It was interesting this morning to hear Ron Mark eulogising Shan-le Kearns.

By any definition Kearns was radicalized. I don't expect anything else to come of it.

However this may be an another example belonging same area as the calls for banning SM and the concern over the Run it Straight phenomenon.

Run It Straight is just Rugby League.

      It ain't Ukraine.

This is what Run It Straight reminds me of:

At least musk oxen are built for it. Humans aren’t.

40 something shear at work yesterday is just coming back from a broken collar bone from run it straight! Hospitals must love boys being boys.

Just ban it, and while we are at it get rid of MMA, cage fighting and boxing as well. Watching largely disadvantaged people fight each other like animals for the entertainment of the most vulgar elements of the lumpenproletariat and assorted sadists and profiteers from the ruling classes should be something enlightened socialists long ago left behind with the likes of child labour and slavery.

Watching largely disadvantaged people fight each other like animals…

Yes, but if we ban things based on this principle, where does it stop? Wouldn't that sentence be a fairly accurate description of the labour market in an environment of austerity where governments engineer high unemployment?

          • weka 3.1.2.1.1

the argument is more the damage it does to society. There should be a limit somewhere, like we do for things like drink driving or smoking. Yes you can get really pissed (don't get in a car), you can smoke (not around other people). If you want to pit your mighty testosterone against other men, play rugby or any number of other sports that give the thrill.

Otoh, I'd still like to see the figures on deaths and injuries per capital, or hours spent, for other high risk sports.

Just ban it, and while we are at it get rid of MMA, cage fighting and boxing…

yes I recall playing bull rush at school, but the appeal MMA et al. eludes me now.

In this example, a sports 'journalist' injects a little ‘MMA mongrel’ into their reporting of netball, originally conceived as a non-contact sport.

… the Aussies were blown away.

          Bodies hit the deck repeatedly…

I was thinking it's more like bullrush on steroids. We played mixed sex bullrush at intermediate, but puberty puts and end to that (dudes moved on to drunk driving and fist fights).

League at least has some rules and penalties to try and prevent the more serious injuries.

How was he radicalized, he obviously has a warrior gene in him and saw an opportunity to live it out, and fuck putin he's the aggressor in the latest round of idiot nations/tribes attacking their naighbours

it doesn't say, but did he join the Ukraine army?

      • gsays 3.3.1

I can't say for sure, I didn't hear Ron Mark mention it.

I would assume so. I doubt he was there in a paid mercenary role, that's normally for those with relevant experience.

Cookers who think Fauci caused COVID by funding the study of bat disease in a top end biosafety facility want to import 400 ostriches with bird flu so they can live on Dr. Oz's ranch.

    //

    .

What do the U.S. health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the celebrity physician Mehmet Oz and some Canadian animal lovers have in common?

They all want to save a flock of 400 ostriches on a British Columbia farm.

But there’s a catch. The birds were in contact with a deadly virus: the avian flu.

Canada ordered the birds to be culled after avian flu spread through Universal Ostrich Farms in Edgewood, British Columbia, a town in the province’s interior, north of Washington State.

    […]

Mr. Kennedy last week urged the Canadian authorities not to kill the ostriches but to do further testing to try to better understand the virus.

    […]

Dr. Oz, who oversees Medicare and Medicaid for the Trump administration, offered to relocate the doomed birds to his 900-acre ranch in Florida.

When cookers are running the shop.

      .

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says his “Make America Healthy Again” Commission report harnesses “gold-standard” science, citing more than 500 studies and other sources to back up its claims. Those citations, though, are rife with errors, from broken links to misstated conclusions.

Seven of the cited sources don’t appear to exist at all.

Epidemiologist Katherine Keyes is listed in the MAHA report as the first author of a study on anxiety in adolescents. When NOTUS reached out to her this week, she was surprised to hear of the citation. She does study mental health and substance use, she said. But she didn’t write the paper listed.

“The paper cited is not a real paper that I or my colleagues were involved with,” Keyes told NOTUS via email. “We’ve certainly done research on this topic, but did not publish a paper in JAMA Pediatrics on this topic with that co-author group, or with that title.”

And the world ignores the plight of the women and girls who disappear into these gulags because sports.

    /

While Saudi Arabia celebrates being awarded the Fifa men’s World Cup and meticulously promotes itself on the global stage as reformed, women who have dared to publicly call for more rights and freedoms have faced house arrest, jail and exile. Activists say the country’s care homes are one of the regime’s lesser-known tools for controlling and punishing women, and want them to be abolished.

    […]

Yahia, who is now 38 and lives in exile, says her parents had threatened to send her to Dar al-Reaya since she was 13. “My father used it as a threat if I didn’t obey his sexual abuse,” she says, adding that girls and women may face the horrifying dilemma of deciding between Dar al-Reaya and staying in an abusive home.

“They make it impossible for others to help women fleeing abuse. I know a woman who was sentenced to six months in jail because she helped a victim of violence. Giving shelter in the case of a woman charged for ‘absenteeism’ is a crime in Saudi Arabia.

“If you are sexually abused or get pregnant by your brother or father you are the one sent to Dar al-Reaya to protect the family’s reputation,” she says.

Interesting. The deputy prime minister calls Eru Kapa-Kingi "primitive".

This, after calling his mother Mariameno Kapa-Kingi "an idiot" in parliament, which is against the rules.

Of course he was allowed to deny it by the f**king useless, Maureen Pugh.

For the deputy prime minister rules apply to everyone else but him.

I also get the feeling government polling is terrible after the recent attacks on women, workers, and people saving for retirement because daily are the attacks on Hipkins and Labour heavily associating the with the Greens and the Maori Party.

It's duck shooting season, and as any wise duck knows – if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck – it probably won't be a duck.

I read somewhere today that the Superannuants Electricity payment was being raised to $90. Can't find that anywhere. Anyone able to confirm the change?

    Sorry, wrong article.

This one touted the doubling of the energy payment.
