Key not sure if US spy agency has role here

Prime Minister John Key can’t rule out US spy agency NSA having New Zealanders’ electronic communications under surveillance – even if this country’s own Government Communications Security Bureau doesn’t.

How do the NSA manage their surveillance of New Zealand? Evidence of the GCSB’s involvement includes:

• the compelling testimony and documents revealed by Snowden and Greenwald,
• Key’s admission that a GCSB probe was inserted into the cable (but “never turned on” – yeah right),
• ex GCSB head Ferguson’s admission that the GCSB had the relevant software and was trained in its use,
• the evidence of NSA technicians working with the GCSB here in NZ,
• some shady looking admissions from Southern Cross Cable,
• the simple logic of our participation in Five Eyes
• and of course Key’s ever changing evasions and lines on the issue.
