Alwyn. Classic whataboutery.

I've not linked the brutal, premeditated Dickason murders to an honour killing, but I suspect there was a 'return to Jesus' element going on in Timaru that night.

  4. Muttonbird 4

Can't believe there will be 165,000 new first homebuyers introduced to NZ overnight at the stroke of a pen.

This is what the Covid immigrant worker residency fast track means.

What about NZ citizens? People born and brought up here as Kiwis?

    • Molly 4.1

Agree. This is a poor solution to the lack of skills in the country that has foreseeable negative impacts on other issues that require remediation.

    • Stuart Munro 4.2

I am no fan of mass unskilled immigration – but I'm working alongside a few guys who've been in PR limbo for seven years, and who have become skilled in situ – though their wages do not reflect it. Bad employer win.

Really, MBIE need to completely change their culture. The easiest way to do that is to give their jobs en bloc to these migrants.

This corrupt civil service – the final festering fruit of Rogergnomics – hurts every citizen.

  5. chris T 5

Juat something I want to mention., as it came up on another forum that has nothing to do with politics.

Just an observational thing in our lockdown more than anything else.

Can I just ask all moderators to be a bit careful with their ban buttons while the lockdown is going on?

Incognito nearly turfed me earlier for a week. Fair enough. Dude thought I should be for a sec. And frankly not the end of the world, have the wife, who cares?

But would just point out there are probably people alone and this is their outlet. So might want to temporarily tread carefully before killing people for months. Mental health is kind of a big thing for those alone.

Appreciate you could just tell me to f off

    • Muttonbird 5.1

Good post. I was banned for two weeks here in the middle of lockdown for apparently insulting an “author” not even resident in New Zealand.

I mean, how can you throw you weight around on an NZ forum when you gave up contributing to the country long ago?

[Please link to the ban “in the middle of lockdown”, thanks.

It makes no difference where a TS Author presently lives/works as long as they make a valuable and relevant contribution to the kaupapa of this site. We’ve had a few Authors based in the UK and elsewhere overseas over the years.

Are you the self-appointed selection committee for who can and cannot be an Author on this site?

Everybody has to adhere to the Policy. It sounds like you’re not only attacking an Author, again, but also trying to tell us how we should run this site.

You’ve got 24 hours to provide the link and apologise for failing to stick to the Policy – Incognito]

[I checked, but I couldn’t find your alleged 2-week ban and you didn’t provide the link as requested. So, as far as I/m concerned it didn’t happen.

You have a bad habit telling us how to run this site.

See you in a week – Incognito]

    • Anne 5.2

Nice one cT. I sort of tried to come to your aid earlier today. Intended to point out you're a cut above the other rwnjs, but thought I'd better keep my mouth shut. Might upset a few folk. 😉 We'll never agree on much but you have a sense of compassion for others and that's good enough for me.

      • chris T 5.2.1

I have noticed we actually more agree than disagree on most things tbh

        And did see earlier. Thanks

With my post though, I genuinely qorry about solo people and forums with the lockdown,

It is kind of easy for me with my wife, My dog to walk and supermarket deliveries,

Not everyone has the same luxuries

    • weka 5.3

thanks from me too. This is a good point.

  6. Molly 6

Does anyone know of any updates regarding the health of the victims of the New Lynn attack in September? Last I recall reading, there were some still in hospital.
