Cheers Robert! Some very smiley people were seen in the vicinity on the day.

In Christchurch we had some great news on Friday morning - the minister Megan Woods has approved the plan for the Otakaro-Avon red zone. This area is about 600 hectares and over 1/2 of this will be the 'Green Spine' which runs along each side of the river....
It's so they can maximise the weight over the grass growing season before being sent to the works.
I quite liked it when it was in Christchurch. It moved a couple of times and seemed to me to be a playful piece. There were and are quite a few pieces of public art on walls of damaged buildings (and new buildings) and in open areas where buildings once ...
I first heard them playing the William Tell overture ... I laughed so hard I cried. I think it is a requirement that you have never played whatever instrument you are playing before but that you give it your best shot. They have a sprinkling of people who ...
You should probably change the headline Micky.
I found this a useful website when checking to see if I needed to update my vaccinations for measles. https://www.immune.org.nz/hot-topic/measles-overseas-and-new-zealand There is a fact sheet "measles" under the "other resources" heading.
One of my scientist acquaintances says of this story, words to the effect that ... no it's not new knowledge, can't believe it's a news story. It's still a good piece though and "news" to many!
Get it covered with vegetation that is fast growing - depending on what you want it to be in the future you could plants few patches up in natives of a select few species planted close together to hasten canopy closure. Grass is probably good in the ...
Most tradies who are on tools actually use a van rather than a ute which is usually driven by the boss or foreman. So says me - an ex-tradie, now driving a desk. It will be a while before charging issues can be sorted on a practical level and for work ...
Why would DOC pay rates? Do the police pay rates for their Westland area? Why should payment for the clean up of the council's dump come out of the DOC budget? DOC was gutted several times over in the last 20 years so if you want the general NZ taxpayer to...
DOC don't own the land so don't pay rates although I would guess that they do pay rates for their buildings in town. Rubbish is a council responsibility and rubbish is created by the residents, visitors and tourists - not by DOC who would be taking care of...

Greywarshark - there is a draft plan that was the result of much work and decent public consultation that was produced by Regenerate Christchurch. This plan is now with the minister for Greater Christchurch Regeneration Megan Woods for either approval or ...
... and wetland! ... and peatland (great carbon sink).
This was mooted for the red zone in Christchurch but was rejected for the same reasons the land was red zoned - as the area is prone to major earthquake damage and flooding (can't have bodies popping up I guess). Still aiming for a forest though!
As my old boss used to say "every day is arbor day".
The observatory at Mt John is awesome, as is Tekapo and the Dark Sky Park. I have been twice and it is one of the best things I have experienced in my life - the night sky is something most of us in the "first world" have lost. I'll be visiting this new ...
Please don't drop it. I always have a read even though I rarely comment. It is something I look forward to on the Standard after a busy weekend and wotnot.
In the 80s hacking meant going for a casual ride on a horse or chopping up something with a large heavy blade or axe.
Sorry don't know what happened there ... meant to be a reply to Greywarshark at 1.3.1.1.1.1 or thereabouts about Sabine wanting to know a good bamboo.
http://www.bamboo.org.nz/ NZ bamboo society link. Just need to do a little bit of googling and check that whatever species you are thinking of doesn't "run" in your local microclimate/conditions.

Don't think he signed his query "tractor driver" when he sent it to the general DOC site. There is likely to be a lag especially these days when dealing using a general public channel with any organisation, especially any under-resourced government ...
Sounds good Robert. I'm just starting to learn some of the easier fungi - it is incredibly enjoyable (and edibly enjoyable).
Thanks Robert, good spotting on my name and yes I do love a good sand dune đ. I am aware of the book you mention and haven't read it yet but can confess to being sceptical about it's thesis. In the past I have found people who think 'weeds' are just badly ...
I know I am late to this thread but I am usually out and about on Sunday. Stuart Munroe - if by nativist purists you mean people that advocate for native NZ flora and fauna then one of the greatest threats to our unique flora (80% or so is endemic) is ...
Plus there was a high terror alert.
Cats, with their independent spirit and beguiling purrs, have captured the hearts of humans for millennia. In New Zealand, felines are no exception, boasting the highest national cat ownership rate globally [definition cat nz cat foundation].
