Dirty Politics roundup

Just some stuff I thought people wouldn’t want to miss…

Mandy Hager on her brother’s book:

I don’t know anyone who is more ethical than Nicky […] He is a deep thinker, with an incredibly sharp mind, and always practices what he preaches. And he is a compulsively thorough researcher and a bloody good writer […] And, here’s the most important thing, folks, nothing of importance that he has written has ever ultimately been discredited or disproved. The ignorant spin that he ‘makes things up’ and is a ‘left-wing conspiracy theorist’ could not be further from the truth. People wonder why he gets such extraordinary information leaked to him. The answer is really simple: he’s easy to talk to, honest, respects those he deals with, and he is totally ethical, therefore they can feel confident in him and assured he will protect their confidences. It’s as simple as that.

Media Take last night had a Dirty Politics special with 2 interviews of Nicky Hager.  Jane Kelsey next week on the TPP should be interesting.

We shouldn’t forget Guyon actually holding the PM to account or Garner‘s unhappiness with Judith / Slater.

The passion that’s been inspired is at least something positive – see Danyl and Andrew Geddis.

One of John Key’s responses (other than regular standard lines of “left wing smear campaign”, “conspiracy theorist”, “made it up”, “allegations all falling apart”) has been that the left don’t want to talk about policy, they just want to run smears.  Now apart from the fact that Nicky Hager isn’t a member of any political party, and is thus not “the left” he’s talking about, “the left” have actually released a huge amount of policy (see Labour, Green). And far from not wanting to talk policy, they’ve been trying to ever since Key became leader, and might have succeeded a bit more if Key (thru Ede/Slater) hadn’t kept derailing the conversation with all the smears as laid out in Dirty Politics.

So it’s very amusing that the first TV ads from Labour are about Policy, and the first National ones don’t mention it, because they’re busy negative campaigning

Speaking of policy (and a slight diversion from Dirty Politics), it’s annoying to see the Herald doing their “pork” framing of policy costs.  Because obviously doing something about child poverty or housing supply or reducing class sizes is “pork”.  And we only mention Labour’s extra $4.85 billion in extra revenue in the footnotes, so they look terrible in the big graphic.

But, at the end of the day, and because Don’t worry. Be happy requested it, you’re another day older – that’s all you can say in the life of the poor.

One thing I’m really enjoying from this whole affair is that the smugness has totally evaporated from the RWNJ trolls :p

ps. Are there any links to the Labour ads for those who are sansTV

Has National put up any policy yet? Pretty minor stuff – microscopic.

wheres srylands? (should that be fucking srylands?)

    • NickS 3.1

In “shock” from Dirty Politics probably. Perhaps he’s possibly even wise enough to stop trolling as he knows he’ll get metaphorically whacked in the head with a clue-by-4 composed of stuff from the book…

Srylands and Puckish Rogue are strangely silent and unwilling to defend their mate whale, turncoats..

Kean to know if Srylands thinks his financial support of whale-fail has been money well spent..

Maybe they have been too busy taking on Campbell Live.

Campbell reported tonight that, when CL covers WO/Slater etc, they get a whole big bunch of attacking emails from WO commenters – many using the exact same phrases. Campbell highlighted a post by comment by one WO-ee saying he’d just sent CL an email. Campbell talked to the guy on the phone – didn’t have so much to say on the end of the phone.

    O H !

“At the end of the day ..”

At 3:00 “Is there anyone here who can swear before God, she has nothing to fear, she has nothing to hide?”

At 4:45: “She’s been laughing at you, while she’s having her men, she’ll be nothing but trouble again and again. You must sack her today. Sack the girl today!”

    LES MISERABLES

At The End Of The Day

    Workers:
At the end of the day you’re another day older
And that’s all you can say for the life of the poor
    It’s a struggle, it’s a war
And there’s nothing that anyone’s giving
One more day, standing about, what is it for?
One day less to be living.
At the end of the day you’re another day colder
And the shirt on your back doesn’t keep out the chill
    And the righteous hurry past
They don’t hear the little ones crying
And the plague is coming on fast, ready to kill
    One day nearer to dying!
At the end of the day there’s another day dawning
And the sun in the morning is waiting to rise
Like the waves crash on the sand
Like a storm that’ll break any second
There’s a hunger in the land
There’s a reckoning still to be reckoned
And there’s gonna be hell to pay
At the end of the day!

    Foreman:
At the end of the day you get nothing for nothing
Sitting flat on your bum doesn’t buy any bread

    Workers:
There are children back at home
And the children have got to be fed
And you’re lucky to be in a job
    And in a bed!
    And we’re counting our blessings!

    Women:
Have you seen how the foreman is fuming today?
With his terrible breath and his wandering hands?
It’s because little Fantine won’t give him his way
Take a look at his trousers, you’ll see where he stands!

And the boss he never knows
That the foreman is always on heat
    If Fantine doesn’t look out
    Watch how she goes
She’ll be out on the street
    Workers:
At the end of the day it’s another day over
With enough in your pocket to last for a week
Pay the landlord pay the shop
Keep on working as long as you’re able
Keep on working till you drop
Or it’s back to the crumbs on the table
You’ve got to pay your way
At the end of the day!

    Girl:
And what have we here, little innocent sister?
Come on Fantine, let’s have all the news!
[She grabs the letter from Fantine.]

“Dear Fantine you must send us more money…
    Your child needs a doctor…
    There’s no time to lose!”

    Fantine:
    Give that letter to me
It is none of your business
    With a husband at home
And a bit on the side
    Is there anyone here
    Who can swear before God

    She has nothing to fear?
    She has nothing to hide?

[They fight over the letter. Valjean rushes over to
    break up the squabble.]

    Valjean: (as M. Madeleine)
What is this fighting all about?
Will someone tear these two apart?
This is a factory, not a circus!
Now come on ladies, settle down
I am the Mayor of this town
I run a business of repute

    [To the foreman…]

I look to you to sort this out
And be as patient as you can—
[He goes back into the factory.]

    Foreman:
Now someone say how this began!

    Girl:
At the end of the day she’s the one who began it
There’s a kid that she’s hiding in some little town
There’s a man she has to pay
You can guess how she picks up the extra
You can bet she’s earning her keep sleeping around
And the boss wouldn’t like it!

    Fantine:
    Yes it’s true there’s a child
And the child is my daughter
And her father abandoned us leaving us flat
Now she lives with an innkeeper man and his wife
And I pay for the child
    What’s the matter with that??

    Women:
At the end of the day she’ll be nothing but trouble
And there’s trouble for all when there’s trouble for one
While we’re earning our daily bread
She’s the one with her hands in the butter
You must send the slut away
Or we’re all gonna end in the gutter
And it’s us who’ll have to pay
At the end of the day!

    Foreman:
I might have known the bitch could bite
I might have known the cat had claws
I might have guessed your little secret
    Ah, yes, the virtuous Fantine
Who keeps herself so pure and clean
You’d be the cause I had no doubt
    Of any trouble hereabout
You play a virgin in the light
But need no urgin’ in the night.

    Girl:
    She’s been laughing at you
    While she’s having her men

    Women:
She’ll be nothing but trouble again and again

    Workers:
    You must sack her today
    Sack the girl today!

    Foreman [spoken]:
    Right my girl!
    On your way

  6. MrSmith 6

“that’s all you can say in the life of the poor.”

But ‘they just made bad choices’, oh dear Mr Key looks like those words are now coming back to haunt you.

  7. Dont worry. Be happy 7

Yesterday, maybe, not sure…but it was on Nat Rad morning report…i heard John Key defending his staffer’s involvement in snooping around Labours computers by saying the left would have done the same thing….and then an interesting boast….he claimed to know that the All Blacks had done the same sort of snooping on the Wallabys lineup.

    True? Lie?

If its true…how would he know?

Is he so close to the Rugby Union that they would let him in on a secret/cyber crime like that?

Or did he help them out as head of the SIS or GCSB?

In the blizzard of bullshit, here and there, is Truth….

  8. fambo 8

John Key’s government has hidden its policy agenda at every election so far. It’s policy in 2008 was “time for a change”.

  9. North 9

TheGodKey……shockingly more and more ignoble…….on a daily basis indeed. ‘The Banker’ is coming out hard.

  10. rob 10

What I learnt today is Bhatnager’s dad had a knighthood for services to business and the community nominated by Richard Prebble, yet Cameron Whale has basically ensured his Dad will get nothing ever, and brought shame on his family.

    Karma….

  11. Alistair Connor 11

If I were an All Black, I would feel deeply insulted by Key’s insinuation that at the end of the day, you do what you need to do to win the match. Including cheating.

I bet they’re boiling mad at the NZRFU to have been thrown under the bus in a throwaway line.

    • David H 11.1

And don’t forget that shitty picture, that showed Key as the Leader of the AB’s on that rugby mag. Bugger I have had to mention that boring bloody Game

  12. tricledrown 12

The hey richie ad where Key replaces the guy sitting in the plane .
You didn’t even write about us and the 3 way handshake richie give me your pen

Been browsing Hager’s redacted version of the latest Whaledump (I prefer to read that rather than the raw data)

And I just love the exchanges between Slater and Aaron Bhatnagar, starting about line 840.

Discussing how they are going to publish the stolen Labour Party data to best effect, strategies, how to torture Labour by drip-feed leaks and turn them into liars…

It takes on a certain dramatic irony, reading it now.

    • McFlock 13.1

      lol:

      Cameron Slater, 6/11, 10:48pm

      they will attack me

that strategy is what national would do

well, he was right – national did that, hasn’t really worked though 🙂
