Pigs, kiwis… and a king!

From SAFE:

Join Mike King, one of New Zealand’s leading comedians and pig campaigners, launch an exciting new pig-friendly initiative to help end pig suffering in New Zealand.

Mike King has become the country’s most notable ambassador against pig crates. Hear how he went from the ‘King of Pork’ to a champion for pigs.

Hosted by radio presenter Joe Cotton, award-winning actor Robyn Malcolm, Auckland mayor Hon John Banks plus other special guests will join Mike in a stand against pig cruelty. Music performed by Flip Grater.

Joining the stars will be SAFE’s campaign director Hans Kriek to explain how you can support the campaign to see an end to cruel pig crates, and pig rescuer Carolyn Press-McKenzie will reveal how Piggy Sue is enjoying her new life at her animal sanctuary.

An art auction will offer original drawings from the country’s top satirical cartoonists, including Tom Scott, Al Nesbit and Rod Emmerson, all of whom have donated works produced in recent weeks related to pigs.

7PM, 23 JUNE 2009. THE EVENTS CENTRE, AUCKLAND MUSEUM. TICKETS $25 (includes wine, decadent catered canapés and a pig rescue action pack)

I hear that 80% of the tickets have already been sold, so if you want to come, book now. And please don’t be put off by John Banks, he may be a moron on most things, but he’s on the right side of the animal welfare debate!
