Freedom for Palestine – National day of action

From the NZ Palestine Solidarity Network Facebook ad:

A Nation-wide Day of Action has been called for the 16th of August 2014.

Ongoing Israeli aggression and bombardment of Gaza has killed over 1800 people, injured tens of thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands. We are demanding an immediate end to the genocidal killing of people in Gaza, an end to the siege of Gaza, and the immediate expulsion of the Israeli ambassador, Yosef Livne, sending a strong and clear message from the people of New Zealand that we will not sanction the massacres of civilians and children.

All over the world and across Aotearoa, there have been massive protests demanding an end to the Israeli massacres in Gaza, and in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

We have made ourselves heard, but the terror continues in Gaza. It is important to build and grow this solidarity movement in Aotearoa until our voices are no longer ignored by Parliament and real action is taken! We will not stand idle and watch as our brothers and sisters are slaughtered.

We stood up to apartheid South Africa and shouted “Not in our name!” we rallied, protested and boycotted until that hateful regime fell.

The same commitment is needed NOW! If we recognise the suffering of Palestinians, and are appalled by the ongoing massacre, then we have a moral duty to take action in support and solidarity with the struggle for liberation. Ultimately, injustice can only continue through indifference and inaction.

The “conflict’s” violence is not inevitable or accidental, it is part of the strategy of a wilful brutal colonial project. It has happened in a broader political context of ongoing siege, occupation, colonisation, mass-incarceration, subjugation, apartheid and ethnic cleansing in Palestine.

The worlds eyes are on the region now, but a child has been killed on average every 3 days at the hands of Israel between 2000-2013, we demand justice, equality and freedom for ALL the victims of Israeli aggression who suffer under its weight, walls, checkpoints, settlements and watchtowers every single day. Currently, Israel’s massacre of Gaza is killing an average of one child per hour.

There will be a petition and other forms of direct action you can get involved with on the day. Each city will have differing activities planned for the day.

Watch this space as we will be updating it with more information regarding actions and targets, updates about each city protest time and location, as well as the posters and flyers for the nationwide day of action so everyone can get on board and mobilise their communities.
