Looking forward to King Charles image on our money. Not!

10 Atrocities Committed by the British Empire that They Would Like to Erase from History Books

    Larry Holzwarth – March 17, 2018

Of the 10 atrocities 8 were before he was born and all were before his balls dropped. Atrocities are as common as muck in history the USA, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain and the list goes on and on – hell I have little doubt there's plenty of nasty in New Zealand's history. Charles is just just a figurehead and a fairly mundane one at that .

Having being said I see no reason why any non New Zealander should be on our currency nor any particular reason why we should retain an overseas monarchy as our ceremonial figurehead.

I am happily in favour of a republic – but I see no reason to grant a President more than the ceremonial powers currently in use by our /cough monarchy

"….. I see no reason to grant a President more than the ceremonial powers currently in use by our /cough monarchy"

Why do we need a president?

        Shouldn't a PM be enough?

The Uffindell affair is far from over.

Luxon and co…are splitting semantic hairs…'the incident was not as reported in the media'.

National are in big trouble over this and it's not going away Luxon and National want to avoid another byelection at all cost's but this will cost them dearly and could be an opening for Winston Peters to come in through another byelection in Tauranga.Luxon and National have seriously miscalculated or have been misled.Uffidell campaigned on a get tough on youth crime saying youth should face tougher consequences but no consequences for him no consequences for National MP's.If Uffindell had any honour he would resign now,How many chances does Luxon give a second now 3rd now Luxon looks like a complete idiot defending the indefensible from the Party which is supposed to be tough on crime!

    • Barfly 2.2

I hope this farce haunts the National Party and continues to damage them.

  3. dv 4

I thought no right turn made a really salient comment.

But beyond the laughable process, this also says something rather disturbing about how much trust Luxon and National's senior leadership have in their own caucus – namely, none at all. And if they don't trust their MPs to read a report, how can they expect us to trust them to run the country?

Why does the caucus need to see the report? If I was being investigated at work, I would not expect the report to be widely circulated amongst my colleagues.

    • Ed1 7.1

If you were asked to vote on an issue (as the National caucus apparently was) do you think you should have been able to know something more than a decision by The Leader?

    • Tricledrown 7.2

Covering up serious allegations becomes worse than clearing the decks Uffindell admits serious bullying at high school but refuses to admit similar behaviour at University.Luxon has seriously miscalculated his options he now wishes he had sacked Uffindell and blamed the National Party for not vetting its candidates thoroughly.Given NZ has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the developed world .National has dug a very deep hole which it can only sack Uffindell like yesterday have another byelection is the only way back for Luxon who released the KC's whitewash on the day of the Queens funeral.Luxon is in serious trouble and could go the way of Collins ,Bridges, etc .Luxon's only option now is to sack Uffindell even having him charged for the offences he is alledged to have commited to show National are truly a party that's tough on Crime!

    • Drowsy M. Kram 7.3

Luxon's refusal to release the summary of Dew's report into allegations about Uffindell's past behaviour is revealing – imho it’s easier to trust politicians when they champion transparency.

Worst nightmare’: Labour staffer complainants respond to Dew report

Sexual assault allegations against ex-Labour staffer 'not established' [contains the eight-page executive summary of Dew's report]

The Uffindell affair will continue to dog National – until the next scandal.

The EU is calling for a War Crimes Tribunal to be held to investigate war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine.

The Russian Federation has already had one.

    Who knew?

…….The stated goal of the Tribunal is to “collect data and prove the commission of war crimes by the Kiev regime, discrimination against its own citizens, persecution on linguistic, national and ideological grounds.”

The Tribunal intends to provide this evidence to the Russian Investigative Committee, the International Criminal Court and to the public.

In a press conference with Russian state media on March 11th, the members of the Tribunal were unveiled.

The Tribunal is chaired by Maksim Grigoryev. Grigoryev is a member of the Russian Civic Chamber and Director of the Foundation for the Study of Democracy….

…..On April 18th Grigoryev gave his first public report on the work of the Tribunal, in which he claimed to have found copious evidence of Ukrainian war crimes, including linked to Nazi forces within the Ukrainian military. He emphasised that all of this evidence would be given to the Russian Investigative Committee and to the International Criminal Court.

On April 21st, the Tribunal’s work was also centre-stage at a conference of the Russian Civic Chamber entitled "Evidence of massive war crimes of the armed forces and national units of Ukraine in Mariupol.”

    https://www.info-res.org/post/explainer-russia-s-international-public-tribunal-on-ukraine

    • joe90 10.1

The Russian Federation has already had one.

Of course Russia would never get all it's ducks in a row as they prepare to propagate the narrative that any war crimes uncovered were committed by minorities.

Because real Russians, ethnic Russians, would never commit atrocities.

      /

“It seems that Ukraine was attacked not by Russia, but by Buryatia”

Head of the Free Buryatia Foundation Alexandra Garmazhapova talks about the truth and myths about the Buryats fighting in Ukraine

There is a stereotype that there are a lot of Buryats fighting in the ranks of the Russian army in Ukraine. Is it true? What is known about the involvement of servicemen from Buryatia in the events in Bucha? Why do the Buryats go to serve on a contract basis and how do the republic feel about the “denazification” of Ukraine? Alexandra Garmazhapova, a journalist and head of the Free Buryatia Foundation, answered these and other questions to Kholod.

      google translate

Buryats in Buchathe main myth of the war

After the first news from Bucha, we were stunned by the footage of civilians killed and destruction. The news about the “mass atrocities of the Buryats” was no less a shock to us, so we immediately set about clarifying the details and verifying data from open sources. It turned out that behind the high-profile headlines about "mass atrocities" and the involvement of the Buryats (or at least Asians) in them lies much less sensational content. Bucha is not the only place where war crimes were committed, but rumors of "Buryat atrocities" began from here.

So, in order. During the fighting in Bucha and the Russian occupation of the city that lasted about a month, several hundred civilians were killed. After the Russian occupation, 458 bodies were found, 419 of them with signs of torture or violent death. The first reports of the discovery of evidence of targeted massacres of civilians in Bucha appeared on 1 April.

Already on April 4, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published a list of servicemen of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade of the RF Armed Forces (Khabarovsk Territory), who were accused by the Ukrainian side of war crimes in Bucha.

Ukrainian volunteers from the InformNapalm community immediately established that this list is 4 years out of date, and it does not include many who participated in the 2022 invasion, and there are also those who retired from the army long ago. Subsequently, we independently confirmed this conclusion.

What is the link between Charles the 1st. and Putin the last.

    From Wikipedia

He [Charles] was charged with attempting to govern as an absolute monarch…

….with continuing the war after the defeat of his forces

….with conspiring after defeat to promote yet another continuation; and with encouraging his troops to kill prisoners of war.[2]
