I completely understand that. Labour and the Greens do need each other and will have to negotiate. My point is, given Hipkins has categorically ruled out implementing wealth and capital gains taxes whilst he is PM. How can he possibly change that position ...
Good point Weka! https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/493596/hipkins-rules-out-capital-gains-tax-wealth-tax-if-labour-re-elected#:~:text=Chris%20Hipkins%20has%20ruled%20out,gains%20tax%20after%20the%20election.
Again the Greens are using wealth taxes to pay for another one of their policies. Please tell me how they achieve this, given the following statement from PM Hipkins. "I'm confirming today that under a government I lead there will be no wealth or capital ...
Roughly half of what Labour is intending to spend, just in Auckland... Attacking National on their RONS spending is almost irrelevant given this governments own recently announced spending plans. It is understandable why the Greens have hammered Labour on ...
The Greens can't spoil NACTs party, Winston can. And given Winston's history, I think he will.
Disastrous poll for the left today. I hope the tide turns and we can get back on track and win in October, but it isn't looking great, especially with a very meek and mild Hipkins. Ruling out wealth and a CGT although unpopular, is imo a big error. People ...
This government was heading to be a one term government before Covid-19 saved them. They then benefitted massively from the rally around the flag effect in 2020 and a push from center right voters to keep the Greens out. Take that historic period out of ...
It is also from the polling I have seen, overwhelmingly disliked by the NZ public, as is co-governance. But sure keep on plowing ahead with it and wonder how we lost the election after the fact... https://www.1news.co.nz/2022/01/29/poll-more-voters-against...
Te Pāti Māori and the Greens wealth and capital gains taxes are pointless unless they plan to govern alone. What are they, many on this site and in the wider public not understanding when PM Hipkins said "there will be no wealth or capital gains taxes ...
I was able to watch it, no issues?
A portion of the 15% may be passed on in the short term, but I don't expect that to last. There are many ways around this for vendors. Like you, I would prefer a more targeted approach that is easily measured and removes the compliance aspect of this ...
"Redistribution" Is reviled by both National and Labour as I believe they have seen the polling on it which imo kiwis overwhelmingly do not support. We are not a generous people, many of us are selfish and hate the idea of someone reaching into our pockets...
Is the purpose of this currently "hypothetical policy" to save kiwis money? Or is there other benefits I'm not seeing. Because if it's simply about cost, I'd argue there are far more targeted ways to benefit those who have financial challenges. I don't ...
There are so many varied ways supermarkets and other vendors could get around this. How can you with certain, say that these outlets are not "rigging the system"? It would be nigh on impossible to prove.
Personally I think it is a stupid policy that will be hard to implement and even harder to ensure compliance. But Hipkins also recently said this. https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2023/04/prime-minister-chris-hipkins-rules-out-cutting-gst-from-fresh...
Labour won't be reversing their position on a wealth tax whilst Hipkins is PM. He has ruled it out. To reverse that would make his position untenable, the media and public would hammer him. It's not happening, wake up to reality.
How can the Greens keep talking about wealth taxes when Chris Hipkins has ruled this out whilst he is PM? Are they planning to be able to form a government without Labour? Or are they planning for Labour to win the election and then Hipkins stands down? ...
It's corruption, you can't get away from that. I like Stuart, but you just can't tolerate, betraying your colleagues and the public.
This should not be framed as a battle between the left and right. There are people from both sides in both camps. This is fundamentally about women's rights and trans right, we must be better than turning this into something it isn't.
Today's events have turned more people against the trans movement than Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull ever could. The absolute irony in that. Violence is never okay, to see so many of my friends gloat and praise this behavior today, is frankly appalling. Women ...
"Natz = Climate F**kers" Yes, Labour and their various partners have been outstanding environmental protectors over the past six years eh... This is the issue with many on the left. You are so worried about a potential NACT coalition. That you don't see ...
Why does it have to be E-bikes? How about just regular old bicycles? They're far cheaper, will last longer and are better for your overall health.
Robs just been sacked.
Not everyone was enamored by the PM. That's just the reality of life that we must accept. Others have different views.
Settle down Ian, don't take things so personally. She was a leader of a political party not some deity.
Corey is allowed his views, I share many of them. Don't be so hateful.
Correct.
So we can take a CGT to the election now right? I won't miss PM Ardern, I appreciate the sacrifice she has made but I personally believe she has been a disaster for the left and the Labour movement as a whole.
The Greens won't get a CGT whilst Ardern is PM, no matter the make-up of the next government. Jacinda has ruled it out whilst leader.
Exactly.
