Is Ted Cruz the dumbest politician ever?

Now that Donald Trump has more time to play golf and attend court there will be jockeying for leadership of the Republican Party, or what will be left of it once Trump’s new Patriot Party emerges.

One early contender is Ted Cruz.  There is a problem with him however, he is an imbecile.

The proof is in this tweet.

Just in case there is someone reading this who does not know what the Paris Climate Agreement is, it is a multilateral International Treaty under which 196 different countries have pledged to make cuts to their greenhouse gas emissions in the hope that we do not cook the planet.

If successful it will help the citizens of Paris.  It will also help the citizens of Pittsburgh and every other city in the world for that matter.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had the perfect ziger.

If Cruz is the best the Republicans have they are in trouble.

    I dunno – there are some pretty strong local contenders.

    Gerry for instance – who doesn't understand about not crapping where you live, and didn't get that he's manifestly unfit for any public office, much less deputy PM.

    Or the clowns for whom it was inconceivable! that casting Jacinda as Buttercup (from the Princess Bride) in a deepfake video would build rather than erode her popularity.

    It would lock in Florida, which was Trump's surest route as well.

    Cruz has shown all the characteristics and qualities needed to be a Republican presidential candidate.

    This latest thing is just him being him. There will be enough (millions probably) who will see the bare statement, take it as read, believe it to be profound and will be part of their solid wall of support for him.

          You may well be right. I concede that Cruz may indeed be a really clever operator, and that his spouting of stupid right wing tropes is an elaborate cover for his agile, ever scheming, first rate mind.

          There were similarly compelling claims made that Trump was not really racist.

            Cruz did his education at Princeton and Harvard, and was recognisably among the best students of his years there. That still counts for a lot, those schools still attract a lot of actual talent despite their increasing propensity towards simply being purveyors of unearned prestige for sale.

            As Texas Solicitor General, he won five cases of the nine he argued before the Supreme Court.

            So yeah, his ignoramus routine is almost certainly an act. Which is why it's nowhere near as compelling as the rotting rage-gargoyle's routine, since that reflected the terracotta turdface's genuine deep imbecility.

                Let's be clear on one thing. Ted Cruz is a terrible human being, and his level of intelligence doesn't change that fact.

                When we say he's smart, what we mean is that he has astutely identified that his best prospects for gaining political power sit with pandering to the rabid Trumpian base of the Republican party.

          It's almost inevitable that a Democrat will win a major state-wide race in Texas… soon?… but at the moment I would still see Republicans as odds-on favorites.

          Demographic trends in the state should lean in favor of Democrats (hispanic population growing faster than whites, inward migration of highly educated workers to the tech sector etc) but even within those demographic groups the swing in favour of Democrats appears to be moving at a slower pace than other states that are more viable targets for a Democrat (Arizona and Georgia are the two obvious ones, and New Mexico has gone from Purple to Blue).

          To put it another way, if Democrats win a presidential or senate election in Texas, they've already won control by picking up easier state targets before that, so there's still no real reason to invest in the state. The real advantage they gain from a close Texas race is that it forces republican to invest resources they would rather throw at, say, PA or MI.

    There is a loopy Q-Anon member, Colorado State Rep. Lauren Boebert I would say might be the current top contender. But she could be on her way out soon as the talk is she is under investigation for live tweeting info during the riot about where Nancy Pelosi was being taken to safety to her Q-Anon followers, and for possibly having given scouting tours to some people a few days before the riots. Some of the rioters seamed to have good knowledge of where a number of their targets (some unmarked) offices where located.

    As Teds name was discussed by some of the rioters and with his stance over refusing to confirm the election results while still claiming a rigged vote he might not have to much time left as one also. He might be stupid enough to go over to the Patriot Party.
