Yep. I’ll never disagree with people protesting for what they believe in. Even if I think they’re wrong.

Raises the question many have been talking about since the LP conference: Are Goff and the rest of the “old guard” sincere in their change of heart?

He’s going to have to be genuine to pull this off because he’s a terrible actor. Goff is going to have to candidly say he was wrong, and explain what convninced him to change his mind. This could be a fantastic opportunity if done well. He needs to talk much more about the ‘What he believes in and WHY’ to win over voters. In ‘coming out’, he could cut Key and Crosby and Textor off at the pass when they pull the ‘Is this a cynical and insincere try-on?’ and ‘U-turn’ cards. If pushing those buttons repeatedly elicits convincing, and urgent reasons, they’ll soon change tack.

If the Goff and the front bench aren’t for real they’re f@#ked.

The acid test is coming soon. If Goff fails the Labour Party is going to have to abandon TINAL – the is no alternative leader – immediately to survive.

Refer link for article on why the rich must be taxed : 10 reasons: Even in America for God’s sake!
    http://www.commondreams.org/view/2010/10/20-1

US NeoLiberal failed society throws up some bizarre situations: !. Dry Drunk Bush has come out from skulking in his Crawford Ranch and said his failure from his Presi days was not privatizing Social Security!!! Not Invading Iraq and causing the premature deaths of over 1,000,000 innocent people and that he is a War Criminal who should be rubbing shoulders with Serb War Criminals in the Hague!
    2. Oprah did a piece the other day about her “fellow Americans” living in tent cities!! Maybe if the tax system was fairer she wouldn’t be a billionaire twice over! and those taxes would be assisting her “fellow Americans” in trouble to live in decent accommodation instead of under blue plastic tarps made in China where so many of their jobs have been exported to for greater profit for the crims in Wall Street!?

    • john 5.1

For example why Oprah has her obscene wealth while she pontificates to poor Americans:

“The ordinary workers pockets were “filled” with their pay; however the rich delved into their pockets and “diverted” the money into their own. “The top tax rate has gone from 90% in 1960, to 70% in 1972, to 50% in 1984 50, to 40% in 1996, to 35% in 2008. But much of billionaires’ earnings is subject to only a 15% tax because of a loophole that allows hedge fund income not to be called income.

“Furthermore, about 500 people a year renounce their U.S. citizenship and repatriate themselves to countries such as Belize and the Cayman Islands to avoid taxes entirely.”

The percentage of plebeian income paid into social welfare for the rich is the diversion.”

    LIBERTY! EQUALITY! FELLOWSHIP!

NON! TO SECTIONAL DOMINANCE INEQUALITY ALIENATION

The brave French are fighting for all working class people :The Government must represent All People ( Surely that is what Democracy is?) not just the wealthy, banker business class (That word NeoLiberalism again!). And the voice of ordinary people must be heard and respected. Refer link:
    http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article26670.htm

French continue refuse to pay for the debacle of the NeoLiberal bankers and the Politico-Snarky wealth worshipping stooges

Are the french fighting Waterloo again? Against the Anglo ideology originating in Chicago? Let’s hope they win.Refer link:

      “Vive la France!

The real rubbish are the men who perpetrated the fraud that caused the world economic system to collapse. These men on Wall Street, and those who took part around the world, and those who were complicit and didn’t speak up, should be held accountable. The French Unions are correct — “we the people” should NOT have to pay for their avarice or to subsidize their crimes.”

“you are so right about that. there is a good article about taking the Bank of America and other banks into receivership for the massive levels of fraud they have committed and are now doing again with the foreclosures. These scumbags are foreclosing on people’s homes based on fraud! what is happening in France should be happening here.

      Matt
harris county green party US ”

“God, you should see the Teabaggers crying on Yahoo forums about the French. The French have the kind of guts I only wish Americans had. The people would have been in the streets (ALL of the people) on December 12, 2000 if that had been the case. Instead, we sit in front of our big-screen teevees worshiping the crap on Fox and letting our country be run by outright thieves.”

“Kind of amusing that Americans love to ridicule the French for being pussies.

“When the French people are being ripped off by the oligarchy, they stand up and fight. When it happens to Americans, they curl their tails up between their legs and take their beating like the frightened dogs they are. And after quietly taking their beating by the upper class, they go back to calling the French a bunch of spineless punks.

      Home of the brave, indeed.”

“Forward together for a free France and free humanity from the iron grip of casino capitalism.

French workers are fighting for all of us.

Sarko is a liar. The deficit is essential to get rid of the hard times just as it was in the USA in the 1930s. Keep the deficit and get rid of the Sark’s booty– no balancing any budget on the backs of the working people. ”

“Nice to see that CommonDreams is not ignoring this important development.

The Anglo-Saxon media portrays the French as whiners, trouble-makers, cheese-eating surrender monkeys, socialists, communists, dangerous subversives.

One has to ask the rhetorical question: why?

In reality of course it takes GUTS to go out and take tear gas, beatings, loss of wages – for days on end. These workers are courageous and are fighting for the interests of working people. They are also quite intelligent, as they know exactly what is at stake and what is being done.

The Neo-Liberal IMF-style austerity measures are crashing down on all of us, these folks are heroes, despite what the Corporate Media Propaganda says. This is not just about raising the retirement age, that is just the tip of the iceberg.

There are some great comments here, and of course a few knee-jerk, Fox News style ones as well.

Workers must not be saddled with the costs to pay for the corruption of the international Bankster Mafia. The rentier parasites are getting away with paying nothing, and recieving massive subsidies at the expense of the public and workers. The crime of the century, and few are acting to stop it. The French workers are at least fighting back. Too bad we do not have international worker solidarity (or even class consciousness)

We don’t need to read Naomi Klein to know that this is part of the SHOCK DOCTRINE. Remember what happened in Argentina?

Vive les travailleurs de France et du monde!”

    Monopoly profits for banks

The banks argue they are rewarding their shareholders and just about everyone else through superannuation funds’ holdings of bank shares – and pay billions in tax each year. But the institute’s paper likens the $20 billion it calls “monopoly profits” to a $20 billion tax on the economy, hurting all Australians.

And they’re hurting us (NZ) as well.

Wool collectivizing to grow its business

But when contractors for the movies collectivize the right go ape shit.

Contractors are companies, how is wool, or milk, collectivization
good but in the movie industry its illegal according to the government?

The SCOTUS declares businesses have rights! It seems all businesses
    are not treated equally.

Is this the new civil rights cause of the 21st Century?

Reading the news story about the early deaths for LWE and apparently Paula Rose has reduced the ‘over the limit’ allowance from 10k to 4k. Funny really because I gather that reducing speed limits leads to more accidents rather than reducing them .. according to a British Chief Constable.
I know after driving at 70<75mph the feeling of relaxation on reducing speed to say 50mph and suspect it can lead to lack of attention in controlling the killing machines we call cars.

    • Carol 9.1

The reason for lowering speed limits isn’t so much because speed CAUSES accidents. The reason is that, if you have an accident at speed there is more likely to be severe damage, especially to human bodies.

      • jcuknz 9.1.1

Lets go back to men, or women in this age, walking in front of cars with red flags. Zero accident perhaps.
