     This guy Peter O’Connor seems to be under some illusion that every one in NZ wants to retain the status quo where the Unions run the schools and control how NZ kids are educated.

   Jono – excellent and enlightened message here – all should watch. Government wants to smash the Teachers Union, the Union they most fear. The thing is to “improve the present public system”, not provide opportunities for cranks, zealots, and unqualified people to foul up the minds of our children.
   Poverty is already well on the way to doing that.

   Saw Hekia Parata on a TV News clip last night. She was behaving like an arsehole talking down to a group of teachers. After her ‘address’ she complained that ‘there was some discourtesy’ by the teachers.

     Parata is a strange beast. She plows on in Question Time clearly unwilling or unable to answer credibly, and ditto to Education Groups. She insults teachers with gay abandon and it makes you wonder what the ulterior motives are in doing so. She looks so pleased with herself almost smug. What is really going on here?

   Do NOT forget the National Day of Action, that is taking place in various centres around the country tomorrow, Friday, 05 October (around midday and after), and during which beneficiaries, their friend and families, various activist groups, hopefully some opposition party members, unionists and advocates will join, to take a resolute and vocal stand against the National led government’s ultimate attack on the dignity, rights, health and safety of the most vulnerable and truly increasingly very marginalised in NZ’s society.

   Activities are planned and everybody with serious concerns, who wishes to support and to be counted, is asked to join the various pickets, marches and protests.

   Everybody will be welcome, as the ominous ‘Social Security (Benefit Categories and Work Focus) Amendment Bill’, introduced by Minister for Social Development Paula Bennett, and read the first time in Parliament on 20 Sept. this year, will bring about such severe changes, that will impact severly on the lives of sick, disabled and particularly mentally ill on sickness and invalid’s benefits, as of course also to sole parents and the children in their care.

   In Henderson, Auckland, participants will gather at Catherine Place, outside the Westfield Mall, I understand at 12 noon.

   A march to the local WINZ office, protest there, and also a march to Paula Bennett’s electorate office are planned. Let’s hope for good weather, but rain or shine, be there, if you can.

   In a surprise move the Govt has introduced a tax that targets employer provided office space to workers

   Yesterday Revenue Minister Peter Dunne announced the government would target employer-provided office space as it moves to tighten the tax rules on perks used as trade-offs for salary.

   It follows an April 2012 issues paper “Recognising salary trade-offs as income” proposing a much tougher set of rules.

   The specific changes would tax more office space provided to employees through the FBT (Fringe Benefit Tax) rules, mainly in the Auckland and Wellington central business districts where the benefits to the employee are greatest.

   Mr Dunne scoffed at the labour party suggestion that he was looking to impose a FTB on staplers and pens and elevators. He said that that had been suggested but he had rejected it

         Employment Contracts getting rewritten yet again. this one is easy though, just make everyone a shift worker as that seems to be an exemption. Shift work is a very flexible term.

    Turkey appeals to UN over mortar attack

    Turkey has asked the UN Security Council to take the “necessary action” to stop Syrian aggression and ensure that the government there respect Turkish territorial sovereignty after a mortar bomb fired from Syria killed five Turkish civilians.
