I’ve just got an email on the launch of the Drinking Liberally chapter in Dunedin:

Come raise your spirits as you raise a pint as New Zealand’s network of progressive drinking clubs arrives in Dunedin. Drinking Liberally is an informal, non-programmatic gathering of like-minded left-leaners, an opportunity to share you ideas while you share a drink. You don’t need to be a seasoned activist or policy wonk to join us in meeting new friends, reconnecting with old ones, and enjoying a stiff mix of socializing with a dash of politics.

Our first special guest is Green MP Keith Locke.

Drinking Liberally has become a fast-growing phenomenon, now offering social space for progressive pint-pourers in all major centres in New Zealand.

Come and raise a toast to some bottoms-up democracy!

The Revolution begins at Happy Hour.

Man, that’s some sweet writing. Not sure how Hamilton will feel about not being classed a major centre 🙂

What: Drinking Liberally – Dunedin
When: 7pm, Tuesday March 3
Where: The Velvet Underground
Who: Keith Locke to speak, a good motley crew to socialise

Yes. It is a bit bogged down at present with digging out speakers. Besides you know what aucklanders are like…. Like me most of the people involved with organizing it are pretty busy. I think that they’d welcome some help if anyone is offering

  2. It’ll never happen in Hamilton. It’s redneck cow bloke town.
If on the other hand some Hamiltonians decide to do a drinking liberally evening I’ll be happy to show some interesting and thought provoking DVD’s. LOL.

Jesuz H Christ, you’d have to be damn pissed before anything Locke said ever looked like making sense.

  4. Strange, I had the impression that a famous well known figure (not a politician) of the NZ Left would be the first speaker.

can’t make next week sadly, I’m on a business trip – do they have a web page one can access without opening a facebook account?
