    A real New Zealand Hero

This train manager could have said nothing.

She could have glossed it over.

She took a risk with her job, by holding up the train.

She addressed the passengers to explain her actions.

Because she took a stand she was applauded.

All the silent witnesses who may have identified with the racist sentiments would have seen all the other Kiwi citizens of good will applauding this woman.

Today on newshub am show Duncan Garner asked Simon Bridges what would he do to restore to combat climate change and the economy again if he is the next PM.

‘Simple Simon’ said he would restore the “Roads of National Significance, (RONS)

What a sad man he is, so how will building more roads for trucks save our climate change?

Simon is a cardboard copy of Steven Joyce (the “tar seal king” Joyce was called; – for his love of roads, and Bridges is no better, both are truly “hollow men”.

talk about getting rail going and you may have more votes; – you idiots.

The National Party under funding of the Stats dept after the Canterbury and Kaikoura earthquakes has National trying to sheet the blame to govt.

    • Incognito 3.1

It was mainly the Stats dept that stuffed up. Trying to frame everything in terms of a National-Labour or a Left-Right blame game is a mug’s game IMO. BTW, they were not under-funded initially but when problems appeared, additional resources would have mitigated against not achieving targets.

What rubbish. The 2013 Census came in at $72 million. They did manage to use some of the work for the, abandoned, 2011 Census which cost about $65 million but only a bit of it.

The National Government provided Budget for the 2018 Census was $121 million. There was an additional $5 million provided very late in the piece to try and get some, any, results from the shambles. That took it up to $126 million. As far as I know there were no attempts to put any more money into it in the last 5 months when Shaw was the Minister. Mind you, he doesn't seem to have taken any interest at all in the Census.

How does even a one eyed individual person like you turn that into "National Under funded" the Stats Dept. There are of course lies, damned lies and claims from the fans of our current useless Government.

For an impartial look at what was going on try this.

To be more precise, $90.4 million.

The 2013 Census had a budget of $74.1m. However, $66m had also been spent on the deferred 2011 Census. Some of this cost was duplicated in the 2013 Census. Over the years there have been occasions when actual costs exceeded the appropriation. In these cases the overspend was absorbed by Statistics NZ within their operational budget.

Every time Alwyn says, "For an impartial look at what was going on…", you know it's probably not an impartial look at what was going on. It's more a case of "Stop saying mean stuff about National! Here, look at this stuff that coincidentally supports my assertion that you should stop saying mean stuff about National!"

National are lovely. Like kittens. Fascist kittens that want to stamp on your face until you die. (Especially if you're poor or brown.)

Chester Borrows is a good man. I hadn't realised just how good until I read a Newsroom item about his life and especially about the work to reform justice.

But in order to get real change, MPs need to listen to the growing call to take the politics out of justice. Something he knows is easier said than done.

Borrows has long talked about being ‘smart on crime’, rather than ‘tough on crime’.

There’s a growing call to get politics out of justice. “The only way we’ll get that is if politicians stop pressing that red button every election.”

Can you imagine Bridges giving up the red button for "Tough on Crime?"

Greta Thunberg is taking her climate change action message to North America aboard the Malizia II, a racing yacht with no loos, or kitchen and solely powered by the wind and sun. It should take two weeks to sail across the North Atlantic and will probably be pretty uncomfortable. One of the computer generated weather sites that yachties use to check the forecast conditions out at sea is tracking Greta's journey on it's own page and is supporting her quest. You can check this yourself here: https://www.windy.com/greta-thunberg?50.364,-4.171,5,i:pressure (the yacht is leaving Plymouth in Britain, Weds morning UK time).

    • weka 5.1

Cool. What's the yellow line? UK to Ireland and back, was that the yacht's previous trip?

      • Koff 5.1.1

That was a trial run to Ireland and back. Think she still had a smile on her face afterwards. A bit difficult getting off if you don't like it half way to New York where AOC is promising a rousing welcome to the mad land of Trump!

  6. Fuck me with a feather duster!!! Did I just hear RNZ news at midday correctly?

Paula Bennett is to run the National Party election campaign for 2020? If true, that'd be an indication of where NuZull sussoighty????????? is if they're prepared to place any credibility in her.

    Maybe I "mis-heard"

“The decisions made by previous chief executives are now shown to be financially disastrous yet these people have walked away with multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses. The financial mess they left behind risks the livelihood of both staff and farmer shareholders”.

    http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PO1908/S00187/ceo-bonuses.htm

I thought exactly that when i heard about Fonterra's financial disaster.

    This from Shane Jones

"The Dutchman has destroyed more dairy farming wealth than the GFC," Jones said.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/farming/114954564/fonterras-exboss-spierings-to-be-paid-out-this-year

    • KJT 7.1

I don't feel any satisfaction in the "I told you so" but as I indicated when it happened, the selling of shares to non farmers will result in the end of Fonterra.

Too many conflicts between short term profit and long term goals.

    • greywarshark 7.2

And more incomers from the Netherlands with practices inimical to NZ have led to big problems. But there was a comment when a Fonterra CEO was pronounced and I think it was Spierings – that he was a very experienced commodities trader and would lead us away from widening product into NZ produced value-added product. Just concentrating on baby formula for the major Chinese market was still narrower than what we needed.

Ex-owner of stolen property "others" the victims and tells them what to do. Another day of white privilege in nz.

"[Te Kawerau a Maki kaumatua Te Warena] Taua, the head of the village, came up with an agreement, a compromise, and got a very good deal, and these other people have come out and put his decision and the housing under risk. It'd be a shame if they lost out," he said.

Bizarre that they think their view is relevant. Stuff realising they're getting clicks from Ihumātao stories and having to dig something up because things are quiet at the land.

I've gotta say, I'm no fan of Martyn Bradbury. The foam-flecked rants, the attacks on the "Woke Left" and the "Wellington Twitterati", the wails of "Identity Politics is splitting The Left!", the faint whiff of misogyny… You all know what I mean, right?

Nevertheless, his hearing today in the Human Rights Tribunal, where the Stasi Police argued to be able to present secret evidence in a closed court, has got to be worth a comment or two, right? Any thoughts?

    • SHG 9.1

Bomber is verboten and his opinions are thoughtcrime.

    • I checked out the hearing earlier today briefly, just to see if the so-called 4th Estate showed up. I did notice one on the stairway and Steven Franks lingering in the vicinity.

I imagine it might be discussed in depth on 'The Panel' sometime soon, unless of course Aljazeera or the BBC do a story – in which case they'll all be up for one

      • greywarshark 9.2.1

Sounds like Antigonish in reverse OWT. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antigonish_(poem)

        '"Yesterday, upon the stair,
        I met a man who wasn't there!'
A creepy poem for a creepy Gnashional Opposition and all RW.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWUWn6esJGA

        • OnceWasTim 9.2.1.1

Actually, funny you should refer to that. I did meet a member of the 4th Estate on the stairs. These days, remembering names is not my forte – numbers much easier. I think he was ekshully one of the genuine ones though I'd imagine when he got back to base, he'd have been confronted by the usual gatekeepers.

One thing I hadn't noticed before was the way Steven Franks walks (or rather struts).

Nose in the air, pin-striped strides emerging from underneath what looked like a sleeze's tranch coat, and arms swinging from side to side. Almost as though he's still a pumped up little peon s in the army. A Dad's Army at that but one that justifies a claim to have done his bit. ( We both live within a short distance of each other, btw – including the neighbourhood gossip and Uber driver intelligence ).

  10. mosa 10

With regards too Bomber Bradbury's hearing today i would be shocked if the MSM covered this after all they buried the Aquittal by the SFO with regards too Thompson and Clark.

That deserved closer scrutiny as does the police and their motive's in not releasing the evidence against Bradbury.

Why all the secrecy unless there is something or someone too hide.

    • OnceWasTim 10.1

I think one or two tried @ mosa. I suspect either it'll come after a decision, or if some paternalistic "I've paid my dues" type know-it-all editor decides it might be the perfect story for some cadet reporter to prove or bury themselves.
