Very sad news today with news of Fa'anana Efeso Collins' untimely death. He was a unique character, larger than life, one of the best orators I have ever seen and dedicated to his family and community. Rather than attempt to describe him his maiden speech…

Yesterday it was announced that Grant Robertson was leaving politics. The announcement was not surprising. His going list only was a strong indication that he may not be around for long, particularly if Labour lost the election. The announcement was met …

So what does National do when its minor support party tries to steal media attention with dog whistling racism? It reverts to some good old beneficiary bashing. And it has engaged in some selective interpretation of data in doing so. From Radio New …

The presentation of the latest One News poll suggested that it was all good for the right and bad for the left. I guess I will not surprise you to say I thought the poll was actually pretty good for the Left. Sure Chis Hipkins took a hit but this is MMP. …

My argument is that we need to agree what the Treaty says or it will cause more and more division. But this gives you a veto to exclude water when it is abundantly clear that it should be included.
Article 2 doesn't mention water. So when article 2 mentions Taonga or treasures it did not include water which even then was probably the most important Taonga? And fisheries are included but not water? Please try harder. Much harder.
If you look after Southland I will do my best to look after Tamaki Makaurau!
"Nanaia Mahuta should never have claimed that Maori involvement was a Treaty requirement. And that she had this advice from Crown Law." Even National acknowledges Iwi rights to and interests in water. Of course this is a treaty issue. Explain to me after ...

Well call me surprised. National has reversed Labour's tightening of rules around lobbyists and have given four lobbyists Parliamentary swipe cards. And refused to say who they are. In April of last year then Prime Minister Chris Hipkins announced the …

I found yesterday's post Cabinet press conference quite jarring. Clearly National was still smarting about criticism about the way it was handling Treaty issues. So it did what National Governments have done since time immemorial, it played the law and …
Have you actually read the Treaty or any of the historical analyses of it? And here is something for you to read about Atlas - https://thestandard.org.nz/atlas-smirked/
What do you think about Atlas funding the Taxpayer's Union?
Kia ora. That was written in anger and in fear. This could be a rough time.
I was at Hoani Waititi Marae. The unity behind the treaty was palpable.

Semantics. Each year cigarettes will be cheaper than they otherwise would be. There may be a "commitment" to meeting the smoke free goals but as with climate change there will be absolutely no means of meeting the goals.
