Sacha Baron Cohen has been at it again and is launching a new series digging deep into the American psyche.
Here is a taste of what we can expect.
It includes what appears to be statements by high profile Republicans Trent Lott, Dana Rohrabascher, Joe Wilson and Joe Walsh supporting the rights of toddlers to at least be trained in the art of using weapons. The context is not clear but the fact these senior republicans were trapped into saying supportive messages about something as bizarre as arming toddlers is deeply worrying.
And this may not be the end of the problems for the Republicans. Sarah Palin may also have been trapped.

The former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate called the comedian [Sacha Baron Cohen] “evil, exploitative and sick” in a Facebook post on 10 July after he duped her into an interview for his new show Who Is America?
Palin had claimed Cohen disguised himself as a “disabled US veteran” during the interview before she walked out.
“I did NOT say I was a War Vet,” the letter reads. “I was in the service – not military, but United Parcel and I only fought for my country once – when I shot a Mexican who came onto my property.”
The letter goes on to praise Palin for “TELLING THE TRUTH about Obama’s birth certificate and the location of Russia” before claiming that she had “been hit by a bullshit grenade” and was “bleeding FAKE NEWS”.
It arrives after a source told People that Palin decided to end the interview after a question about a “government funded sex-change operation for Chelsea Clinton”.
Time will tell. I expect this will be the most awaited interview for some time.
And it appears Roy Moore has also been duped. Again from the Guardian:
The disgraced US Senate candidate Roy Moore has also released a statement revealing that he too was convinced to appear on the show, saying that he was embarrassed and humiliated by Cohen.
“I don’t need Sacha Cohen to tell me who America is, but I can tell him that America is a proud Nation which sprang from humble beginnings and a strong belief in God, virtue, and morality,” he said in a statement. “As an American, I would never hide my identity and deceive others only to mock and ridicule them as this Showtime series is designed to do. America is not only about being proud but about being brave and standing for what we believe.”
Moore, who was accused of sexual misconduct by nine women, also complained that Cohen was part of a string of “vicious false political attacks” and that his art is “trickery, deception, and dishonesty”.
Baron Cohen’s alter ego has set up this insane website truthbrary.org. The really funny thing about it is that not only is it clearly insane but it is not that much different to other similarly themed websites.

John Oliver is another example of a comedian who pretends to be politically independent but had no problem smearing Jill Stein of the US Greens and the democratically elected Venezuelan government.
I prefer comedians who are honest about their political leanings but also fearsome truth tellers – Michelle Wolf would be an excellent example of this. As she pointed out in her Washington Correspondents address, they knew what they were going to get before they hired her.
Oliver also did a hit job on Snowden.
