Ruth Richardson and Steven Joyce get a big gong for helping destroy people's live.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel here, obviously there are no non-politicians or sporting personalities in this country worthy of recognition for good works, or only a little gong if they do find them?

Someone with an objective eye should list their achievements.
Ruth and Steve have left quite the legacy across media, higher education, welfare etc with stevie's snout still in the trough spinning it up large for the peeeps at NZME.
The craven desire of our elites for imperial honours is unedifying at the best of times – but far worse in times like this. The accompanying blurb for Ruth Richardson should have read: "for her contribution to human misery, premature deaths of despair and decades of national economic failure".
Although it would have the effect of denying recognition for worthy recipients, I think we should get rid of them altogether. Don't even bother doing what Helen Clark tried: replacing them with a local honours system. Leave the judgment up to God – if there is one, or one interested enough in us to care.
I suspect Budgetmother Ruthie's gong has been hanging fire for a while, awaiting the appearance of a government sufficiently RW not to be embarrassed by the award of it. Eighteen months from their election in '23 till now represents the timescale of the proposal/submission/approval process.
The real "Mission Impossible" Turns out Ukraine has a few more cards than Trump thought.
This attack will join the Dambusters raid in legend.
Perhaps the most significant thing about this operation, apart from the brilliant planning and execution, is the fact that Ukraine apparently didn't inform the US of the attack.
Therefore, I imagine, not giving the Russians warning of what was about to hit them!
Slava Ukrainii
They used containers that were transported near to the air fields by unwitting truck drivers. The containers opened automatically. I am not sure if the drones were entirely autonomous, or were remote controlled from Ukraine. But, they targeted the fuel tanks of the planes for best effect.
An incredible operation. But, there are lessons for modern militaries around the world. So much expensive stuff is now vulnerable to these sort of attacks with cheap drones.
At the risk of coming across too virtuous, I followed the process here

to make a submission. Kinda appropriate to do it on Kings Birthday,
H/T to arkie for posting the link a few days ago.
You have three opportunities to add yr own korero.
Aotearoa/New Zealand has a reasonably good history of righting the wrongs of colonisation. Honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi is a big part of that position.
This Bill does not give due consideration to Te Tiriti. In Canada, where David Seymour had his formative political grounding, they have an appalling record of treatment towards their first peoples.
I do not want this foreign influenced thinking negating and undermining the mana of Te Tiriti.
I see a future of Aotearoa where all people thrive, honouring Te Tiriti is central to achieving this.
It took me about 15 minutes and most of that was editing my own waffle.
I just sent an email to a number of people outlining the nastiness of that Bill and included the 4 basic elements outlining it. I included my sample of rewriting those elements in my own words. I included the link as did gsays:

Fortunately the Ardern government did put such a high value on life.

Jim Bolger's interview on RNZ Sunday Morning should be compulsory listening for Luxon, Seymour and Co. What a contrast to their arrogance, opinionated, condescending and empathy lacking behaviour.
Couldn't agree more.
Yeah, good old Jim. Disagreed with much of what he and his cohort stood for, but there was always a sense of decency about the man. And he stood firmly by his republican instincts by declining the "sirhood" customary for former Nat PMs.
After watching the rugby on Saturday evening (Hurricanes v Moana Pacifica) – I did quietly wish that MP could have done better, but watching the interview of Du'Plessis Kirifi with his right ear sporting a fair bit of damage, and the blood streaming onto his shirt and other areas, I could help but compare this with Trump's 'assassination' attempt a few months ago. I can't find any pictures of the interview but I bet Du'Plessis' ear will sport a ongoing reminder of what happened. I still don't know how whether what happened in Trump's case was carefully rehearsed or not.
If that wasn't enough of Du'Plessis Kirifi I heartily recommend this interview of him by avowed 'Canes fan boy Julian Wilcox.

I smell a rat.
Collins reckoned in 2014 "In response to Iran, I can advise that there is no state torture in New Zealand."
She then talks all twisty turvey like a twisty turvey thing by saying
"My response to Iran's remarks reflected the findings of the United Nations subcommittee on the prevention of torture, which had visited New Zealand in April 2013.
"In its report, provided to New Zealand in November 2013, the subcommittee found 'no evidence of torture or physical ill-treatment' in places of detention in New Zealand."
Minister of Justice in 2012, Corrections and Police '09.
I don't for a moment believe she didn't know.
This has come up because a victim asked a couple of questions.

I hope that the media give this line of enquiry some legs.
Found it.
"Luxon retaining Collins and Jagose as the Crown’s lawyers is not just a political matter, although it has now become that. It also has serious implications legally."
"How many conflicts of interest and past failures do you have to have on your CV before you get stood down? This is particularly so when their role has a direct bearing on redress. The only other minister who has a more direct role and influence over redress is the Minister of Finance and the advice received from Treasury.
Surely it is simply untenable for Judith Collins and Una Jagose to retain their positions as the Crown’s two top lawyers, advising Cabinet on redress when they have so clearly failed."
and
"Before holding that Ministry of Justice portfolio she (Collins) was Minister of Police and presided over the conclusion to an investigation into Lake Alice that was a debacle. "

What a delight to see Jacinda on the news tonight, however briefly. Made one really realise what we lost with her departure and here we are left with charmless Lumpen Luxon.
Note to moderator: unable to comment on existential thread..
