Do you?

First up, poverty isn’t a choice. Poverty is a deliberate and predictable systemic effect of liberal capitalism.

Second up, ending poverty isn’t about providing opportunities. Ending poverty is about governments channelling back to people what the market has taken away.

Those are the facts, and this is the proposition…

This election, don’t vote for a politician.

This election, give your vote to the young mother who has to give blow jobs just so she can get stuff for her child.

This election, give your vote to the young parent who ‘earned’ a conviction for stealing nappies.

This election, give your vote to men and women, so destroyed by poverty and its siblings that they just push through endless grey days with alcohol, powders or pills now.

This election, give your vote to the woman who aborted a foetus only because she couldn’t imagine or face raising another child in poverty.

This election, give your vote to men and women who now have no way out; whose future is set to serve up nothing but more debt, no money, and mounting hopelessness.

This election, give your vote to men and women who have been so hounded and damaged by institutional disregard and callousness that they are no strangers to the notion of “checking out”.

‘Your’ party and ‘your’ politician and your issues will still be around in three years time. And no-one is going to take anything away from you (not even money) for lifting your eyes to look beyond your own immediate concerns.

Vote for humanity this election.
