A manager schmoozing with alcohol.
IMO its (sadly) all too common, however this is a Senior Manager at NZ's Health Ministry.
And also as per usual (in my Life experience) the wagons were circled and defences put up…
And TBH..you would think ! Thankyou Dr Mills….
I am dumbfounded that Manager Ross Bell would think any of this..was ok?
Thank fuck for whistleblowers!
We already have "capital flight". The skilled and useful people who are leaving, because the Coalition of Cockups has destroyed their future in new Zealand.
It appears most of the wealthy "investing" in NZ are simply playing speculative games with tax free capital gains on existing assets. If they sell up and leave, land values may drop to the extent that families could again afford to buy farms and land for businesses and houses. Instead of paying fortunes to bankers.
They would be no loss.
There's plenty of unskilled and possibly not so useful people (highly subjective) who want to bail too, but we're trapped.
I've never been more envious of those who can pack up and leave.
There is a fair chunk of traffic running through the site at present on the mobile interface. Looks like the post on superannuation at age 67 got caught in a google search discovery, mostly on android and virtually all in NZ. It doesn't look to be a popular move for National.
It is why the site has been slow yesterday and this morning. The mobile theme doesn't cache as much as the usual site for historical reasons. So in memory file caching on the server side tends to be harder on the server.
I have done some work to reduce the impacts overnight and this morning. And it does seem to be slowing down now.
Last thing is to pop in some spare RAM to provide more space for the server to handle more people at the same time. Fortunately, I just upgraded another DDR4 server and so have some RAM to slip in as soon as the deluge reduces further. Probably tonight.
I spoke too soon about it slowing down, it promptly doubled. But no particular hassles.
Running at about 5x usual number of readers for this time of day, 80% on androids using the mobile version.
Anyway, back to the paid work and the awaiting bug I’m trying to crush. And the Aussie tester looking for anything else I missed (sweet silence in chat).
Not so much slow as not accessible at all yesterday morning. This must have been the reason. Thanks for the explanation LP.
I missed a txt from incognito, then got alerted by a email for an external monitor programmer late afternoon.
Didn't realise that it was quite so bad.

The Trump administration has agreed to release from prison a three-time felon who drunkenly fired shots in a Texas community and spare him from deportation in exchange for his cooperation in the federal prosecution of Kilmar Abrego García, according to a review of court records and official testimony.
Jose Ramon Hernandez Reyes, 38, has been convicted of smuggling migrants and illegally reentering the United States after having been deported. He also pleaded guilty to “deadly conduct” in the Texas incident, and is now the government’s star witness in its case against Abrego

So Kinleith has closed.
NZ, with all these pine trees, no longer produces paper. None.
What a fricking stupid country we live in.
What happens when you sell out to foreign interests. The clue is in the term. Their interests are foreign – nothing to do with ours.
I agree Feijoa. We are stupid. So, overseas owners sell their forest products (logs) to themselves, and export their profit along with their carbon credits? NZ land is a surrogate.
