    Or worse yet the hat of the former head of the GCSB (Oh sorry my mistake. Same hat.)
    Did Key get Rawsharks name from illegal spying by the GSSB and that is why he will not say who told him and what the persons name is?

    I am no lawyer but it seems to me:

    1. The police MUST ask Key who Rawshark is and Key’s source for that information.
    2. Key gives them the info and the police return all of Hager’s materials. They now have what they claimed in the warrant they were looking for. OR
    3. Key refuses and he is charged with obstructing a police investigation.

    This is what would happen if I claimed to know Rawshark.

    If I am incorrect, please explain.

        question is…does Hager have any more stuff in those files from sources other than Rawshark?

        …is this the real reason for the 10 hour hunt/turnover of Hager’s place ( when of course he wouldnt keep Rawsharks name there)

        ….was it really a fishing expedition because Key is worried about other material that Hager has been researching and other sources

        …in which case not returning the computer/files is an attempt to stop an investigative journalist in his work

      When a person is not prepared to name someone they are concealing their identity for a good reason. Key must have known that Rawshark has some juicy emails.

      Rawshark was not sure what material Hager would use. The media were forbidden from publishing new material. Slater would have discussed with Key making a police complaint, Key has much more to lose than Slater and Key would want to know what Rawshark could use against him, otherwise Key would have given the name (Rawshark) to the police and this may have prevented Hager being raided. Key does not want the public to know how freely he speaks to Slater, I think this is why he did not want to give an answer during question time when asked about what was said to Slater.

      What does Collins make of Key accepting her resignation and Key with holding information which is part of a police complaint?

      Wasting police resources is not the answer. Key using the police for his own personal gain is the answer.

      Don’t be a muppet. The police are looking for evidence not speculation. Hager knows who Rawshark is, Someone told Key who they thought it was, you cant lock someone up without evidence. Only a dick would suggest searching key’s house because he received a phone call.

    It seems as though it is a lot easier to nail who Rawshark is compared to obtaining enough evidence to go to trial for 25 people who have been seriously offended against.

    Maybe Rawshark just might be able to obtain enough evidence for rape complainants to attempt to get some justice from a system which is so stacked against being heard.

Cameron Slater and his mates have as shown in the book Dirty politics been slowly removing all the moderates out of positions of power in the National Party and stacking the top jobs and safe electorate seats in the party with all their hard right leaning mates. This new National Government is even far more right wing than the one we had in the previous 3 years.

    Your comments have been interesting and some entertaining. But I am deadly serious about the question I posed at the beginning (2). It would be best if we could get an informed legal opinion.

    Question: If Key does not give the police the identity of Rawshark, can he be charged with obstruction of justice?

    Supplemental Question: Can a private prosecution be brought against Key for obstruction of justice?

            Nah. key is at best claiming to have hearsay evidence from an unknown source. The police might want to ask him for more info, but he is under no legal obligation to talk with them. There is no reasonable grounds to suspect he knows who RS is at all, so it’s unlikely a judge would grant any sort of warrant/

            I think he’s bullshitting anyway. He told this to Roughan, to put in his book which will mostly only be read by Nat party faithful. This is just myth making stuff, big noting to the grandkids when they read is book bored during a rainy holiday sometime in the 2050s.

          No Anna, Key isn’t obstructing a police investigation. The police haven’t asked him anything yet. If they did I’m sure he would answer fully. Key is obliged to cooperate with a police investigation and answer police questions, but he has no obligation to pass on hearsay about the identity of this person to the news media. In fact doing so would be risking a lawsuit for slander. Hager is also obliged to cooperate with a police investigation and answer police questions. I understand it the police have asked him questions and he has declined to answer.

                  I wasn’t, but a good analogy.

                  It seems, our definition of success is how much money you have made, no matter how morally questionable the means.

                  Given the number of people who willingly join Key in the bullying of those forced on welfare and attacks on anyone who disagrees.

                  My definition of success is someone who, even in a small way, leaves this world having made life better for those around him/her.

                  Key is definitely not stupid. Selfish, lacking empathy, narrow minded and not very self aware, but good at what he does.

                    It is possible that he’s a machiavellian genius who’s pulling the wool over the eyes of voters with his cultivated image of a yokel who happens to be a financial idiot savant. Occam’s razor, however, would suggest that it’s far more likely actually is a yokel who happens to have an aptitude for finance, that he is a complete schmuck who mashes up his ideas and nomenclature, all the while swirling around in a constant bath of muddled categories and confused philosophy. To do what he is doing to the country, he doesn’t need vision, he doesn’t need to have a concept or understanding of society, he doesn’t need to have a nuanced concept of ethics.

                    He fronts a party at the heart of whose political philosophy is the idea that prosperity stems from individals’ desire to accumulate wealth for themselves. It’s his job to be credulous when approached by powerful interests and to accept what spinmeisters tell him. It’s their job to make what they’re saying persuasive and memorable, and his to put a consistent, recognisable and disarming face – a ‘brand’, if you like – to what they say. There is no particular reason why he should be smart, subtle or strategically savvy. It is entirely possible for him to be both effective and a stupid git. To all appearances, that is exactly what he is.

This same minister who defines better Public Services as better street lighting during the Election Campaign.
