Last week John Key was calling on the government to force Rickards to go – interfer in an onoing employment matter and essentially require the payout of a large golden-handshake. At the time the PM refered to his comments as “reckless”.
PRESENTER: Alright, what would you be doing right now, if you were the Prime Minister? In, this situation, what would you be doing right now?
KEY: Well you have to find the way out, and inevitably there’s probably going to be a cost in that.
PRESENTER: Should the Government be involved in this?
KEY: Well the Government is effectively involved because his employer is the Police force, which is part… you know, a Government department.
Today, the Dom reports that Rickards has been charged with alleged misconduct. If he’s found guilty under any of the charges he can be legally sacked.
