G20: Trump isolated and friendless

ABC news political editor Chris Uhlmann’s report went viral and was picked up by international media,

Speaking on Sunday from the G20 conference in Hamburg, Uhlmann said Trump had shown “no desire and no capacity to lead the world” and was himself “the biggest threat to the values of the west”.

ABC’s transcript of the video.

The Guardian provided further context by describing Uhlmann’s background,

Uhlmann has been the national political editor of ABC news since 2015, and won a Walkley award, Australia’s highest journalism honour, for broadcast interviewing in 2008.

While he may not be globally recognised, he caused controversy in Australia in 2016 when he blamed the South Australian state blackout on wind power and renewable energy, even though scientists disputed the claim.

Uhlmann refused to apologise despite attracting complaints, and likened himself to a heretic being burned at the stake.

In February that year he also published an essay that said the “intellectual virus” of Marxism was destroying the culture of western society.

Uhlmann describes himself as a centrist and once ran for public office in the Australian Capital Territory’s state election on a ticket with the conservative Christian independent Paul Osborne.

Uhlmann is a biased and sadistic journalist. Trump is the real hero at G 20. Merkel is only a regional leader. But leaders of two superpowers (Trump and Putin) discussed international affairs and brought ceasefire in Syria. Perverted Uhlmann highlights climate change which mustered strength among European leaders to cause a chasm. . But Trump cared a tuppence for it. Trump is correct when he said during the campaign: “We’re going to cancel the Paris climate agreement and stop all payments of United States tax dollars to UN global warming programs,” Vicious Uhlmann was blind to see Trump’s discussion with Xi about the threat of North Korea. These are the international issues and Trump performed in a superb manner as a world leader. Uhlmann is mad in not bringing out Trump’s masterly discussion with Putin, Xi about Syria, North Korea and Ukraine. Uhlman is licking the shoes of regional leaders like Merkel and Macron.who have little power to change world events.

The only way we’ll be rid of Trump before the end of his term is if he decides to go. Which could happen if he decides he’s not having fun and he really does prefer to spend his days playing golf surrounded by suck-ups and never have to deal with people making plain to his face with their words and actions that they thoroughly despise him, and he really can’t do anything to hit back at them.

But if it’s having to deal with foreigners that makes him unhappy, first he’s likely to retreat into even more nationalism before going relatively quietly.

For the sake of getting a progressive government in the US that wants to deal with the world on more reasonable terms, it’s better he stays in place and continues tarring the Repug brand while continuing to get very little done, until the Repugs get sick of him and start putting pressure on. Then he’ll probably go, but erupt into a full Trumpzilla rage on their asses.

Then the US will also have Pence to deal with, which is even scarier. But internationally it’ll be back to the Repug flavour of business as usual.

    • Ad 2.1

He needs to stay while the global left sorts its shit out.

Trump in power is the only way I can see that the left can sort its shit out.

      • Andre 2.1.1

I worry that the Chump is such a steaming pile that the left only needs to be “not Trump” to solidly win the next round of elections, and the longer he’s in place the more true that will be.

So while while the Chump certainly is a huge opportunity for the left to sort its shit, he’s also a massive smokescreen the left can lazily coast behind without ever dealing to its problems. Kinda like Shrub made it impossible for a Repug to win in ’08, so the left never sorted its shit in the lead-up to that election.

        • Ad 2.1.1.1

I don’t think the smokescreen metaphor works.

This guy is pissing everyone off – Merkel is a resolute statist patrician old dear from the conservative side of German politics and clearly loathes him. He is uniting politicians and countries such that we have not seen the likes of for many years.

Finding something to be angry against is a good start.

          Compare to New Zealand politics:
our government is led by a person charitably described as bland. He still has the highest likelihood of forming yet another government, and the opposition can do nothing this week except attack each other.

          • RedLogix 2.1.1.1.1

Trump is not completely Nigel No Mates:

Given the catastrophic stakes, Putin and Trump have an onerous responsibility to the rest of humanity to get down to earnest dialogue for the sake of world peace. Yet it is amazing how the two leaders have been “boxed in” by the Russophobia that has come to dominate Washington mainstream politicians and media. It is ridiculous that the world’s two superpowers have up to now effectively been kept incommunicado; prevented from holding thorough dialogue to work through allegations and grievances, or consolidate areas of cooperation.

      • Andre 2.2.1

Maybe. But as long as the Repugs fear the eternal wrath of the Trumpkins if they remove him they’ll just do “Weekend at Bernie’s” with him. It’s been done before with a fundamentally incapacitated president.

  2. Also on the Guardian’s front page, yet another way Trump’s fucking over all attempts to reduce human impact on climate: 2017: the year we lost control of world population surge?

    • Andre 3.1

Any Repug prez would be doing that, it’s not a good example of the Chump’s unique brand of fuckery.

  3. ianmac 4

When Bush became President, it didn’t seem to matter that he did not have the intellect, or the experience, or the knowledge to be President. Immaterial? It was the team behind the scenes who made all the decisions and in Bush’s case all he had to do was make the odd prepared speech and be charming and follow protocol.
Trump could do the same but his penchant for off the cuff remarks and endless twitters has isolated him.

Now that is an accurate assessment of the real Trump not the Fake Trump that Fox news tries to project.

  5. Trump – I’m a creep, I’m a weirdo, what the hell am I doing here, I don’t belong here, I want a perfect body… I wish I was special, so fucking SPECIAL !! !!’

    Host – and may I introduce…

“This is what would happen if Trump actually did resign.
According to U.S. Code 3 Section 20, he would have to submit his resignation in writing to the U.S. Secretary of State, currently Rex Tillerson, who would have to initial it and acknowledge receipt. (Or, at least, that’s what Secretary of State Henry Kissinger did in 1974 when Richard Nixon resigned, the only time in U.S. history it has happened.)
According to the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, upon Trump’s resignation, Vice-President Mike Pence would instantly become president, though he would only take the Oath of Office shortly after. He would also have a swearing-in ceremony.
If Pence is also somehow compromised, deemed unfit for office, or resigns himself, the next in line to the presidency is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Congressman Paul Ryan. After Ryan comes the president pro tempore of the Senate, a position that usually goes to the senior member of the majority party. Right now, that’s 83-year-old Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch.”..Awesome…

Or, should somehow there be an earlier election, the DNC are determined to stick with Hilary. The very reason we are in this situation to start with.

Deciding that the primaries do not need to be fair has killed the illusion of American democracy, and further doomed the planet.

Trump isn’t just the ‘problem’, he’s also the symptom of a compromised ‘Left’.
