After watching the doco on leaky homes last night the nats can hang their heads in shame along with greedy corporates like CHH……especially Maurice Williamson.

The phrase ‘haters and wreckers ‘ is apt….wrecked the integrity of the building process because they hate that pesky regulation, rules and due process stuff.

      Agree

The thing that irks me is NO-ONE wants to take responsibility for it.

      • Bored 1.1.1

Its called socialising the losses and privatising the gains. That is the whole modus operandi of the system we have come to understand as “welfare” for the plutocracy.

      • KJT 1.1.2

No. They would rather blame the chippies who just followed the manufacturers, and/or BRANZ’ instructions in most cases.

Whiny little tossers. Landlord here and this is utter bs. Anyway, let the panic-pants brigade quit the market, less competition for me.

One couple would probably buy rental property in Australia and leave New Zealand, Whitburn said.

Whoohoo, one set of bludgers probably going.

Business and tax experts said Labour’s idea was unworkable and landlords would easily escape it.

They haven’t seen it yet so how do they actually know? Oh, that’s right, they don’t – they’re just talking out their arse as per normal.

Australia, Britain and the United States all have capital gains tax but collection is based on the owner’s own tax rate, not a flat figure like 15 per cent.

Which is as it should be. Basically, the CG should just be added on to the persons income and then taxed at the relevant PAYE tax rate.

    Bill English is Dumb?

Russell Norman wasn’t pulling any punches yesterday in Parliament, attacking National on their negative housing policies and opposition to helping Kiwi’s into home ownership. Bill English admitted to his poor memory and the fact that the National Party still believes in trickle down economics. What trickle down ideology really means is that National is pissing all over the rest of us in a blatant disregard for the welfare of New Zealanders…

Herald Digi Poll: “The poll found only 10 per cent support for a proposal by the Government’s welfare working group that sole parents should look for part-time work when their youngest children turn 3 ….”
If only the Digi Poll was reliable. Most wanted towait till youngest started school. Me too.

And In the latest Herald DigiPoll, the Leader of the Opposition scores 12.4%, an increase on the previous poll, which in turn was an increase on the poll before that. (Thanks Brian Edwards.)
Brian wonders why that wasn’t published in the Herald.

Greece has banned most of the protest boats making for Gaza from leaving Greek ports – because they are ‘concerned about their safety’. Ha. Governments are very willing to harm people, including their own citizens, to the point of killing them, when it suits. I wonder what pressure the abrasive Israelis are putting on Greece?

Thinking of Blair Peach’s killing by the police in Britain years ago. Government didn’t want to know about it. Police did it, but refused to take full responsibility for it and the racism that was behind it. Now with News of the World and the open information about co-operation between police and the Sleeze of the World the facts about police corruption and government self-protection come to light. When I was there in the 70’s it was said that a top policeman had been holidaying at a nice place in a nice European resort, compliments of some successful crim. Now that’s corruption.

All the Brit crime books I read have a working relationship between the police and press and that would be necessary. Police working with unethical dodgy newshounds in too tight a relationship though can lead to the sort of thing revealed today in Britain. Could happen here. Corruption must be guarded against, like rust it is always a possibility and then poof goes our Transparency International oscar for being so great and good.

Dear MSM, you do realise that lesbians don’t have one elected spokesperson. The fact that one lesbian supports someone is just that, the opinion of one private person and should be regarded as that and not the opinions of all lesbians or indeed all of those of us who are homosexual..

hey, RWNJs, this is what some millionaires are saying about taxes

millionaires aren’t the cause of a robust economy, they’re the result of a robust economy

With the implication that cutting taxes for the rich has resulted in a less robust economy.

Although, I still think the monetary theory that gets passed as economic theory these days is delusional.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has seen this…..arrived in a Te Aroha letterbox addressed to the person who lived there.
    _____________ ____________________ ___________________

    (house of rep letterhead)
    22 June 2011
    mrs A ********
    22 B******** Avenue
    Te Aroha 3320

    Dear mrs B*****,

Budget 2011- back to surplus sooner, better public services for families

I’m writing to explain how the recent budget will helpl you and your family.

Budget 2011 is the next step in the National-led Government’s plan for faster economic growth.
It gets us out of the red sooner so we can pay off debt. It encourages companies to create jobs
and boost incomes, and it funds the rebuild of canterbary. It invests more in vital public services
    – health, education, and justice- so we canbuild better and safer communities.

It also lays out new policies to build individual and national savings. I’m not prepared to leave a
time bomb of debt for our children and grandchildren. I want to make sure New Zealand remains a great place to work, live, and raise a family, with lower mortgage rates than labour.

We’re making changes to kiwisaver to increase private savings and reduce government
borrowing. We’re investing more in vital infrastructure to help companies grow and create jobs,
and we’re reforming welfare to put a strong focus on work.

We’re also planning, after the election, to to extend the successful Air New Zealand mixed-
ownwership model to four state owned energy companies. We believe the change will bring real economic benefits, and give New Zealanders an opportunity to invest in quality Kiwi companies
-an opportunity sorely needed after the string of finance company collapses. You have my
assurance that the government will keep majority control of all five companies and that New Zealanders will be at the front of the queue for shares.

Strong economic management is important for all of us. It’s Nationals strong management that has meant increased Super payments. Since 2008, the rate for married couples has gone up 18.9 per cent- or $166 a fortnight- almost twice the rate of inflation. We remain committed to
maintaining the married rate of Super at 66 per cent of the after-tax average wage from age 65.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/5243811/Move-to-10-year-census-possible

    John Key Walks Out

After John Key’s grandstanding and before he walked out of Parliament yesterday without a prior arrangement, the Prime Minster was given a few good slaps in the face by the Leader of the opposition Phil Goff concerning asset sales. John Key’s answers were pathetic at best, being completely discredited by all the relevant data as well as previous experience, which shows privatisation has been a complete disaster for New Zealand.

      • jackal 14.1.1

What gets me is National using the failed argument that Labour did this or that so what National is doing is somehow justifiable. It’s about their only defense at the moment, which isn’t saying much.

Now it seems they’ve resorted to drowning their sorrows. Who needs to run the country when it eats into drinking time eh! Having a few under the belt helps with the smile and wave politics John Key is all about.

The Christchurch Earthquakes, $16 billion deficit, Increased unemployment, Mass exodus, 90% of lowland rivers polluted, ECE Cuts, War on Beneficiaries and selling our inheritance etc needs a bit more than just a smile and wave John.

National standards are being introduced for the sole purpose of being able to “judge”teachers so that the NAct government can have a way of “measuring teacher performance”. The next step will be to introduce performance pay for teachers. To see the consequences of this policy, we can see what is happening in Atlanta where teachers are fudging results to avoid a drop in their wages.
National Standards has absolutely nothing to do with raising educational standards.
