Rob Fyfe isn’t the only business leader calling for socks to be pulled up over climate change. High powered companies appear to dropping like flies from the US chamber of commerce, on account of its anti-climate action stance.
The lobbying powerhouse has been fighting an Environmental Protection Agency initiative to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, a stance that’s rendering hot the underside of some very influential collars.
Apple is the latest to quit the business lobby group, saying: ‘We strongly object to the Chamber’s recent comments opposing the EPA’s effort to limit Greenhouse Gases.’
Nike has also spoken out against the Chamber’s stance and quit its board, circulating a statement late last month openly criticising the group.
Other critics include Exelon and Duke Energy; both members of the corporate and environmental coalition U.S.Climate Action Partnership, which favours federal law requiring “significant reductions of greenhouse gas emissions”.
Back to Apple, it has been making attempts to align the colour of its practices with the colour of its namesake, responding well to a Greenpeace campaign to green global electronics, creeping up the organisation’s ranking guide and recently making public details of its carbon emissions.
