I think you'll probably find it was the Governor General Jerry Mateparae, not the Attorney General. Hansard has Chris Finlayson in the house the day before the opening ceremony, and his expenses for the three months covering the Olympic period was a mere $...
George Wyndham, you appear to know little about the Waitemata district. Firstly the DC is based at the district headquarters in Mairangi Bay, not Takapuna. Secondly, Avondale is part of the Auckland Central district, which obviously has different ...
Karol, your 4.27 - "But it has been referred to the privileges committee. Is not a good look for Collins, even if it doesn’t cause her to be ousted from cabinet." It hasn't been referred to the Privileges Committee. Peters wants the Speaker to but there's ...
I don't believe Collins is required to declare a pecuniary interest - (2) The information referred to in subclause (1)(a) does not have to be included in the return if the travel costs or accommodation costs (as the case may be) were paid by the following ...
"It will be very difficult to change the government if that figure dips below into the 5.5% unemployed range." The government changed in 2008 when the rate was 4.2%.
91.8% against - the result of last referendum into compulsory retirement savings.
Yet the number one research institute has no problem with a small sample group. And you assume any opposition to dope means I'm on the sauce? Well, as it turns out even a broken clock... However, abstaining from alcohol does tend to increase one's risk of ...
The underlying comparison is with GFC defaults, however neither NZ nor Aus has a sub-prime lending market. Also, inflation is benign meaning interest rates will rise slowly, allowing any bubble to gradually deflate. Of course there will be casualties who ...
Hey, you left out - Prof Nutt, who was sacked as a government drugs adviser for his views You know when Harvard Medical School attaches its name to a report that it carries some weight. It is currently ranked the #1 research medical school in the United ...
Broken link http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/10768847/Even-casual-use-of-cannabis-alters-brain-warn-scientists.html
Harvard Medical School researchers think otherwise in new study - Even casual use of cannabis alters brain, warn scientists For too long cannabis has been seen as a safe drug, but as this study suggests, it can have a really serious impact on your mental ...
In relation to National's support it looks like they're just back to where they were in late Feb/early March (48 & 48.5). Just had a look at Roy Morgan specifically. In 2012 National averaged 45.5% in all RM polls, 44.4% in 2013 and so far this year it's ...
"An estimate that I saw had the costs well in excess of $11 million" Laughable. Final cost for Charles and Camilla's 6 day tour in 2012 came in at $766k, so $1.2m for the 10 days will be about right. And the Air Force 757 will fly them no more than 5,000km...
Labour losing some influential South Auckland PI voters? http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/9891929/Clergy-switch-from-Labour-to-National
And there are others, such as this from the US National Institute of Health, who reviews the various studies (Nevin, Reyes, etc). "...the evidence is not sufficient to conclude that variations in environmental lead exposure in childhood over the past 50 or...
Bagging the workforce when they still need to sell into the market would never fly from a PR standpoint.
You need to look at what the costs of manufacturing are. Hint; wages are part of that picture, but not the dominant factor. Well actually labour costs are the dominant factor in being competitive - Holden said that $2000 of its $3750 cost penalty for ...

In reply to TRP (no reply button, is there a limit to replies in sub-threads?) The difference is the unions would not budge in an attempt to keep their industry afloat. Any savings had to be found elsewhere even though workers were "paid allowances so ...
Toyota disputed the suggestion of Joe Hockey that they had ever blamed their workers’ pay and entitlements, however it was no secret the company was negotiating with the unions over conditions in an effort to save approx $3800 per car. There was a variety ...
lprent: You have asserted a fact about Cunliffes support amongst Labour voters. As far as I'm aware there is no such survey. Provide a link to support the claim. I believe the poster was deducing Cunliffe's support amongst Labour voters from the DigiPoll,...
Yeah, sure anything’s possible. Just like MH370 might be stuck on my roof. However I don’t think Cunliffe is the sort of personality many voters are attracted to. Only a third of Labour’s own supporters want him as PM, and they still have a fifth column in...
I'll concede it was 53.1%, however a year out from 2011 it was also 53%. A year prior to the next election the average was 43.9, so a 6% increase is clearly showing significant momentum.
The poll average of Colmar Brunton (50%), Roy Morgan (49.5) and DigiPoll (50.9) immediately prior to the 2011 election was 50.1%, which is exactly the same as the 3 polls this month (CB 51, RM 48.5, DP 50.8 = 50.1). Maybe it is time to give up.
IMO Goff was, and still is, the most competent leader Labour has. Sure he may have lost 2011 but he would have won this year.
So two-thirds of voters now prefer Key? The more babies he eats the more popular he becomes.
Cunliffe reacts to Key's third term triumph.
"Well mostly because of much smaller tax revenues than previously estimated." Perhaps it was less than forecast, although tax revenue was actually $2.37b or 4.9% higher than the same 7 month period last year. Pretty healthy growth.
Who said back in August 2012 "this National Government is selling New Zealand pound by pound, hectare by hectare, and there will be nothing left." That's right, and here he is helping his rich, foreign mate buy 19 hectares of prime coastal property. And he...
"Outside of those members who has a problem with Cunnliffe." Umm..more than four out of five of us. Oh, and cats that look life Cunliffe. They're mortified.
Germany has a much higher percentage of 65+ aged households living in poverty than NZ. In fact according to this OECD report NZ has the lowest percentage of its aged population in poverty
Cats, with their independent spirit and beguiling purrs, have captured the hearts of humans for millennia. In New Zealand, felines are no exception, boasting the highest national cat ownership rate globally [definition cat nz cat foundation]. An estimated 1.134 million pet cats grace Kiwi households, compared to 683,000 dogs ...
