FAQ

What does FAQ mean?

It stands for Frequently Asked Questions. In this case it means all of the questions you might want to ask, but didn’t know the question.

This page and its sub pages contain the essential survival guide to the technical bits and pieces about the site. Hopefully it will allow you to avoid having to ask the nearest local kid about how to do something.

Smooth fonts on Windows XP

If the fonts on The Standard are looking a bit blocky and you are using Windows XP, try enabling ClearType: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306527.

From Wikipedia:

ClearType was later introduced as an operating system feature in Windows XP, where it was kept turned off by default. In Windows Vista, ClearType is turned on by default. In Microsoft Office 2007, Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Live Messenger ClearType is turned on by default, even if it is not enabled throughout the operating system.

For Unbutu users try http://www.killertechtips.com/2008/04/10/how-to-turn-on-cleartype-in-ubuntu-linux/.
